Key West little Piece of Paradise

My 2 sisters came to visit me in Fort Myers. They wanted to head to key west for the weekend, so we took the Ferry from Fort Myers to Key west. The ride was a bit long, but my sisters are very entertaining, so that made it okay. We had planned to stay at the Knowles house as we had heard it was a nice, quiet place, located just far enough from the hustle and bustle of duval, but close enough to walk over if we wanted some late night fun.

The rooms were tastefully decorated and clean. They served a great breakfast every morning. Lots of bagels, fruit, eggs, English muffin, cereal and so much more. The part I really likes was you could sit with the other guests and talk about your day, or your crazy night you had last night, or you could be alone up on the sundeck and just chill.

Paul and Les were great. One of my sisters is really into art and Paul and Les gave us the rundown on the galleriess. They were great, letting us know who has the best entertainment, shopping and galleries. We had a blast.

If you are heading to key west, look up the knowleshouse.com they are right off eaton street, which makes them convenient to everything.

Unique Quality: 1. Onsite owners really made a difference.
2. Walking distance to everything.
3. Great sundeck.

The Knowles House

Anywhere in Key West is expensive during Fantasy Fest. Plan on the low $200's per night for a room far from the activity (taxi required) to an average of about $350 in the most convenient places. Some rooms (exceptionally nice ones) may run as much as $800+ per night. The Knowles House worked out to be very fairly priced, though with a 6 night minimum.

Unique Quality: Nice, homey atmosphere. Enjoyed the stay with excellent guests all of whom were willing to share experiences and join the fun. Les & Paul, the proprietors, were excellent hosts and VERY helpful in planning activities and making reservations.

More about Knowles House

Fantastic Anniversary!

by TripAdvisor Member cyberwints

My husband and I were looking for a weekend getaway for our 20th wedding anniversary. We settled on Key West, then set about finding a place to stay. We'd never stayed at a B&B but felt it was the right time to try one.

We picked Knowles House and were very pleased with our decision. Les and Paul are wonderful hosts and were able to answer every question we had - where to eat, where the best place to see the sunset was and how to get there. Their knowledge of KW is outstanding and all of their suggestions where right on target. We felt as though we were part of their family. Oh, and their homemade breads are the best!

The house is beautiful and rich with history. The patio terrace, where breakfast is served, is tropical and peaceful. The house is located close to everything - we walked or bicycled everywhere.

I highly recommend Knowles House for anyone looking for a place to stay in KW. The atmosphere, hosts and location can't be beat.

The house and innskeepers were great!

by TripAdvisor Member LARRYANDKELLY

We had a great time at the Knowles house it was really close to the attractions. Les and Paul, the Innskeepers were full of information and really nice. The house was really kept up nice and we were very well taken care of. It was extremely hot while we were there and it was sure nice to come home to the air conditioning and the pool. We really enjoyed our time at the Knowles house. Larry Jones and Kelly Nunns

Will be back!

We have visited Key West 2-3 times a year for the past decade, trying to stay at a different hotel/B&B almost every chance we get. Some of our favorites are Pilot House and Marreros (for B&B charm and clothing optional pool areas). We heard about Knowles House through a friend and weren't disappointed. Although Les and Paul were not there (a friend Sharon looked after us and did a great job!), you can tell they take great pride in their oasis tucked away in an area of the island we don't frequent too much except for the trips to Schooner Wharf and Finnegan's Wake (both are a two-minute walk away...how convenient!).
Yes the house is old and dark inside, but it's cool. You can imagine the history of the house (before additions put on outside along the pool) since it was a private residence a century ago. Give me that over some glitzy South Beach lobby any day! The room near the pool was very comfortable and quiet. Jacuzzi was relaxing, pool was refreshing and we got fried on the C/O sun deck after just two hours (and this was in December...might be too hot to be up there in the summer). Breakfast was great too!
I thought parking might be a problem, but found an open parallel spot not too far away down Eaton.
It was early December and still summer rates, so it was definitely worth the expense. Also, make sure to walk down to Eaton and Margaret and rent from Eaton Bikes. Great guys, nice selection and cheap!
Will definitely be back to Knowles House.

Our Stay

After finally staying at a Key West Bed and Breakfast, I now know what all the hoopla is about. We will never stay in a motel, hotel or resort again. Les and Paul know what service is all about as well as being able to capture some of the essence of Key West.

Paradise

by TripAdvisor Member David_ChEdinburgh

Simply Paradise sums Knowles House up perfectly.
The owners, Les and Paul couldn't do enough to help us in our short 4 night stay in Key West and it was all greatly appreciated.
The property is located a short distance from most of all the major attractions of Key West and is great to come back to its tranquility following a busy day.
I could go on repeating what others have said positively about the plunge pool, the spa, the rooftop sundeck, the lovely rooms, the bath robes, the charm of the old house and the delicious breakfast complete with home made cake ;-) but I won't because it's terribly difficult to find fault with anything about Knowles House.
If we ever head for Key West again, we'll be staying at Knowles House.

What a great place!!!

by TripAdvisor Member PinkDenial

My husband and I stayed at the Knowles House in Key West for 4 nights in August, and we had a wonderful time! We'd never stayed at a bed and breakfast/guesthouse before, and I'd heard plenty of horror stories about them...none of which applied to the Knowles House.

Les and Paul, the owners, are very friendly and helpful, but not at all overbearing. They have wonderful recommendations for restaurants and can quickly set you up with activities. They have the brochures and menus for just about everything on the island.

We stayed in the Italian Room on the second floor, which has a temperpedic mattress and a whirlpool bathtub. The room was spotless and comfortable. Breakfast included fruit, bagels, hardboiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, and a treat of the day. One day there were waffles, cinnamon raisin bread on another.

The hot tub was surrounded by tropical plants, and there was an outdoor shower. The pool is a plunge pool, so it's small. But it's big enough for a handful of people to relax and cool off. We were there during the hottest month, and the house was booked, but we never had a problem with relaxing in the pool when we wanted. There's plenty of room to seriously swim in the ocean.

Knowles House is located about two blocks from the boardwalk and harbor, and maybe five blocks from Duval. It's close enough to be only a ten minute walk in serious heat, but far enough that street noise was never a problem. There is plenty of free street parking on the surrounding block. There are guesthouses that are right on Duval, but even they are blocks away from where the nightlife is (and they didn't look anywhere near as nice).

I can't recommend the Knowles House highly enough!

Fun, personal, and relaxing!

by TripAdvisor Member rileyjar

I had a great time at the knowles house. Les and Paul were excellent hosts, the location was great, the place was relaxing. There were plenty of places to retreat to, rooms were well kept, and the overall result was a very personal vacation in which we received a lot of help and advice from the innkeepers. I'd definitely recommend to any honeymooners out there if you're looking for a nice, quiet, relaxing, romantic, and personal vacation in Key West.

Pleasant Thanksgiving

by TripAdvisor Member citrob

We really enjoyed our stay at the Knowles House. We had the opportunity to stay in two different rooms (a necessary accommodation given how booked they were for Thanksgiving...thanks, Les!) and both rooms were very nice. No doubt, the smaller rooms are just that-small, but the bathrooms were suprisingly large and the rooms very comfortable. Les and Paul were away during our stay, but Sharon was very helpful and a delight to talk with. She made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel right at home. I have no doubt Les and Paul would have done the same. I also enjoyed the location, which is close enough to walk to attractions, but far enough away for quite evenings. Do keep in mind that Eaton is a little busier than other streets, but traffic noise was not intrusive or disruptive. The sundeck was very nice and the pool deck well maintained.
