Very inviting after 4 hours on U.S. 1 by Cruefan I stayed at the Blue Parrot Inn on March 1st thru 3rd 2004. To be truthful I had some worries after reading a couple of horror show reveiws on another website, but after staying there I realized that they weren't accurate in my opinion. Our room(s) were clean and comfortable. I say that because we had to get two seperate rooms in order to get the days we wanted. We stayed in the Egyptian room the 1st night and the Caribbean Room the 2nd night. Moving rooms went very smoothly, and in fact the front desk let us move into the new room early and even brought the keys up to our room. Just like any hotel/motel in the world the pictures of the rooms on the website dont exactly look like the actual room. But I assure you I was very satisfied with our rooms and service, and I would recommend this place to freinds, family, and people who visit this website. The only thing about my stay that was a negative was the free breakfast. It's not a sit down breakfast. It consists of just coffee, muffins, toast, juice, and quiche. It's nothing special so if you want a hearty breakfast walk 2 blocks to the corner of Truman and Duval and go to Denny's. In closing the Blue Parrot Inn gets a thumbs up because of it's value and location. There is no onsite parking, and all of Elizabeth Str is for residents only. For $ 5.00 a day you can park in the parking lot of St. Mary's church across the Str. The front desk will give you a pass that you keep in the front window of your car. You pay the front desk when you check out. This was fine with us because we walked everywhere anyway.
What my wife and I loved about our stay was the wrap around porch we had outside our room. There were chairs and a table outside our room, and it was nice sitting out on the porch with the warm breeze. Though the pool is small, at night there is a relaxing atmosphere around the pool deck. There are white lights strung about the area, and it's a nice place to sit and relax. The whole property is also private because of all the trees surrounding the property. Avoid this hotel. by tpangelinan Ok people, you may have noticed we RARELY BAD MOUTH ANY BUSINESS. I am thinking about one out of 100 of our tips are negative. Usually, if we don't have anything to say, we shut up. Well, I read a lot of bad reviews on the internet, but decided to book this hotel anyway due to its location, and the pictures on the internet. I had heard the worst part was that even though you book a very pricy oceanfront room, they stick you a couple of streets over with no ocean view in another building. I booked directly with the hotel on the phone, and expressed my non willingness to be juggled to another site. OK, they said. We were to stay there the last two nights of our trip.
So the night before checking in, we stopped by, and this little rude, hip shaking, wrist flopping, mean dude behind the desk says he's putting us....you guessed it, a couple streets over in the back there...uh uh, not us. We said no, and he started yelling at us and told us he was going to call the cops?! Huh? We left, went back to the Blue Marlin and stayed a couple of x-tra days due to the nice place, cheap prices, and proximity to everything you need or want to do. I really wanted to stay there but...oh yea, do you see a beach in this photo? That's right, no beach. Like most of us on VT, we like to find unique places to stay when on holiday. Surfing the 'net in advance of our trip, I came across the website of Center Court historic properties in Key West. These folks have a large selection of cottages and house in and around the historic center of Key West. The website is highly funtional, offering you an easy opportunity to tour the properties via slideshow, and to view the up-to-date availability for your planned holiday dates. Basically, you're getting a cottage with Center Court. We chose the Leeward Isle, mostly because of its size, private parking and location. These are generally NOT bed and breakfast accomodations, no morning meal happens. But, they usually have nicely appointed little kitchens, and a dependable daily maid service. And for the most part, you get the desired double with Key West accomodations, at least for us older folks. Great location and yet reasonably quiet, the neighbors and their motorcycles not withstanding. Some of the cottages have private pools, others have outdoor hot tubs and access to Center-Court owned pools, usually with a few hundred feet of the place. FWIW, an outdoor hot tub in June will be the last thing you'd want to do. You'd probably enjoy that more when the winter cold comes in January. That's a joke. ;)
The cottage is a historic "shotgun" style dwelling, which I suppose means that it "shoots" out toward the street in a staight line. The lots for all of these type of houses are long, skinny rectangles, with minimum street front presence. Again, one nice thing for us is that the Leeward Isle cottage had a private, off-road parking lane...and parking can be dicey in Key West. I notice one downtown parking meter that charged 25 cents for FIVE minutes. FIVE minutes. I suppose that's for people who need to stop at a roadside bar long enough to get a daiquiri. Inside, the cottage was well-cooled via a system of thermostatted room air conditioners, and it also had several nice ceiling fans...essential stuff in south Florida. And if we'd been in the mood to sit on the front porch with our morning or afternoon drinks, it had a nice little porch and some chairs. For me, it was a bit hot in June for such behavior...I preferred nailing my cold beer inside in the den. Oh, BTW...the address below is for the Center Court's main office. The Leeward Isle Cottage itself is located at 529 Olivia Street. I have stayed here 3 times in the past 3 years. I enjoy Gert and Della who oversee the house and all of the guests are equally nice. The Hollinsed House features a pool, wi-fi access, 7 spacious suites including studios, one & two bedroom condos that are fully equipped for your convenience. Kitchens include microwaves, coffeemakers, blenders, toasters, and all of the comforts you're used to having at home. Large private bathrooms, ceiling fans, cable TV, VCR's, and air conditioning. And local trips and excursions can be arranged. All suites have private entrances, sun decks and telephone with free local calls. I would highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone visiting Key West. The location, accomodations, and ambience are hard to beat.
