Great Value on Duval Street

I have stayed at the Duval House twice, both times in Room 10, which is a small room with a shared balcony overlooking the courtyard. The rates and the location are what brings me back. For the price difference to stay in a fancy hotel on the island, my husband bought me a David Yurman necklace AND a Lagos bracelet.
Both times I stayed in Room 10, the in-wall AC has been really annoying (noisy), but if you play with it enough, you can make it stop squealing. Other than the AC, the room is lovely, but small.
On my second stay, the housekeeping was a bit flighty. Towels were not replaced, or (rudely) placed on top of towels I was re-using (I'm talking about the wet ones I left on the floor to be replaced). Although this was a daily occurance on my sophemore stay, the management was very quick and courteous about replacing the towels and addressing other housekeeping issues for us.

Unique Quality: The Duval House has a pool centered in its beautiful courtyard, with plenty of seating for guests. There is an enclosed pool house where you can escape from the sun. They serve a continental breakfast each morning in the pool house, and each morning they update the "Temperatures Back Home" board, which brings great delight when you see how cold it is in your home town.
As I was checking out on my most recent stay, the manager informed me that they were renovating their pool this summer (2007), and hopefully the job will be done by our return in 2008. The new pool will be heated!
