Looks good right? Well, looks are deceiving.

Ok people, you may have noticed we RARELY BAD MOUTH ANY BUSINESS. I am thinking about one out of 100 of our tips are negative. Usually, if we don't have anything to say, we shut up. Well, I read a lot of bad reviews on the internet, but decided to book this hotel anyway due to its location, and the pictures on the internet. I had heard the worst part was that even though you book a very pricy oceanfront room, they stick you a couple of streets over with no ocean view in another building. I booked directly with the hotel on the phone, and expressed my non willingness to be juggled to another site. OK, they said. We were to stay there the last two nights of our trip.

Unique Quality: So the night before checking in, we stopped by, and this little rude, hip shaking, wrist flopping, mean dude behind the desk says he's putting us....you guessed it, a couple streets over in the back there...uh uh, not us. We said no, and he started yelling at us and told us he was going to call the cops?! Huh? We left, went back to the Blue Marlin and stayed a couple of x-tra days due to the nice place, cheap prices, and proximity to everything you need or want to do.
I really wanted to stay there but...oh yea, do you see a beach in this photo? That's right, no beach.

Upmarket Motel Great Location Car Parking

by A TripAdvisor Member

Upmarket Motel - Be careful the 'Southernmost On The Beach' is across the road from the sister 'Southernmost Motel' which is cheaper but just that, a relatively basic average motel.

'Southernmost On The Beach' is more expensive with most rooms having ocean views looking across a small beach. It is ideally situated at the quite end of Duval Street where all the bars and restaurants are to be found. the centre of Duval St and towards Mallory Square end tend to be much noisier. You can walk from end to end of Duval St in 15-20 minutes at most.

Twice a week there was alot of noise from a neighbouring hotel disco which lasts until about 11pm which is a nuissance if you are early to bed.

'Southernmost On The Beach' has free car parking is a big advantage in Key West, but breakfast is not included.

Key West is very very laid back and very well worth a 3 or 4 night visit, it is by far the best of the Keys, the rest are a real dissapointment by comparison.

great place...

We stayed at the Southernmost on the beach, at first we were a little hesitant, after reading some of the reviews. However upon arrival we dispelled all negative comments...the service was outstanding, the rooms are great, and there is a super view from the second floor. The beach we overlooked was small, but lovely. We had a great time in key west and when we come back next year we will be staying at this hotel again.

Great place for the price.

I visited Key West March 2-7th on an anniversary trip. Great place for couples. I was hesistant after the negative reviews but glad I didnt listen. Southernmost on The Beach was excellent. The room was clean, modern decor and comfortable for the price. The hotel had a down home feel, porch with chairs etc. All rooms are not oceanview. If you want ocean view stay at Ocean Keys and pay the price. Hotel location was good. Mallory Square was 1 1/4 mile walk from the hotel. You can rent bikes or scooters from the hotel. Staff at hotel were friendly and willing to please. The beach club was right next door, good place for drinks or breakfast and lunch. Someone in another review spoke of a nude resort next door. Schooner's bar and grill is next door. They are a "clothes optional" bar and you can see them if they are on their deck and your on the tanning deck. However, Key West does have a reputation to uphold so what do you expect! I will visit Key West again and will stay at Southernmost on The Beach.

Love the place

Just returned from Key West and stayed here for 3 nights. The entire place has been redone. The rooms are not only tastfully decorated but immaculate and very well maintained by the housekeeping staff. The beds are all new high beds and very comfortable. The location is as it says at the southernmost tip of Key West and at the quite end of Duval Street which houses quaint shops and art galleries. If you want a loud highrise this is not the place. However, if you are looking for a lovely, clean place, I would very highly recommend it. I must say that I am very confused by one of the previous reviews. This place juts out on the water how one can say they couldn't see the water from their room is a mystery to me. The outside of the hotel is plantation style - very attractive and very well kept. The lobby is beautiful and we found the staff to be very accommodating. This is my second stay at the Southernmost and I most definitely would return.

paradise

Just returned from a quick four day trip to Key West with my husband. We stayed at the Southernmost on the Beach, with some scepticism. After reading some reviews I was nervous about our choice. Well we could not have been happier. There is NOTHING about this hotel I can complain about. The rooms are lovely and kept very clean. The view was spectacular, the hotel juts into the ocean, it's almost impossible not to have a good view! We did however pay a little extra for the king size, full ocean view option, and were not disappointed. The staff is so nice and helpful. It is on the "quiet" end of Duval, which we found to be perfect. Mostly we walked to Duval, it's a little more than a mile to the bars but there's lots of shops and restaurants on the way to enjoy. Mopeds are great and available at the hotel. The hotel also has a little gift shop and information center by the pool, very convenient and helpful. The beach is spectacular. Rent a chair from Tom and he'll bring you your cold beer in ice!! I would recommend Southernmost on the Beach to anyone and everyone. This is a great hotel!!!!!!!!!!!

Great weekend at Southernmost on the Beach in Key West

by TripAdvisor Member TravelingJane33

Had a great weekend at Southernmost on the Beach in Key West. The reception staff was very helpful and friendly. We got great recommendations for places to see and eat at. We were allowed to keep our parking spot even after checkout. They have facilities for the guests to shower and change when they don't have a room yet or after checkout. The room we had on the second floor was clean and had all amenities including shower caps and an iron and a balcony. We watched 4 beach weddings from the balcony. The beds were comfortable and didn't make any creaking noises. The mattresses were better than mine at home. We were within walking distance of Southernmost Point and had complete access to Duval Street. Yes the hotel itself does not have a beach, but Southernmost on the Beach, Southernmost Hotel, Dewey House, and La Mer are owned by the same corporation. So we could use amenities in all 4 properties, including the beach at La Mer and all swimming pools and hot tubs. This hotel is definitely worth the price for the service, amenities, and location.

Great Hotel!

by TripAdvisor Member SweetBee

I have been at the Southernmost on the Beach and the Wyndham Reach Resort and I can tell you there's no comparison. Southernmost has a friendlier staff, cleaner rooms, and great views in the more expensive rooms(but reasonable compared to the other waterfront hotels on island). I think that bad review had to be another hotel employee, because this place made my 1st trip to Key West much better just because of the hotel. Swimming right off the pier ladder was nice - my wife liked it especially since she didn't have to walk through the seaweed to get to the clear water - funny, yes I know! There is South Beach right in front of the hotel which is a public beach. South Beach is flanked by this hotel, La Mer & Dewey House(owned by same company-Old Town Resorts), and a pier on the other side at the end of a street.

Best combo of value and luxury on the Ocean

by TripAdvisor Member ScottMK

Looks like a luxury property but it is priced like a value hotel. Recently renovated and very well maintained. Almost every room has an ocean view. Service was super friendly. I have been going to the Keys for 20 years and this is one of the top values in all of Key West.

Great

We stayed at the Southernmost on the beach Motel just recently. It can be easily confused with other '' Southernmost " places so to simplify the location it is right next door to the Atlantic Shores resort on South Street. Nice first floor room mid way down the Motel. Friendly Staff, everything clean. Pool(s) are clean, and the tiki bars are a nice touch. Do not stay at the very end rooms however near the ocean. The Motel next door has nightly music until 11pm and unless you enjoy very loud music I'd stay in another room. I'd stay there again but just to note you are at the very end of Duval. Mallory Square is about a mile and a half down Duval. Rent Mopeds or bikes and forget your car. Parking anywhere is a premium and the costs are very high.
