Great Value

Came down from Dallas for a short business convention and was very pleasantly surprised. My business partner had stayed here a few weeks ago and recommended the Clinton. This is a very charming hotel; the staff was great, the room was perfect (had a hot on the balcony- nice!), and spent the afternoons on the pool deck having drinks and smoking hookah. I’ll have to be back to spend a little more time here.

Unique Quality: Great Location, Small pool but great area to have drinks well decorated, restaurant on site and concierge service.

Rip Off - I won't Stay Here Again

Have stayed here twice. The first time the restaurant/bar was "under construction" and closed. Second time they were also closed, they told me they were looking for someone to take them over. Ugh. NO food or beverage service at all, of any kind. My second stay found the shower smelling mildewy, I put some lotion on the floor to help the smell, but there was no change and I saw they did not clean the shower at all during housekeeping services.
Second day they did not do housekeeping, no cleanup of the room at all. The pool area was kinda dirty, not attractive.
I booked online for a great rate, with a pre-booking months ahead, however at checkout they said I had not prepaid and the rate was different. RIP OFF CITY. I was unhappy with that and told them, they did nothing about it.
It is a room to stay in, that is all. It's kinda scuzzy. The lobby has a nice look but when you discover there is nothing there - no bar, no room service, no restaurant, no coffee, no newspaper, no vending machine, etc. you realize what you're missing. Plus Washington Ave in this area is kinda grubby overall.
There really is nothing that would get me to stay here again. Bad news.

Great Boutique - rooms with very luxurious touches!

by A TripAdvisor Member

I stayed only one night at this hotel - I was going to stay with a friend the first night in Miami but wanted to see what Priceline could give me for 4 stars under $80 - well I got this hotel, and I was pretty happy!

I arrived there and walking into the lobby I was quite surprised that the photos I had seen were not as good as reality! The very playful, comfortable lobby - with the great quirky flirtatious furniture - small comfy stools, and a great big centerpiece set of stools with a huge lamp shade in the center well above our heads. There is sort of this playful nature about the furnishings - very flirty somehow, furniture you won't see in your grandma's house...it's different but totally works!

The staff was overly gracious, and I met Stefan, the concierge of the hotel who remembered my name ever time I entered or left the hotel. He had many suggestions for things to do and offered his advice on what to do in Miami (my first time there).

The elevator had this really dim lit glow to it - and the hallways also had a playful nature as well. If I remember correctly there were little etchings under the room number outside the room in the figure of a svelte man or woman. The decor and hotel furnishings have this sort of bordello, pin-up burlesque theme to it...which was really unique and lighthearted.

I walked into the room and was shocked! A really good sized room - I'm high maintenance about room size and I totally didn't expect this. It was not enormous but just perfect in size and use of space. Beautiful platform bed with crisp white sheets and Hotel Clinton embossed pillow cases and one of the more comfortable mattresses/down comforters I've slept on; a Sharper Image CD player (don't forget your CDs); spacious closet, venetian blinds, interesting playful art (again playful, fun).

But my favorite part of all in this room - THE BATHROOM: Beautiful bathroom - granite (I think) tile floors, walk in shower that was pretty large, a really terrific vanity/sink area with excellent amenities (I snagged the bars of soap and I NEVER do that); waffle-patterned white robes that were very light and comfortable, huge plush towels. The water pressure wasn't all that but who cares. The colors were done in a very muted earthy way and I wanted to rip that bathroom out and put it into my New York apartment. The mirror could be turned multiple ways, and also you could see into the bedroom from the bathroom (glass portion of the wall, though there was a shade for privacy).

My room faced the street and I heard no noise.

The pool area was small, yes, but always just a few people there - nice chaise lounges for sunbathing, great ambiance at night. The restaurant there had closed down and that stunk because it looked really cute and trendy.

My only bone of contention was that the carpet (though a nice one) in my room had some remnants of the last guest, there were some of those plastic tags from clothing price tags lying around by the door, etc. Nothing major but that was the only blemish to be seen.

My suggestion: the hotel is great, very good best kept secret, good rates, very helpful staff (and did I mention FREE INTERNET ACCESS in the lobby?). 3 minute walk to the beach and many many many beachfront restaurants.

Stay here for a night or two - go to a large resort if you want impersonal service yet with a big crowded pool. No snobbery here - very trendy hotel but with a sense of relaxation that some of the other hotels I saw in South Beach lacked.

A good option in South Beach

Upon check-in, we were offered to upgrade from our "superior balcony room" to a "loft with jacuzzi" for $50, which we accepted, for a total of $209-229 depending on the night. The room was clean and decorated in minimalist style. It opened onto a little patio overlooking a water feature (a shallow expanse of water occupying the courtyard). The jacuzzi was located in the patio. The room was separated from the bathroom by a window, from which a curtain was missing. We called the reception and within 5 minutes, the curtain was replaced. The hotel offers high-speed internet, but no cable was available in the room.
When I called to ask for one, I was told to go to Radio Shack or try at the reception. It turns out that the reception has a drawer full of them. Minuses: - A door to the adjacent room is paper-thin and we could hear every word of our neighbours' conversations. - The AC is extremely loud. - The TV is very small. Pluses: - The staff overall was very pleasant and frequently enquiring if we were happy and needed anything.

I would recommend this hotel, but not for the $280 that another reviewer paid. Also, it is a matter of choice, but if you are in South Beach, try to get a hotel with a large pool. The Clinton's is the size of a pool...table.

Great Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have recently returned from a 2-week holiday to Florida and stayed at the Clinton for 2 nights in May 2004. The hotel is in a great location (easy walking distance to pubs/restaurants/beach) and is very well maintained. All the hotels are pricey in this part of Miami, but we felt the price reflected staying in a trendy, safe, hotel in this very popular area. Our room was a good size and modern - I was expecting small rooms from various reports I've read about Miami hotels..... The Reception staff were very welcoming, and the service very responsive when required (we had a minor drain blockage - we phoned Reception and someone was with us within 5 minutes). I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

It was a good deal

I stayed there in December 2001.

1. It is a BLOCK off Ocean Drive!!!!! towards the resorts
2. My friend and I were able to walk in
3. $40 for the night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Granted, this was right after the WTC stuff, but I was slack-jawed when we got a hotel basically on the beach for less than $50.

The hotel could be a little nicer, but all we were looking for was a place to crash.
