Short and sweet! The Southernmost house was a great weekend getaway for my Husband and I. Beach access, great bar, relaxed atmosphere. Room was clean and tidy. Staff friendly and helpful! We will definitely come back soon!
Unique Quality: Love the characteristic of the hotel.
Located at the South end of Duval Street it's close to everything. Nice room. Nice stuff. Beautiful place. Very clean. 3 polls - 2 with bars. Free parking. Private beach. Cafe for breakfast on the property. Would recommend it to anybody. A little bit pricey but location is great.
The stay in the Southernmost Hotel was great. The staff were very friendly and were very easy to talk to. When asking for directions the staff were eager to give easy directions. The room was very nice comfortable. The bar and grill at the beach was all so a very relaxing place to eat and drink. I plan on going back to this motel every year if possible
Unique Quality: The two pools had easy access. One behind the office was very quiet and very nice to relax by. The pool at the ocean side was very large and the staff was very friendly and the access to the beach was very nice.
the southern most hotel is a moderately priced hotel on the south end of duval street. the rooms and amenities are what you would expect from a moderately priced chain hotel. it is located near the southern most point on duval street which is a more quiet area than north duval. the southern most hotel offers a good value for a key west hotel. as with most hotels in key west prices are much higher during the winter tourist season.
Directions: south duval street.
Most of my time was spent fishing or on Duval Street but the Southernmost was a nice, clean place to stay. I opted for one of the cheaper rooms on the street side of the motel but if I was doing it over, I'd go for a pool side room. The pool side cabana bar is a great spot for some afternoon relaxation. The Southernmost is a 10 minute walk from the best of Key West night life and a 20 minute walk from the best of the fishing marinas. The only issue is that the hot water didn't always work pre-fishing (5 - 6 a.m.). I think the hot water may have been solar heated.
Unique Quality: Great poolside cabana bar, nearby art galleries and beautiful evening walks through old town key west.
This hotel is one of the few at Key West that has beach access. The beach is small but you can swim in the Gulf there without paying any fees. Also, has 3 nicely maintained pools, two tiki bars, and a jacuzzi. If you rented a car, this hotel has free parking, and you're going to need it, since parking in Key West is expensive and difficult.
Attractions: It's one block from the Southernmost monument and the Butterfly Conservatory, a short walk to Hemingway's house and the Key West lighthouse. Several nice restaurants are close buy on Simonton and on Duval. To walk from Southernmost to Mallory Square is about 30 minutes if you don't stop anywhere, about 1.5 miles. It's not a bad walk, though in the heat of summer it can be quite grueling.
Our room was clean and well-maintained. The grounds are nice and the service was good. Unlike hotels on Duval Street in the midst of the action, Southernmost is quiet, if you like to sleep in. I wish we'd have had a shorter walk to the end of Duval, but we did go to Key West in August, so if you're there during more temperate weather, it would probably be perfect for you. I'd stay here again.
Unique Quality: 3 pools and a jacuzzi-- very nice
Private beach with dock
Directions: Corner of Duval and United
We didn't stay at the Southernmost Motel, but we walked past it several times. I'm posting the tip as an alternative for folks looking for a basic but comfortable motel setting in Key West.
The SM looks to be clean and well-situation, plenty of parking and very close to all the major items of interest in Key West. The Hemingway House and Lighthouse are maybe three blocks away. Even the hike to Mallory Square isn't more than about 8-9 blocks down Duval Street.
Unique Quality: Quite honestly, this was the best lookin "motel" on the southern end of Key West. There are some pricier and fancier "hotel" type places (Hyatts or something) on the north/west side, near Mallory Square. I"m sure they're way more money than the Southernmost.
Now, I have no qualms about spending "more money" sometimes, but I like to feel like I"m getting something special. The NW side Hyatts, etc. aren't special IMHO. If you want to spend more money, I'd suggest moving to my next tip, the Southernmost Bed and Breakfast Inn.

Directions: Truman Avenue into Key West, and left on Duval. Drive until you almost run out of land and look to your left. (Right across from the Butterfly Conservatory)
Booked over the internet in Fort Laurderdale for the best rate with no trouble.
3 pools to use.
Unique Quality: A lovely beach.
Directions: As the name suggests, head for the southern most point.
I have not stayed here, but I took the picture when I was across the street at the butterfly conservatory. It is at the Ocean side of the island, and quite a walk from downtown Duval.
When in Key West all you need is a place to keep your stuff, park your car and sleep. Southernmost Motel fills this role. It is pretty nice and for Key West it is pretty reasonable.
Unique Quality: Bars, pools, near a beach, and close to everything.
Nice hotel, clean, close to the beach. Cross the street and you're at the beach, where is also the Duval Beach Club. Everything is on walking distance. (15 minutes to Mallory Square, we like to walk, so for us it was no problem)
Unique Quality: Pool, good location, near the beach.
Directions: Across La mer and Dewey House, almost on the end of Duval street.
I personally found this very nice relaxing motel extremely good. Located in the famous Duval Street, but a the end of it which makes it quiet and a good walk (not tiring !) from the center.
The motel is split into several small building centered around 3 pools and bars all surrounded by tropical trees.
We had not done any booking in advance and somehow ended up with very spacious great rooms....ground-floor level with terrace, just 3 steps from the pool and jacuzzi !
General service was very good
Bathing suit compulsory at the pool (please check my local custom for bathing suit)

I want to stay in Key West for a couple of nights. I am looking for cheap cheap cheap hotel. Not rat infested or anything .. something in the $50-$100 range would be perfect. Would like to be in walking distance of Duval Street (the good part). Anyone know a hotel that fits the bill??
Also looking for great restaurants .. thats where I want to spend the $$$ :-)
This is the cheapest motel I know in Key West and it isn't what I call inexpensive. It's part of the Key West hostel. www.keywesthostel.com
You can't touch a decent motel room in any place where I would stay for under $100 even in the lowest of the low season. $150-$200 can get you a nice room at the Best Western Hibiscus or the Southernmost Hotel, most of the year. They might be a little cheaper in summer. If cheap cheap cheap is your only option, try the incredibly horrible Key Lodge Motel, El Rancho Motel, or Blue Lagoon Motel. They are all BAD, but might fit your budget. I wouldn't let a cat stay at those places though.
