One night in Miami...Airport hotel or other recommendations?

by Gary&BJ

We will be in Miami for one night on our return from Key West. We will have a rental car, so could stay anywhere within an hour of the airport.

What would be your thoughts on a medium range hotel (not exceeding $200) for our last night?

One alternative might be the hotel right in the Miami airport, which would be convenient in the morning for our departing flight? I have not read the best reviews on it, though.

I also read some decent reviews on the Best Western in Kendall. Is that a safe neighborhood? Alittle aprehensive after reading the Miami warnings.
Thanks for your help!

Hmmm...there's a Marriott Courtyard within shouting distance of the airport. Not the best property Marriott operates but it's clean and the staff are very accomodating.

I'm going to give you a few hotels around the airport so you can check availability & rates.

Fairfield Miami Airport South, Miami 305-643-0055
Miami International Airport Hotel, Miami (sorry no phone found anywhere) :(
Marriott Miami Airport: Excellent Airport 305-649-5000

Hope this helps some ! Have a good time. By the way isn't Key West wonderful!!!!

Kendall is a safe bedroom community. If that is the Best Western in South Miami, (5959 SW 71st Street) they claim to have a shuttle to the airport.
You would be safe there.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I am looking at the Marriott Courtyard and the MIA airport hotel. It may be convenient to be right in the airport and drop off the rental car the night before!

Yes, we love Key West. So much so that we got married there 6 years ago!

Are there any hotels IN THE Miami airport?

by fwutfwu

Hi - I was wondering if someone could help! I am traveling to Miami for a cruise with my hubby and 3 kids. We are landing around 8Pm and I need a hotel for one night before we get on the ship. Are there any right in the airport where I don't need to take cabs? Thanks so much!
Heather

I'd suggest getting a place closer to the port than the airport, but there is a hotel right in the airport that would be easily accessible.

I concur with the previous reply: If I were you I'd rather stay closer to the port of Miami than to the AIRport of Miami.

Anyway: It's relatively late in the evening (8PM) when you and your family arrive and you prefer the convenience of a hotel close by.

As the previous poster indicated, there's a hotel directly at the airport. However, pricewise it might by interesting for you to compare prices with other hotels around the airport. Usually all of them have courtesy cabs that bring you free of charge to the hotel.
Check out the prices for example of:
- TownePlace Suites
- Fairfield Inn Miami West (and South)
- Residence Inn
- Courtyard Miami airport
- Marriott Miami airport
- Best Western Miami
Other chains like Travelodge and Days Inn also have hotels with courtesy vans around the airport.

Enjoy your Caribbean cruise!

Oh you're asking for it!
Have you ever stayed in a hotel with 20 or 30 detainees with guards by their doors awaiting expulsion from the country?
How about noise from planes landing nearby every 90 seconds?
How about people arriving at all hours of the night?
No, it's not that bad, but as the previous posters suggest, there are better choices.
A lot of people stay Down Town, across from Bayside, just a stone throw away from the port, the night before their cruise.

Good Luck.

A.

Yep try the Marriot or any other hotel on Biscayne Bay, then when you have checked in go to 'The Bayside' its open until really late and has live music most nights and lots of shops and a food areas as well as some great restaurants and bars including a hard rock cafe.

Travel Tips for Miami

Atlantis Building,

by cobrioc

This building was made famous by the television series Miami Vice. The building was created by Gianni Versace, a world-famous designer who was murdered in his Miami home just a few years ago. The Atlantis Building is found on Bricknell Avenue. Miami Beach, Florida.

Day Trip Suggestion

by pulgaron

For an idea of a day trip from Miami, see my Flamingo page. Nice place to get away from it all for a day. In the heart of the Everglades National Park. An easy 38 miles from the park's entrance. The park is southwest of Florida City on State Road 9336. When you get to SW 344 Street at SW 197th Avenue, you must make a left to continue on 9336. At that very intersection you will find a fruit stand called Robert is Here. Do stop, to experience the best tropical, and exotic fruit shakes in South Florida. Try the Mamey shake, my favorite. The Guanabana is also excellent.

Packing List

by goingsolo

No matter the time of year, always prepare for rain, especially in the summer. Always prepare for heat, even in the winter. It can be in the 80s and humid in December. If you want to visit south beach at night, bring something dressy, but for most places, jeans are ok.

Jungle Cruise

by KaiM

North of Miami is Fort Lauderdale, home of the 'Jungle Queen.' This old boat is used for tourist cruises through the channels of the city. The boat passes by luxury homes and takes a stop at a gator farm where you can see gator wrestling.

Cheap!

by aero198 about Sawgrass Mills

This is a LARGE outlet mall, it's located outside Miami (you've got to drive about 45 minutes to get there), you'll find there brand stores, at very good prices. I specially liked GAP
:) Less than in brand stores in Miami
