The Avalon hotel
This hotel is clean and located centrally on Ocean Dr. which is in the heart of Miami/South Beach. The hotel people are very friendly and helpful. Not too exspensive very nice
Unique Quality: Pool, great view, clean, staff friendly and good guides.

Great Location, Pretty decent hotel
We stayed here for New Years weekend. It was one of the most affordable hotels, directly on Ocean and that's why we booked it.
The hotel's location is prime for enjoying the heart of South Beach at a decent price. It boasts a bar and restaurant which we did not eat at personally, but it was always jam packed as we were coming and going. It's called A Fish Called Avalon—predominently serving seafood.
Anyway, breakfast each morning is served in the restaurant. A full buffet of cold cuts, cheeses, bagels, breads, fruit, cereal, yogurt and juices. Sustinence, but nothing to write home about.
The rooms are clean, smallish, but nice. Think big, white puffy duvets on the beds and deco furniture. The bathrooms are a tad outdated, but that's Miami for the most part, they do include complementary toiletries.
Note, price reflects staying here on New Years weekend.
Unique Quality: Location. Location. Location. It's cliche but true. Seconds from the beach, tons of great cafes/restaurants and shopping. Located on Ocean and 7th, this place is PERFECT if you arrive by car, the 7th street park house is just one block west, totally safe and affordable.

Nothing Majestic here
I stayed at the Avalon Majestic in May, 2004. The facade of the hotel is beautiful art deco and the restaurant, A Fish Called Avalon, is very good. Once you go past the lobby, however, the hotel is lackluster. The room was small and kind of dreary. There is no pool and the our view was pure crap. The location was good, directly across from the ocean, but there are many nicer hotels.
