Key West Ferry Pricing

by cheryl344

In your online information there are 2 different prices for the ferry boat from Miami to Key West. One says $48.00 per person, 1-way and the other says $138.00 R/T which does not equal $48.00 per person, 1-way. Which one is the correct price?

Re: Key West Ferry Pricing

by puerto_lover

cheryly- the problem you have is that you are looking at TIPS that date back a few years. One tip is dated Feb 2007 and the other even older August 2004.

These Tips are not always UP DATED by the original posters. So they can get stale and tell the wormng story.

I just read somewhere that the Miami - Key West ferry service was no longer offered this year. It seems that it now runs from Fort Myers & Marco Island.

Rent a car in Miami and drive to Key West. The drive over all ove the bridges between the islands is one of the more unique drives in the world.

Puerto is correct, the ferry service is not in operation.
As he suggests, make sure tips are updated or, look up members actually living in Miami.
As the other poster suggests, rent a car and drive.
Be careful, road conditions can get hectice, especially during weekend congestions and particularly, on Sunday evenings when everyone is driving back north into Miami.

Travel Tips for Miami

by tazmaniak

See the Art Deco area of South Beach. Running paralel to the Beach, Ocean Drive between 7th and 14th Streets is a marvellously renovated area with some of the best low-rise art deco architecture I have seen. Bright colours and palm trees make this a real treat. Other great areas are Collins Avenue, Washington Avenue and Lincoln Road Visiting in February when the weather in London is so cold, it was great to get warmth from the sun, swim in the sea and enjoy the outdoor. Althoug, my fondest memory of Miami was buying my new Mountain Bike which I brought back with me!

Coconut Grove

by cobrioc

The site of the first major settlement in the Miami area , Coconut Grove was , for a time
in the 1960's and 70's a big -time bohemian hangout. The town has envolved- if that's the word-into a highly commercialized area. Its main attraction other than the excellent Coconut Grove Playhouse, is now the CocoWalk Shopping center , a stylized shopping mall with some restaurants, shops and cinema.

There are a cople of attraction worth the trip, and a wondeful B&B.
Just next to that B&B is the former home of
Everglades champion marjory Stoneman Douglas, which the city may soon turn into a museum.

Packing List

by pulgaron

I used to see alot of backpacks, but lately that has changed to roller luggage. A bikini or bathing suit. An open mind. Light natural fiber clothes, for during hot days outside. Sun screen is a must. If youre going boating and you tend to get sea sick, bring some dramamine or equivalent. Our photo shops carry just about any equipment you may have forgotten at home. As a matter of fact Miami has excellent prices for photographic equipment. Compare the prices from your home town, I think you will be surprised. In the summer pack mosquitoe repellent, and sun block.

The Oldest House in Dade County

by pulgaron

A unique reflection of Miami's antebellum era, the William Wagner House is the oldest known house in Miami-Dade County. This traditional frontier home was built of hand-hewn lumber with mortise and tenon joints; milled lumber was later added to the exterior. Wagner, one of the area's first permanent residents, operated a sutler's store near the original location of Fort Dallas. In 1979, the building was relocated to Lummus Park, which is also the site of the relocated barracks building from Fort Dallas.

Postcards to Tapestry

by grandmaR about Vizcaya Gift Shop

Vizcaya Gift Shop offers postcards, slides, and videotapes along with Italian craft items such as ceramics, jewelry and tapestries during museum hours. I would have been happy to buy a slide or postcard of the interior of the house, but there were very few available. This was disappointing in view of the prohibition on photography of the interior.

I didn't want to spring for a videotape, and the tapestries and works of art were too expensive for my pocketbook.
