  • Loved the beach, not the condo

I love Florida, of course the beach and all, the view was absolutely beautiful and I loved the atmosphere. The condo was nice, but had a lot of things wrong with it. The sink was broken, along with the shower head in one of the bathrooms.. we had to duct tape it. The ice machine also was not working, the internet instructions were not very clear, along with the TV, and the sliding glass door was hard to open and close. When we called the guy that owns/manages it he was very rude and not professional at all. We paid alot of money for this condo and did NOT get the money's worth out of it. I personally would not stay here again.

Bait and Switch!!

You need to check that you are registered at the right Barefoot Beach Resort and in the room category that you reguested. (All Barefoot Hotels are on one web site but according to managers at both resorts we spoke to they are not connected in any way.)
We booked months in advance at the Barefoot Resort in Indian Rocks Beach and ended up at Madeira Beach. We were assigned a studio (very small) that was described as a one bedroom. The staff at this establishment were less than helpful and even a times bordering on rudeness and dishonesty when we tried to sort out the problem. Just be sure you know what you are getting into. There must be places in Florida that are honest, clean, and helpful. Unfortunately the Barefoot Beach Resort is not one of them.

A Slice of Heaven!!!

From the "blueplates" near Kalamazoo Mi.  We just got home a few hours ago from our trip to Florida.  Looking on line it's hard to tell if you are getting what you think that you are.  Barefoot beach resort at Madeira Beach FAR exceeded our expectations.  We went to celebrate our 10th anniversery and would still be in our room if we could!!!  This was the most relaxed place that we have ever stayed.  The view was spectacular.(we watched dolphins from our balcony.)  The staff is absolutely GREAT!!!  Thank you so much Lisa and Sherry.  It was so nice to stay somewhere where we felt like we were visiting family and not just another tourist.  The cleaning staff must also take pride in there work.  The room was VERY CLEAN.  I am a bit of a neat freak and it was better then what I was expecting.  We will definitly be back.  The beach is just absolutely beautiful..We stayed Aug. 4th, 5th and 6th.  Barefoot beach was combed  and clean.  Not all the beaches were.  The location is also great.  It is just a short walk  to Johns Pass.  There was not anything that we didn't just love.  We are so glad that after all the hours of research on line that we went with Barefoot Beach Resort.  It was a WONDERFUL experience. Great room, staff, pool, view and location!!!

A wonderful place to stay on the beach!

by TripAdvisor Member Tallygrandma

What a nice stay we had at the Barefoot Beach Resort Hotel in Madeira Beach last weekend. It was right on the beach, which is what we were looking for. It was very reasonably priced for a room on the beach with a kitchenette. All the rooms had balconies, either overlooking the beach or pool. We rented 10 rooms for a family reunion, and were able to get them all on the same floor, except for the handicapped room. The place was renovated a few years ago: fresh paint, new tile, granite counters in the kitchenette and bathroom. Lisa, the manager, went out of her way to help us when needed. My parents, in the handicapped room, were having difficulties with their bathroom layout, and packed up to head home after the first night. They ran into Lisa, who said to sit tight, she would find someplace else for them to stay. Lisa later told me she was near tears when she heard that my parents were leaving, as she knew that there were 29 of us all here for our reunion. She spent 2 hours and was able to find a handicapped room at a condo across the street, which better suited my parents' needs. Lisa is truely a good person, and an asset to the property. We had a wonderful long weekend, and hope to get back there next year!

Lovely small hotel with tremendous beach!

by TripAdvisor Member Jeweltravel

We stayed at the Barefoot Beach Hotel over Labor Day weekend AND had our daughter's wedding on the beach of the hotel.
The staff was courteous, friendly and accommodating. We had one two bedroom and four studio units. The two bedroom is not a true two bedroom as the second bedroom is a small room with a pull out sofa. There is also a double bed sized pull out couch in the living area. The rooms were freshly and nicely decorated. The Gulf views were beautiful. Best beach I think in the area. The smaller hotel was great for providing an intimate atmosphere for our wedding party.
I am also a travel agent and would definitely recommend this hotel for families traveling to the Clearwater/St. Pete area.

Clean & Comfortable Accomodations, Beautiful View, Best location on the beach

We just returned from the Barefoot Beach Hotel. We are a family of 4 (in our 40's with 2 boys, 1-17 yrs old, 1-13 years old. We stayed in the 1 bed, 1 coach pullout room overlooking the Gulf from July 3rd through July 11th and had a great time. The room was a little small for our older boys but it was still manageable. Our younger boy slept on the coach and we brought an aerobed for our older boy. The room was clean, comfortable, well maintained and newly decorated and was identical to what you see on their website. The hotel pool, grounds and beach were always well kept and the garbage cans were always emptied. I don't remember seeing so much as an empty wrapper or soda can laying around anywhere. The staff was wonderful, everyone on the property were very friendly and accommodating.

