Nice, close to everything... fun!
My wife and I just returned from our trip a few days ago. We decided to stay at the Marina Del Mar solely through a recommendation of friends we met in Key Largo last year. The hotel is nice and situated right along the Marina. The rooms are clean, but dated and unfortunately, the view from our room (3rd story) of the marina was cut off by blinded windows and foliage. The lower levels and pool area allow much better views and it's neat to watch all the different types of boats coming in and out of the marina.
Still, if you're looking for entertainment while in Key Largo, I would recommend it. The hotel offers a nice pool area with a small hot tub and is situated between two bars - Coconuts and Sharkey's - which offer live entertainment, decent menus and beautiful views of the Marina. And it is just a short walk down the pier to sign-up for all sorts of exciting water activities, such as: fishing, casino boats, snorkeling, etc. A continental breakfast is also provided.
A great dinner suggestion while you are in Key Largo is the Sunset Bar & Grille, located about a mile down US1 - bayside. Great menu and outstanding views of the sunset over the Gulf. Strongly recommend making dinner reservations as it is small. Definitely the highlight of our day in Key Largo.

Simple but good...
We arrived here and got the two most friendly desk clerks we ever had. They told about the area and the hotel without us asking for it.
After a short talk they also upgraded our room to king size without any charge...
These people really know had to make you feel welcome.
Unique Quality: Ok don't expect a real romantic room, the roomsize is very good. No carpet on the floor, instead of that it is tiled. If you think about the fact that you are in a diving capitol it's a smart choose. If they would have choosen carpet it would probably would look smudgy in a short time. The window view isn't great, large blinds take away most of the view open or not. But all in all the rooms are clean, bed is good, they have a great self made beach front which is wonderfull to have breakfast.

Overnight in Key Largo
Husband and I will be flying into Miami in October. Have a day before we check into our place in Key West and thought about spending the night in Key Largo. Does this make sense? I'd like to see a little sun before we make the LONG drive to KW. Any ideas on where to stay? I want a nice place with a restaurant and pool convenient.
