South Beach to Orlando - Travel

by Mets100

Hello,

I am just enquiring about the different ways you can travel up to Orlando from South Beach without the use of a rental car... Are there methods of public transport or any coaches that you could recommend?

Also, how long does it take to travel to Orlando. We are looking to take a day trip up there to Universal Studios....

Let me know! Many thanks x

I'm not a local but have been there many times and it really is a 'drive your own car' kind of area. Rental cars are generally quite cheap in Florida. There may be public transportation you could use but I'm betting it's much less convenient and takes more time that a rental. And the one way trip is over 200 miles/over 3 hours by car, so it would be impossible to do it as a day trip unless you only spent a few hours at Universal which, for the price they charge to get in, would be crazy, in my humble opinion.

That is a tough trip in one day, and to enjoy it. I just returned from sobe where there are plenty of daily trips by bus to orlando. But, make sure the tickets to universal are included and how much time you really have in Orlando

Thanks guys you have been really helpful. After much deliberating we decided there is not enough time to go upto Orlando just for one day plus it is expensive (and I've been to Universal b4!). We'll just concentrate on all there is to do down in the South. Thanks loads xxxx

Travel Tips for Miami Beach

Go roller blading!

by Weener

Rollerblading on Ocean Drive! It just HAS to be done! Everyone does it. It’s the coolest form of transport on South Beach, if you don’t have a convertible sports car of course! Blades can be rented from the hut on 14th Street beach for $9 an hour (at time of writing this article), which includes all the much needed extra padding for knees, hands and head! Its hard work on first attempt, but you soon get the hang of it. Luckily Ocean Drive has a wall all the way along South Beach, so you can grab onto it when you are first starting out!!

Rollerblading on the strip

by vanessadb

If you know how to rollerblade, there is a nice boardwallk along the beach perfect for that. You thus won't alone but will be able to encounter all types of characters... some very funny ones too!

You'll also be able to enjoy beautiful views of the art deco buildings of the strip....

The pricey stuff is located on the beach

by goingsolo

There are trendy shops on Washington Avenue, Ocean Drive and even Collins Ave on South Beach. But the prices are way up. For better deals, hit a shopping mall (Aventura in N. Miami Beach or Dadeland or the Falls in South Miami.) too much

late night dancing

by Shaft28 about Crobar

Just a few blocks from the main strip and over by 15th or 17th or so you can find a hotspot Crobar.
The rub- to get in you need to be there before 11pm as it is too crowded. But we went and at 10:40 is still was 30 minutes from opening...
Expect to start late and wait in line, best bet.
Fun spot, lots of tourists and locals.
We enjoyed ourselves, just watchout on the drink prices. Expensive here. no jeans, sneakers or shorts

Taxi Rate to SOuth Beach

by pulgaron

If you land at Miami International Airport, the cab fare should be a flat rate of $28.00. Do not let the cabbie turn on the meter. If you are driving from the mainland to the beach see my Venetian Causeway travel logue.
If your are going to saty at the beach only, you can pretty much walk every where in SOBE. For traveling a bit further scooters are very popular. If you are going back to explore the mainland or north beach, better to rent a car.
