A comfortable relaxing place

We were very pleased with our two night stay. The lobby and check in area is very modern and we were welcomed warmly and were given two strands of mardi gras style necklaces. Cute. Our room was ready when we got there so we had a quick check in. We had a room that overlooked the pool. The rooms all have outside entries and the interior is small but upbeat and clean.
The pool is very lovely day or night. We felt perfectly safe here. The staff was very friendly and checked quite often if we needed anything and asked how everything was. Even though the room is small, the bathroom is completely renovated with appealing tile surfaces. There were plenty of towels, hand and bath soap, shampoo and conditioner, although the towels were a bit thin. The sink was outside the shower area, which is always nice. There was always plenty of ice. All lights worked and airconditioning was fine. There was no fridge or microwave in this room.
Breakfast was served at 6:30 which was nice; because it is so warm here the breakfast area is outside on decks which overlook the pool. They had the same menu both mornings we were there. Boiled eggs, bagels, assortment of sweet rolls, juices, coffee, tea, milk, cold and hot cereals, yogurt and waffles. A big bowl of oranges and apples sat out each morning.
The location of this place is about a mile from the historic downtown. It is located on busy Roosevelt Avenue. The big problem in Key West is parking. There are two parking decks in the historic area and lots of parking meters which take one quarter for each ten minutes, so it's $1.50 an hour to park. The meters also take credit cards. There are a few all day $10 parking lots. However, we did locate a free parking area by The Hemmingway House. We went the first week in November which is a relatively low tourist time. Even so, there were a lot of people there and parking was difficult to find. The trolley stops at this Fairfield Inn, and it costs $29 for an all day off and on.
Before we left, we went over to the "beach" side of Key West and discovered it is completely different from the busy area where we stayed. There is a nice beach with an uncrowded street with a wide sidewalk for bicycling. There is a much more tropical feel and look on this side. We will try this the next time we visit the keys.

Unique Quality: Definitely the large pool is the crowning characteristic of this hotel. We paid $110 a night with a Senior's rate, so it was a nice place for a reasonable price in a high tourist area.

Well it's a roof above your head

Key West doesn't have hotels that are fair priced and are great. Most of them are just ok and have a clean room. When you look around on the internet you will find many reviews which are completly opposite to each other. So what about this hotel.

Don't expect a Marriott you will usually get for the money you pay. You could best compare this hotel to a Days inn of a better quality where you would pay about $ 50,00 for a room.

Rooms are clean, airco's are noisy beds are ok and rooms are small and very close to need a renovation.

Unique Quality: The continental breakfast which is included with your stay is good. The setting where you eat it outside by the pool is good providing it's not raining.

The people at the front desk are nice (we have been here a few times and didn't have any complaint about that.

But it still is a pitty that you can't have more than a okay room for this money..guess that's Key West.

In the winter of 2004 we will try a more expensive hotel....we'll let you know how this was...

Parking is free, you can walk to Duval street but remember it's about a 1,5 miles walk.

More about Fairfield Inn By Marriott Key West

Looked newly remodeled to us

by TripAdvisor Member Nhole

We just returned from Key West with a stay at the Fairfield Inn Key West. I entire place looked to be newly remodeled. The rooms were very clean and up to date. The bathrooms were a nice change, there are no bathtubs. Instead they have a very large and easy to get into shower stall with sliding glass doors and nice tile work, too. (Who take baths at a hotel anyway?)

Jeff the general manager and the rest of the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel is not in the middle of the action and it is about a $7 cab ride to get to the square.

Nice clean hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

This is an average hotel with pros and cons. Pros: affordable, very clean (inside and out), quiet, maid service did a great job, towels were abundant, and breakfast was very nice. Cons: no jacuzzi, small pool, small rooms, limited parking. All in all pros weigh evenly with the cons; its nothing special but not a bad place to say.

Don't listen to the bad reviews....

by A TripAdvisor Member

When I was getting ready to go to Key West, I looked up everything including the reviews on expedia and tripadvisor. Here's the thing..Tripadvisor is great in the sense that you get feedback and can go into a situation with a little bit of knowledge, but I hate when people rate middle of the road type of hotels as bad...its a 2 star hotel..not 4. Don't expect the Plaza if you are staying at a Howard Johnsons. As for the Fairfield Inn...We completely enjoyed our stay there. The rooms are small, but clean and definatly do the job. I mean you are in Key West! You are definatly not there to just sit in your hotel room. The Pool was beautiful. This too is small in comparrison to say big resort style pools, however I did get a look at the Hilton's pool and theirs is not all that much bigger. There was a nice little tiki hut right at the pool where you could get drinks, Happy Hour was cheap and you got to meet alot of people who were staying at the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful and if you are looking for a cheap meals there is a Taco Bell and Carls Jr within walking distance.

