Were I to stay at the Parrot Key for 1 or 2 nights. I'd give a glowing review, but we stayed here for a week and spent close to 2 grand with all hotel charges, don't forget taxes and fees. I've had considerable experience with hotel accommodations and was disappointed with the area devoted to in room meal prep. It was ad hock. Refrigerator was substandard and was told is in most of the rooms. It was second hand with a lock and key previously used as a liquor/snacks vending dispenser I've seen in motels. It had very limited space, no freezer space and could not cool in any capacity. If we stayed 1 or 2 nights this would not be a big problem, but we stayed a week, in the King Suite, most expensive room per se. Our expectations were basic considering the advertising we read on the web site and for the money spent. We were unable to perform any meaningful meal prep. This raised our basic costs and increased our level of frustration, inconvenience and time spent with basic attempts to store and eat or drink in our room. They supplied ice buckets but made it difficult for us to obtain any ice. The ice dispensers were not only a considerable distance from our room but excreted only small amounts. At first I thought this was from overuse but that was the experience on several occasions, at different times, with both machines. I don't understand why Parrot Key would supply only 2 machines for 146 rooms. It seems such a basic commodity in such a warm climate. Another pet peeve was our porch overlooking the bay. it was one of the main selling points for the King Suite. these porches were all connected in a way as to disallow any privacy when more then 1 set of guests were present. One example, my wife and I were enjoying a private romantic moment with the sunset, when another couple appeared right next to us. They were only a few feet away. It destroyed our private moment. They obviously became uncomfortable and stayed for a few moments and went back inside. There was no privacy availed to either party. This could easily been resolved with a shade or small vertical separator between porches, but Parrot Key offers none, With the front or back porch, its basically one big long porch. On a positive note, Walgreens is right next door and has everything you could want/need even inexpensive snorkeling gear. Parking is limited but Walgreen's parking lot is larger and an arrangement has been made. There's an incredible pizza joint in the plaza across from Publix supermarket almost on other side of the highway. My wife and I gave their pizza a 9/10 scale. If you stay at the Parrot you cannot walk to old Key West. its a couple miles away. Enterprise is right down the street and we rented a little Fiat for $45 a day. same price as a scooter. The Parrot's king bed and pillows were very comfortable and as advertised. The expanded cable TV and quality of flat screens were also a plus, though the channels available in the bedroom were less. In considering the total cost per night, even with the overall pleasant atmosphere and ambiance, we will be looking for other more user friendly accommodations in the future.

Directions: Its on highway 1 facing west side bay

I am currently staying at Parrot key resort and offer the following opinion regarding the property:

Pro: The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the rooms are clean and practically new.

Con: Every downstairs room has a beautiful spacious porch from which to enjoy the lush environment - but no chairs to sit in! No reason was offered for this oversight.

Con: Parrot Key bills itself as a "luxury" resort and even charges a daily "resort fee", yet many features were unavailable or off limits after sundown. The property has four beautiful lighted pool areas but close all but one after sundown. No reason was offered for this restriction.

Con:
The "luxury" room I stayed in did not come equipped with an iron and the laundry facility on site didn't either.

Con: Don't be misled by their use of the term "waterfront" in the property description. There is no beach, per se, just some sandy areas within a fenced area without water access. The only real waterfront views are from a few second story rooms.

Con: Ice buckets are furnished in the room but there are no ice machines. You must go to the pool bar for ice but it's not always open.

Unique Quality: Lush landscaping

Under Construction

Unique Quality: I have not stayed at this hotel, but it is one that I considered the primary one to stay at if I could not get a space on NAS Key West. They have a full hot breakfast. It is well situated for staying outside of Old Town. It is on Salt Run Channel and there are rentals on the channel of boats etc. The pool is open 24 hours, and they have a Tiki Bar from which you can watch the sunset. It is right across the street from the Key West Diner, and TGI Fridays which are in a shopping center, it is next to Home Depot and Walgrens, and it is on a bus route to downtown.
