Miami Beach danger? Where did you read all of that? Maybe you watch too much TV ;-) you should go and see. OK, maybe I was there long time ago but I had no problems to hang around there also late at night and when needed to get back to the hotel I just took a cab which is very affordable.
Miami down town I am not so sure how is that at night, was ok during the day for shopping etc, but like in any place, be sure where you hangout at night. I know few neighbourhoods in Stockholm that my friends would not hang out either, especially with the tb.

Just use your common sense and you will be OK. I just been in Johannesburg last summer and that place rank high in the world in crime rate, so I feel so safe these days where ever I go ;-)
Travel Tips for Miami Beach
Though many envision the wild...
by richiecdisc
Though many envision the wild nightlife of Miami Beach, what really made this place popular are the numerous outdoor cafes where you can sit and leisurely have a coffee or cocktail all the while people watching. Not one to go to South Beach unless I have company in town, the funniest time was when my sister came down with her twenty-year-old daughter a couple years ago. Of course, my niece had to see South Beach, as she was an aspiring model. Her grandparents relented to take her and my sister down in their luxury car while I later came down with my brother and his wife in the Civic. Once my niece realized what a rip off all the boutiques were, shopping gave way to some cafes, and my parents were not surprisingly ready to head home before the rest of us. Off they went in the big car, leaving the five of us for a bit of a frolic in the Art Deco district. I grew bored of this and made them walk over to my favorite watering hole in Miami called The Abbey, a funky wooden affair with church pews for seats and a beer list to die for. After a few beers, they dragged me out of there and back over to South Beach proper before heading back to Ft. Lauderdale. Back at the car, we realized that now we’d have to squeeze five people into my little Civic. The girls all piled in the back, my sister surely not having been in the rear of a car that small in who knows how long. Soon the discomfort was forgotten as we laughed and sang our way back to the real world and left neon clad South Beach behind.
Happy Hour
by vanessadb
On Friday afternoons, people tend to get off work early (or not) and head to happy hour. It is the time to forget about your week and start your weekend. It is mostly an excuse to party and drink of course. Almost every bar has happy hour specials, meaning two drinks for the price of one for example.
Then there are also the trendy places that don't need to have these specials to pack up, such as Segafredo's (1040 Lincoln Rd on South Beach) an outside European looking terrace. Their drinks are expensive, but here it's all about to see and mostly be seen!
South Beach
by Hexepatty
South Beach is the lower 1/3 of Miami Beach. Only about 30,000 people live here, mostly in pretty little Art Deco condos less than 4 stories tall. In 1980 the average age was 66, now it has dropped to 42. The real action takes place on Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive, each of which is packed with cafes, galleries, models, boutiques, artists, and portable phones.
