Southern Most Marker by littlesam1
Well here I am, hat on and standing at the southern most point in the continental United States. Well not exactly. Although the marker says this is the southern most point in the continental US its not. Key West is an island so its not part of the continental US. It is part of Florida though which is part of the continental United States so maybe we can let it slide. But if you consider it an island than its not the southern most point. Hawaii is the southern most point. The marker also says that Cuba is only 90 miles away. I read in a book while I was in Key West that Cuba is more like 98 miles away but 90 sounded better for tourism purposes. So who knows?Anyway its still a great place for a photo and I can tell everyone that I was at the southern most point even though I probably wasn't.
I have seen this marker on quite a few VT pages. From the pictures I thought it was in some big open area on a beach point. It is actually at the end of a very narrow street. And you have to wait in line to take your turn taking a picture. Because everyone wants their picture taken at the "almost " southern most point in the continental United States
