Nice hotel

Stayed there for 4 nights in early March. Had a large, nicely furnished room right near the marina. Was nice to be able to walk right out my door to the dive boat. Each room also has a balcony or patio. Ours was right near the hot tub. They have 2 pools, one is heated and a hot tub in a courtyard between the 2 buildings. I only ate breakfast at the hotel, it was very good. They also sell tickets for various tours at the hotel.
Key Largo doesn't get the lime light like it's big sister Key West

We flew into Miami on Sunday and drove to Key Largo. The drive was very nice. We stayed at the Holiday Inn. The hotel was a plus. We were not disapointed one bit. Their landscape around the pool area was beautiful. I do believe we may have been diapointed had we not throughly researched this destination. Number one fact that it is not white sandy beaches, like you picture Florida to be. When looking for a post card that had Key Largo instead of the Keys or Key West on it I commented they were rare. The clerks reply was they don't get the publicity that Key West does. I researched everything for months before the trip. We snorkeled with the Keys Divers. I can't remember the captains name. But the other guy was Reed. They were very nice and we loved the tour. We would recommend them and hope to go again. Key Largo is a quiter place. We went to John Pennekamp state park. And walked the trails. We did not take the time to use the beaches. Which we regretted. We drove down to Marathon one day and went to the nature museum and bird sant. It was a nice little place. We also checked out sembrero (sp) beach. The next day we drove to Key West. It is very crowded and a very busy place. The southern most point marker was neat. And I was impressed that people acually formed a line and took turns taking pictures. It was amazing. Two things we did not get to do that we will try next time. Taking an airboat tour through the everglades. And maybe stay a day or two in Key West because we sure didn't get any feel for it in 5 hrs. In Key Largo we ran into a couple guys who had just returned from a deep sea fishing tour. Their guide was cleaning their fish at the dock. They thought we should try fishing and seemed high on life. We didn't bother telling them we are not the fishing type. The Keys were a neat experiance. It seems to really be geared for boating type people. There doesn't seem to be much public waterfront land to enjoy. But it is beautiful and at least worth checking out. Exspecially if you want to try snorkeling. There are plenty of restraunts to try. And of course lots of seafood to eat. And the end of April weather was WONDERFUL.

We stayed a Saturday night and paid $119 + tax from their website. Definately one of the nicer hotels for the money. The pool areas are great! We prefer the smaller Keys motels usually, this was a nice change.
