Well, we didn't stay. The place looked great during the day, had all the ammenities of a hostel, but when night came around it became party central. Since the rooms all face the central courtyard, and our window didn't properly close, it was essentially like trying to sleep in the middle of a party zone with people drinking, yelling, and blasting music. We left shortly after trying to sleep and cut our trip short. One of the other guests in our room also left for the night, possibly to sleep in his car? If you're taking it easy for the night, like to stay up late and party, and can sleep in in the morning, then this place is great. But if you're planning on getting up early and need sleep, stay elsewhere.

It's not a place where you can feel welcomed at all, but with Key West prices... it;s the best option.
The place itself is just a hostel... nothing more, nothing less. The problem is they know they are the cheapest option in town, so they don't care about you.
The location is not the best, but you are still two or three blocks from Duval and another couple of blocks from the beach.

Cheap, moderately clean. Safe. A decent place to sleep but not much else. Decent location with bicycle rental. I left my car parked and rode the bike my whole stay.

Besides the hostel you can get one of the ten motel rooms with pivate bathroom
Unique Quality: enjoy the picnic area in the outdoor courtyard.

Ended up in Key West with no hotel booking and also didn't realise that there was a power boat meeting on, so there were literally no hotels available, the last room I tried was expensive and by the time I got to the hotel, someone had already taken it. SO I ended up driving around and finding this hostel, quite close to the southernmost hotel. It was $20 a night for a shared room, which was cool, the place was reasonably clean and the staff were friendly. Its located about 10 minutes from the centre of Duval Street, its a nice walk in. I used this place as a base at night, so generally didn't hang about for long periods, if this is how you travel, this is the cheapest and best option in Key West.
Unique Quality: Cheap! As I said, when everything else was booked, this place still had free beds.

The Seashell Motel is part of the Key West Youth Hostel. I'm not sure if the motel is what the hostel books as private rooms for hostelers or if it is indeed thought of as separate. Our room was clean and comfortable and had a fridge in it. The hostel books snorkel and scuba trips and rents out bicycles. There is also free parking which is a big plus in Key West. The motel was located three blocks off Duval and one block from the oceanside beaches.

The YHA is a great place to stop. Its about 5 minutes from town, has aircon in the rooms, very much needed! Has a courtyard for chilling out and meeting people. About $18/nt for a dorm.

There is only one hostel in Key West. I didn't actually end up staying, but I can say that the staff were very helpful to me when I needed to get a taxi. It is a few blocks away from the beach and a few blocks away from Duval street.

Dependent upon what you consider to be budget, I recommend Casa325 (http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/b64b7/ba504/3/) which is very reasonably priced by Key West standards and just off Duval.
