Home Base for Disney, Universal, Sea World, etc.
"Kissimmee, Northwest area"
A good location for anyone visiting the attractions.
Highway 192 has many motels/hotels and they are on the city bus route. Some can be had for $20 per night, and some also offer weekly deals for under $200. If you are going to Disney it is about a half-hour ride on Lynx bus #56 to the Disney Transportation and Ticket Center from Highway 192. From there you can take the Monorail over to Epcot or up to Magic Kingdom. To get to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios (old MGM), or Downtown Disney you just have to jump on one of the many Disney buses. Lynx bus #50 will bring you up to Sea World / I-Drive area and to downtown Orlando. Lynx bus #111 runs out to the International Airport. So, you 'can' get around by taking buses but it is very time consuming. To get, from where I live (near 192), up to Universal Studios takes two hours. Renting a car would be a good option but you have to know your way around. Or you could take a taxi, but plan on spending about $30 to $40.
It seems, everytime I go somewhere, I run into a tourist needing directions or information... I am always glad to help!
I'm sure there are many pages on the attractions so I will skip over that part.
I would suggest taking the city bus to get around, and if you are going up to Universal Studios it will require extra time (two hour ride, four different buses). Bus pass info... http://www.golynx.com/
By car...
Most attractions from highway 192, Kissimmee area, are within a 15 minute drive. Going over to Kennedy Space Center, Cocoa Beach area takes about an hour.
The drive along 192 is interesting in itself -- lots of colorful shops.
