I am planning a trip to the Miami area next year...2011...do you have any idea when the love bugs are expected to make their appearance and for how long?
Assuming you're talking about the bugs (insects) and not the touristy ones which flock here on their honeymoons throught the year, there are 2 seasons: Late Spring and Summer.
The spring ones run late April - May and summer run late August - September.
We're entering the summer season now.
Only time they are really a bother is when you drive Florida's turnpike and many car owners have invested in radiator covers/grill covers to protect their radiators from clogging up.
Swarms can be quite numerous.
I imagine riding a motorcycle, especially w/out a helmet cannot be much fun either...
Fairchild Gardens is south of Miami near Perrine, but it has a Coral Gables address. The 83 acres gardens were established in 1938 and are among one of the world's best. There are palms, cycads, flowering trees and vines. There are also greenhouses with orchids and other tropical plants.
Hours
Fairchild is open daily from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.
EPCOT CENTER
This park is dedicated to the future, science and space. Here you'll find 360? cinemas, scientific attractions. The huge white ball is a panoramic cinema, where the screen is all around the sferic structure.
The queues in all the pavillions are incredibly long but they make the twist around, so it seems as if they were shorter.
It never occurred to me to care until I was trying to plan a weeks worth of outings for my parents and little brother when they came to visit me here in Miami, so I thought I would share a little insight with families visiting the area. Down here, sun bathing on a public beach either topless or completely without swimwear is the norm. I haven't run into it every time I've been on South or North Beach, but it is definately a possibilitiy.
Well the Miami Grand Prix came and went. Plan to be here next year. The race promoters signed a fifteen year deal, so we will have Miami Grand Prix racing for a while. The race is usually held in September but events have already started. CHeck thei web page for all the fun.

An airboat ride is the way to see Everglades National Park. These passenger boats zoom in between the marshy areas, stopping to look for crocodiles along the way. Its an entertaining tour and the guides provide a great deal of information on the unusual ecosystem of the Everglades. See my Everglades National Park page for more information.