Gert "The Skirt", manages this guest house and has for quite a while. She makes everyone feel like they are truly coming home. I have stayed here 3 times in the past three years for Fantasy Fest and it is always sold out for that week in late October but Gert can usually find alternate accomodations should that be necessary. My room #7 is somewhat secluded behind the main house and I like it because it is quiet and cool being surrounded by trees. The guest house is close to all the action on Duval Street, plus it is close to Fausto's delicatessen & grocery store and Sarabeth's restaurant at the corner of Southard & Simonton. Parking is at a premium anywhere in Key West but the Hollinsed House usually has two or three free parking spots. If not, there is public parking on streets nearby. Our room by forroad2000 My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Bottle Inn which was very well-situated for visitors to Key West for the first time. Our room was clean and the temperature was just right as we could adjust the air conditioning with the remote control from our bed. The breakfast buffet had everything from hard boiled eggs to cereals, fresh fruits, yogurts, every kind of beverage, breads and bagels. The staff was friendly and helpful and was able to get us last minute reservations at some of the popular restaurants. We really liked our meal at the "Hot Tin Roof". We have stayed in many B&B's in Key West over the years but this is our all time favorite and the one we will return to. We will recommend the Bottle Inn to our friends and family.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The staff is outstanding. | Southernmost Point Guest House: A NICE-lookin' bed and breakfast

Just beautiful, isn't it?? by pchamlis So, you'd like to stay in a very, very nice bed and breakfast? This is probably your place in Key West, folks. We didn't stay here, as you know if you've been reading the other accomodation tips. But as a public service, I post info and photos of the Southernmost Point Guest House. Hey, while we're on the subject, I suggest staying on the southern part of Key West. The northwestern area, near Mallory Square and all the bars, is NOISY and RAUCOUS from sundown to sunup. So if you're into a few hours of sleep each night, as am I...you'll head south on Key West.
This appears to be a terrific place to spend some bed and breakfast time. They have wonderful grounds, and the house is gorgeous...and old Victorian that would makes one think lovingly of the Bay Area three thousand miles away. As accomodations go, this will be on the deluxe scale for B&Bs. If you want to spend bigger money in Key West, ignore the Hiltons and such at the other end of Duval Street and relax here. Also very close to the Hemingway House and the Lighthouse, as well as the "southernmost point" marker. THE Southernmost Motel in the continental USA by pchamlis We didn't stay at the Southernmost Motel, but we walked past it several times. I'm posting the tip as an alternative for folks looking for a basic but comfortable motel setting in Key West. The SM looks to be clean and well-situation, plenty of parking and very close to all the major items of interest in Key West. The Hemingway House and Lighthouse are maybe three blocks away. Even the hike to Mallory Square isn't more than about 8-9 blocks down Duval Street.
Quite honestly, this was the best lookin "motel" on the southern end of Key West. There are some pricier and fancier "hotel" type places (Hyatts or something) on the north/west side, near Mallory Square. I"m sure they're way more money than the Southernmost. Now, I have no qualms about spending "more money" sometimes, but I like to feel like I"m getting something special. The NW side Hyatts, etc. aren't special IMHO. If you want to spend more money, I'd suggest moving to my next tip, the Southernmost Bed and Breakfast Inn. The Travel Slut @ main entrance to Simonton Court by TheTravelSlut, 4 more photos While I did not stay here the past few years, I have friends that did the past 2 October's and I have toured the property, spent time at the resort both poolside and inside a guesthouse, plus spoken to the property managers several times. This resort is ADULTS ONLY and consists of 5 separate living areas: The Inn @ Simonton Court (9 rooms)--a group of unique rooms that were formerly part of a cigar factory, none are alike, all are charming The Manor House (2 rooms)--- an old restored shotgun house and each room is poolside The Cottages (9 rooms)--- an all-kitchenette, private home-type room and set for 2 couples The Mansion (6 rooms)--- a romantic Victorian residence The Townhouse (4 rooms)--- the most elegant accomodation, 2 story secluded suites which share small pools and face the courtyard and can be configured to accomodate many guests This resort has a high number of return guests due to its location, service, accomodations and many that I interacted with seemed to feel that all guests were part of the "family"
This ADULTS ONLY resort has: Four pools A hot tub Porches and patios Complimentary continental breakfast Non-Smoking in rooms Minimum stays with deposits required All units have private bath, air conditioning, ceiling fans, vable TV, VCR, phones, safe & refrigerator Many garden areas, secluded areas, and quiet areas Low season = June 1 through September 30 Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 320 Simonton Street Key West, Florida 33040Phone: 800-944-2687 or 305-294-6386Directions: 1 block north of Duval Street in the middle of Old TownWebsite: http://www.simontoncourt.com Other Contact: 305-293-8466 (fax)