As for transportation down there.....The hotel has a place right on premise that you can rent either scooters or bikes. Also they have a little kiosk where you can book excursions. The Bone Island Shuttle makes a stop right at the hotel at about quater of and quater after every hour until 11. Its $8 to go all day. We only did it once and it worked out. Taxi's will run you a little bit if you are going down to Duval St and back a couple of times. It will run you about $10-$15 each trip, depending on how slow the taxi driver goes. If you don't have alot of cash to spend, then may I suggest the local bus system. The bus costs only a dollar and there is a bus stop right accross the street at the Banana something or other..its a hotel. I am pretty sure that all the buses go down to Duval St. just some get there quicker than others. The buses run regularly, they are clean and most of the drivers are helpful. You can download a schedule and see rates at:------- . The bus drops you off at Caroline St. right where The Bull and the Whistle is at. (good bar by the way, espeically if you are intrested in going to the clothing optional top floor called "Garden of Eden".) This is pretty much the middle of Duval St, which is nice because its where alot of the action is.

As for things to do...I would recomend the walking pub tour...It was great, we had a really nice tour guide named Lou. Tell him Melissa and Eddie from Jersey said hello. Hope my review was helpful, sorry it is so long...Have fun in Key West!!!!

Great Price for the room!

by A TripAdvisor Member

After reading the reviews I must say that I must say one thing....this is not a Ritz Carlton everyone! I work in the hospitality industry and found that for the 89.00 I spent for the night that I stayed it worked out great! The room was a bit smaller then expected, but hey, they had free high speed internet (which worked by the way), a great little breakfast by the pool, and a overall clean room. I had requested foam pillows and was suprised that they were in the room! Staff was very nice, quick check in process, and great parking! If your looking for a nice, economical place then stay here! I would return!

We spent a night at this hotel. As every other review says, the room is small. Parking is good.
Pool was open but, heater was not working. We asked the hotel desk, is the pool open and why there are no body in the pool but everybody was outside taking drink or having sun bath, we didn't get proper answer....that really made me unhappy b'coz, we later found that the heater was not working and water was so cold.
The breakfast in the morning was good and its beside the pool.
There is TacoBell, Checkers next to it...both were good.
Parking at Mallary square was not free, we took the risk of parking in the CVS for an hour for sunset viewing. After 8 pm you will find free parking spaces near to CVS itself.
hope this helps,
crao.

Does not deserve to be called a fairfield

Uglier than the worst motel 6
moldy and very small rooms - bed and pillows should have been disposed of in the 1980's
just a dump
would not recommend to my worst enemy

Horrible Motel - Stay Away From This One!!!

by TripAdvisor Member mfinn

My husband and I, along with his parents, returned from a seven day Caribbean cruise with Princess on Sat. 2/11. We were vacationing for a total of 14 days spending some time in Ft. Lauderdale, Key West and on the cruise. This was the first time any of us had ever been to Key West, so we weren't sure what to expect. We had reservations, which were made over three months ago, at the Day's Inn in Key West for that evening at a rate of $175 including tax. We made a reservation based on reviews we had read on TripAdvisor. We arrived at 4:35 p.m. to check in only to find out that our reservation had been canceled at 4:00 p.m. We were told the credit card they had on file had been declined. The credit card number they had in their system was not ours. Apparently the reservation agent who took our CC information in Nov. keyed in the wrong info. They did not bother to call us to request another credit card number or let us know they were canceling our room. After some begging, the very rude clerk did call the Fairfield Inn to see if they had any rooms left. After all, it was a Sat. night and everything in town was almost sold out. There were only two rooms available, both smoking, at a rate of $255.00 for the night. We asked if he could have the Fairfield hold one of the rooms for us. They agreed to hold a room for ten minutes, so we rushed over to the hotel. We were very happy to be going to a Marriott property since my husband and I are members of their Marriott Rewards club. The clerks working at the front desk were very nice and sympothized with us after hearing that the Day's Inn canceled our reservation. This hotel is more like a motel with outside room entrances, which is two stories high. We had a room on the top level in the back, room # 219. There is an outside elevator, so we did not have to walk up two flights of stairs with all of our luggage. Upon entering the room, we were extremely disappointed. This property is very old and is in poor condition. The beds were disgusting. The mattresses were torn, stained and falling apart (please see photos). The shower had hair in it and the carpet was so dirty it made our feet black. I could not believe this was a Marriott property! And, we paid $255.34 for this room for one night. I spoke with a lady in the elevator and she mentioned to me that both she and her sister had black feet after walking around their room, so I know it was not an isolated incident. One positive, they do offer a complimentary continental breakfast. In my opinion, they should offer a full breakfast for the price we paid. However, we were so anxious to get away, we ate breakfast in Key West. Please think twice before staying at this motel.

Misleading reviews: "Fair in Price" review is not this hotel

by TripAdvisor Member MizzouBluke

The pictures you see in the "Fairfield Inn Fair in Price" review are not the Fairfield Inn. The staff at this hotel was polite enough. Rooms were very small and smelled of urine. Yes, I'm sorry, but that was the smell. This hotel is not located on or near water, rather it's on a busy, noisy highway.

Scooter rental place was handy. Breakfast was similar to all other Fairfields. Parking was adequate

We left after one night.
