kids + dexter?

by nwestwood

OK guys, will be going to Orlando in 2 weeks and will be doing some traveling this year. Was thinking of going to Miami for a day (or 2), now we will be with our daughter (age 7), is Miami (beach) ok for kids as every video I see there are never any children about??

Second question which may seem a bit odd but.......does any know where they film the TV show dexter and in perticular dexters appartemt block.

Many thanks.

Can only answer the Dexter question I'm afraid. In real life, it's the Bay Harbor Club condos, located at 1155 103rd Street, out on Bay Harbor Island, in Miami Beach, Florida. (On the show, Dexter lives on the second floor, and his room number is 10b.)

That's out on the north tip of the easternmost of the two Bay Harbor Islands, in Biscayne Bay. You get there by taking a bridge/road called Broad Causeway, which starts (on the west side / mainland) at North Bayshore Park, in North Miami.

After shooting the original scenes of the apartment in Miami, the producers built a replica of the apartment inside the Sunset Gower studio in Hollywood, CA - including a reproduction of the exact Miami view you'd see if you looked out Dexter's front door.

To answer the question, "....do they not film Dexter in Miami anymore?" Only the outside scenes of the building and panaorama shots are filmed in Miami. Otherwise the entire show is filmed in Hollywood, at Sunset/Gower Studios.

Since Miami is 4-5 hours south of the Orlando area, I'm not sure I would plan a day trip, particularly with a 7 year old- Too much riding and unless you have a burning desire to see a particular place in Miami, you might have more fun visiting areas closer to Orlando. This spring I took a 4 year old to Disney, but we enjoyed time spent at the beach in Flagler Beach beforehand- it's about an hour or so north of the Orlando area.

Have you thought about heading west from Orlando for a couple of days? There's a lot to see on that side also.

Wasn't going to be a day trip, we would stop over for a few nights while traveling. Done all the parks last year so want to see more of Florida this year.

Are you considering the Everglades, then, or thought about the Sarasota/ Naples/ Fort Myers/Sanibel areas?

By the way, since you were interested in the Dexter locations, this will be of interest to you. It lists all the "real locations" for the show, - none of which are in Miami.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

by seagoingJLW

The Vizcaya is located at 3251 South Miami Avenue. The property is one of two officially designated landmarks in Miami-Dade County.

It is a lavish Italianate villa surrounded by formal gardens. It was originally an estate of 180 acres.

F. Burrall Hoffman designed the buildings. Diego Suarez planned the gardens. Paul Chalfin was the general artistic supervisor of the whole project.

Nearly 200,000 people visit Vizcaya each year.

TIPPING...Many of the restaurants in Miami already include the tip in the bill which is different from many other places in the US--be aware of this so that you don't wind up tipping the server twice! Taxi drivers are supposed to get tipped 15-20% of the fare, your hotel bellman gets $1-3 PER BAG, and give your doorman $1-3 for hailing a cab or parking your car.

Local Hang Out To Relax.

by darkange1

I dont think tourist know about this area located in the heart of Miami Lakes on Main Street .
It is more of a place were families and friends from the area go to hang out.

I think Main street is perfect if you are in the area because it is a place were you could relax . In the center of main street their is a water fountain were you could sit down by and eat your Ice cream.

They have a Movie Theater that gets very busy on the weekends so go before 8pm.

good food from jonny rockets to a pizza place right outside of the theater.

it also includes the Don shula hotel so I guess tourist do go there.(aight food).

shop till you broke

by darkange1 about Aventura Mall

This mall has a Macys and it has many more good stores.
3 floors of shops should be enough!

stars like michael jackson and gloria estefan shop there ( thats what i ve heard). sun screen and Sun glasses.
Fashion is big here but not for me! I am the cheap type but Miami has a lot of luxury stores so try not to go crazy