Johns Passing is walking distance at about 1/2 mile and had several small shops and restaurants to choose from along with Jet Ski rental, Parasailing, Dolphin Tours, Fishing and Boat Tours and their are numerous other restaurants and other small shops around the area. There was also a scooter and bike rental right outside the hotel for those wanting to set off on their own and view the sites. We were new to the area and drove the scooters to Clearwater and then to St. Pete. Madeira Beach is in between the two but closer to St. Pete. Personally I hated the over crowdedness and walls of skyrise hotels of Clearwater and although St. Pete was nice, I loved the Madeira Beach area.

Although we were there for the 4th of July celebrations and were expecting load partying teenagers the entire weekend, we were pleasantly surprised at how uncrowded and quite the area was and that it was mostly families with very few teenage partying groups. On the following days there were around 10 people hanging out on the beach in front of the hotel, this a totally relaxing place compared to a Daytona Beach situation and we also felt safe in the area.

We have been to several different areas in Florida and this place is now our favorite vacation spot, so much so that we are now figuring out vacation dates for next year so we can try their 2-Room suites. We loved this place so much that even if a 2-room isn't available, we'll be back in the 1 room studios.

Thanks so much to everyone at Barefoot Beach Hotel! We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this place.

My son took photos of the room which is pretty much a play-by-play so check out the photos.

Who could ask for more!?!?!

Ya know, we almost didn't stay here. But we are SoOoOo glad we did!!! I had actually booked our honeymoon weekend at another hotel. But after having heard not so great things about the other place and being told by our wedding officiant that THIS place was amazing, I quickly changed our plans. It was a little out of our way, as we had gotten married in Clearwater & that's where I originally booked our stay. But it was well worth the distance!

The ladies in the office were SUPER friendly, via phone and in person! Our room was perfect; not too big, not too small. The first thing I noticed when we opened the door was how clean it smelled! It also had everything you would need for a weekend, i.e. silverware, dishes, cups, microwave, fridge, etc...We had a balcony with an AMAZING view of the gulf. We even slept with the sliding glass door open one night and listened to the waves all night! The beach area for the resort was a generous size and was very clean! We didn't go into the pool, but we took a peek over the fence and it was also well taken care of.

There's a cute shopping center just down the way called John's Pass. All kinda of neat little shops. If you want a GREAT seafood dinner, you gotta go to The Friendly Fisherman! This place was D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! Huge portions and Great prices!!!

good place to stay

by TripAdvisor Member LondonEZ

This is a great place to stay. I would recommend it. The people in the office were really friendly and helpful and had lots of good tips on where to go. The room was big and spacious and spotlessly clean with new and tasteful furniture, definitely no chintz! We had a pool view room which had a good sized balcony we could sit out on with a nice view of the surrounding area.
Very handy location only a few minutes walk from Johns Pass and local restaurants, we could leave the car in the car park underneath the hotel and enjoy a few beers!

Bad Experience

by TripAdvisor Member mkirk02

We were all set to stay the first night in a standard room and we were to move right next door to a two bedroom room. At about 11:30 on the morning we were to switch rooms a lady from the resort knocks on our door and says we need to pack up and move to a room way down the hall so she can clean our room so the people in the two bedroom room next door can move into our room and then she will clean that room and we can move again into that room. We asked why we needed to move twice when they are the ones that decided to stay extra days. We were told that they were the owners grandparents. So basically if we wanted the two bedroom room that we booked that is what we had to do. So after wasting a bunch of time on our second day of our trip we decided that was rediculus and we packed up and checked out and went driving down the beach looking for another hotel. We found an excellent condo in Indian shores and they took excellent care of us.

Wow! Great Stay

by A TripAdvisor Member

We were so impressed... We stayed for three nites and had such a wonderful stay. Beautiful clean rooms facing the Gulf with fantastic views! Layout of the rooms were well thought out: complete with kitchen and sitting areas. Decor was lovely.Housekeeping was terrific. There were so many great restaurants and bars to check out. Our favorites were: The Frog Pond for breakfast, Dockside Dave's for onion rings and grouper, and Athen's for Pizza!!!
The standout for us had to be the incredible service and hospitality we received. Lisa -You were fantastic... I can see why people come back year after year.

Very Disappointed!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member CoolDudeMontana

We were very excited about our first trip to Florida. Unfortunately the lovely weather and nice beaches did not make up for our shabby accommodations. The room was the size of a shoe box and not at all like the description. We were a party of four in a room where it would be a stretch to fit two. The bathroom smelled musty and the linens were old and frayed. We asked for a couple of extra pillows because the pull-out was so old and flat but were told there were no extras. When we tried to get a different room, the manager (which is in a strip mall off the property) was both rude and unhelpful. She stated that we could leave if we wanted but would not get the money back. . The only bright spot was the cleaning staff that tried their best to make our stay pleasant. We ended up moving to another resort and enjoyed the rest of our stay. My advice is to avoid this place.
