La Quinta Inn Miami Airport North

Stayed here twice on my recent trip to Florida - one night on the day we flew in, and one night our last night before flying home. This location is very convenient to the Miami Airport (and only about 30 minutes from the Ft. Lauderdale airport), and has several restaurants nearby. The first night, we stayed in their standard room, which was - well, standard. Adequately sized, comfortable bed, coffee maker, and free breakfast.

For our second stay, I used my LQ points to book the room, and we were upgraded to a suite - VERY nice. Large space, with a microwave and mini-fridge, coffee maker, separate seating area (like a living room), and a workspace. This location offers free Wi-Fi, so it would have been perfect if we had brought our computer.

The staff here were very nice and very accommodating. The breakfast is not expansive, but is filling - coffee and juice, toaster waffles, muffins, oatmeal, fruit, and yogurt. If you need more, or something different, the parking lot is shared with a Wendy's and McDonalds, and a 1/2 block walk to a Denny's.

south beach resteraunt suggestion

by barbara_lynne

we will be in miami in january and will be going to south beach on a friday night. any resteraunt suggestions that won't be overly expensive but still have great food and ambiance? Thanks

Re: south beach resteraunt suggestion

I am going to suggest two restaurants that are outside the beach-front area.

Joe Allen Restaurant; 1787 Purdy Ave.; (888) 286-3792
www.joeallenrestaurant.com

We eat there each time we visit Miami Beach. The service the great. I always have the pizza: it is very satisfying.

Another good restaurant in the same neighborhood is
Sardinia Enoteca Ristorante; 1801 Purdy Avenue; (305) 531-2228
www.sardinia-ristorante.com

Great Italian food with great service.

Enjoy!

One suggestion although it's not "fine dining" is the News Cafe. It is however a great spot for people watching. Actualy, it's probabaly better for Sunday morning brunch than Friday night.

Travel Tips for Miami

Old Rickenacker Causeway Bridge

by cristinacfurio

REMOVING TAR FROM YOUR FEET

by Homanded

Ok so, you're strolling along our beaches, early riser, wanting to enjoy the early morning waves...when the beach is at it's calmest.
Sun hasn't fully come up and you're proud of yourself because you passed up that 2am drinking binge so you could totally ZEN out before the crowds get to the beach.

Suddenly, as you're walking along, you notice wads of sand sticking to the soles of your feet and up your ankles. You've stepped on Tar and your feet look like dalmatian's feet! You're meeting your friends in an hour and your pedicure is ruined...

Answer: Mayonnaise...Peanut Butter...Baby Oil. Anything oily or greasy.
Baby Oil is the handiest and fastest way, whatever you do DO NOT USE gasoline. Yes it will work, it may irritate your skin, specially if the person helping you out happens to be smoking a ciggie.

Put the baby Oil on a cotton ball (or paper towel) rub it in the affected area for a couple minutes and Whala! - Tar is no more!)

Cultural Differences

by Astrobuck

Living in Texas, there is a large Spanish-speaking primarily Mexican population. When I arrived in Miami, it was no surprise to me that many people spoke Spanish. What did surprise me, is the fact that even though there are cultural differences within the Miami population (as well as south Florida), they were mixed. Many of the people who spoke Spanish, also spoke English; and visa-versa. Also, many Americans were visiting the Latin-American cuisines, and also visa-versa. It was the best thing I had ever seen, where everyone seemed to be on the same level! The mentality I felt, was that no one was better or worse off than anyone else.

The Travel Slut in Miami during Super Bowl 41

by TheTravelSlut

I took a short trip to Miami, South Beach, and Miami Gardens (where the Miami Dolphins Stadium is) and enjoyed some of the festivities, activities and parties associated with all the hoopla surrounding the Super Bowl.

I arrived in Miami-South Beach on Thursday before Super Bowl Sunday and departed before the game started on Sunday in time enough to watch the game on a big screen TV along with many friends.

The energy in and around Super Bowl events is real. And so are the inflated prices for everything from a hotel room, meal and bottle of water. If you have any favorite team items, bring them from home because while the vendors @ Super Bowl-sanctioned locations will have just about any item you can imagine, it will be relatively expensive.

Versace's Mansion

by Joseph69

The Versace Mansion is where Giovanni "Gianni" Versace lived whilst in Miami. He was battling a rare cancer of the inner ear.

Versace (2/12/1946 – 15/7/1997) was a famous Italian designer of clothing and theatre costumes, albeit he was charismatic and gay. He was influenced by Andy Warhol and of modern abstract art. Versace was considered one of the most talented designers last century (20th Century).

One July morning, after returning from one of his regular walks on Ocean Drive, he was gunned down by Andrew Cunanan. Soon after he killed Giovanni Versace outside of Versace's mansion in Miami, he committed suicide using the same gun he killed Versace with.

The house is locate at the South Beach area of Miami.
