Southernmost Point?
by meteorologist1
The southernmost point in the continental United States is located here in Key West. It is marked by this colorful buoy, where you can get your picture taken. I've been told this is actually still not the most southern point in the continental U.S. There are actually some private property close by that is more south but closed to the public. So technically speaking, this is the southernmost point in the continental U.S. freely accessible to the public.
When you gotta go, you gotta go!

Key West is an odd assortment of attractions and attitudes. But one thing I noticed quickly is that while the streets are crowded with small shops, toilets are limited to paying customers only. If you find yourself with a child (or adult, for that matter) that simply is running at the end of their endurance and you don't want to buy a $8 t-shirt in order to use the facilities, Burger King is located on Front Street, between Duval and Ann Streets. For $1.20 you can get a small drink AND eleviate the crisis! The performances on Mallory Square during the Sunset celebration are very much worth the time spent!
Mallory Square at Sunset
by Cruefan
The Sunset Festival at Mallory Square is a must do. The whole area is full of street performers who work for tips. They had one guy hanging upside down wrapped in chains. He was supposed to get himself out (I never saw him do it).
We also saw lots of steet musicians, jugglers and firebreathers. And of course things wouldn't be complete without panhandlers.
The sunset times are published in the local papers. My favorite part of the Sunset Festival was getting a rum runner (151 Bacardi, Blackberry Brandy, and Banana Liquor) and sitting at an outdoor patio watching the sunset.
Walk away from Duval & explore all of Old Town
by dreamseeker
Just take a walk through Old Town. Once you get off Duval you find this is a great little village full of mystical experiences. Breakfast at Blue Heaven was my favorite thing to do. Just watch out for the chickens! Oh, that turquoise water! I loved taking my boat out and then swim naked in that clear warm sea. It made me think maybe I had been a porpoise in another life.

Either from a pier or the beach. Watch the sunset. It is beautiful. You'll have lots of company, everyone watches the sunsets. When the sun finally sinks below the horizon, most often people will even applaud the beautiful show that Mother Nature just gave. I simply love biking around the Keys. I love looking at all of the houses, shopping in the galleries on Duval Street and getting soap at Key West Aloe. A great vacation is guaranteed in Key West. I always come home trying to figure out how to afford a house in the Keys -- I would love to make Key West my permanent residence.
