Well located and good priced hotel

Nice hotel, with good pool area and access to the beach. Rooms have air conditioning which is a bonus when it's hot. Staff were friendly too. During the time we stayed, they had given access to a TV crew to film in the pool area, which meant that we couldn't enjoy the area for most of the day. Very inconvenient! Otherwise, all OK. Good location as it's only a 3 minute walk to the main part of Ocean Drive, and generally a little quieter.

More about Savoy Hotel

First Class!

by TripAdvisor Member Valgate

Wow! When I first found this place randomly on-line, it seemed to fill all of my requirements: quiet, small and directly on the beach for a reasonable price. Well, it met and went far beyond my expectations -- My 15-year-old daughter and I went on her "Spring Break" for 4 days of sun and Cuban food and we would not hesitate to do it all again, but stay longer. The staff, the location (we could see cruise ships leaving the port from our bed!!), the beach -- all of it just terrific. We felt like we were in Europe as the other guests were mostly foreign and sophisticated with older children. It was delightful. One day a quick storm blew in while we were getting lunch at a deli across the street and the poolman ran out and rescued all of our things off of the beach so they would not get drenched. Above and beyond the call of duty. The suite (almost too big for the two of us!) was immaculate and elegant. Also, for those who enjoy breakfast, the lobby is full of muffins, coffee, juice(though curiously no orange!), bagels, cereal, etc. in the a.m.s. Enjoy your meal outdoors by the pools -- just beautiful. Take the tray from your room that holds the ice bucket and carry your breakfast goodies out onto the deck overlooking the ocean and drink in the breezes, or sit on another porch in the teak rockers and relax! I just can't say enough --
Also, the hotel is a perfect distance from the craziness (there if you wanted it but not noisy at night). Enjoyed great food at Gloria Estefan's restaurant Larios and random meals at News Cafe, both down the street. Joe's Stone Crab a short walk, too. Took a shuttle (caught it several blocks away) for a quarter, all the way to Lincoln Rd. for fun shopping and another huge selection of restaurants. Can't say enough good stuff about this trip and this hotel. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Loved the Savoy

by A TripAdvisor Member

Loved the Savoy...This was an excellent trip for us. My husband and I decided relatively last minute to take a short vacation to just relax, eat, and drink. We used this website to figure out exactly where we wanted to stay. We had been to South Beach several times before and stayed at the Pelican, Penguin, and The Loews. Although we enjoyed all the other hotels we truly loved the Savoy. We wanted a pool and beach and we got both of these for a reasonable price. The room was great with a good size bedroom, bathroom, and large living room area with kitchenette. We also had two small balconies where we would sit out after a long day lying at the beach and have a few drinks. The Savoy was also great for it's location. You were close enough to all the hotspots but far enough away for rest and relaxation. Every night we went up to Ocean Drive. We also walked up to Lincoln Road and enjoyed ourselves very much at Touch. Excellent restaurant for steaks. In addition to an excellent location the Savoy had really friendly and courteous staff. Everyone was very eager to provide assistance. We also found the continental breakfast to be very nice. Each morning we would take our breakfast to the pool patio and eat outside. The food was just enough to satisfy your hunger without overeating. Overall, we would give this hotel an excellent rating and would recommend it to anyone.

Beware - which room you get makes all the difference!

by TripAdvisor Member Elaronndy

We stayed one night at the Savoy Hotel and have to say it has a great location at the south end of Ocean Drive directly on South Beach - one of the few hotels where you can lay on the sun deck and see the ocean. However, it would seem there are great variations on the quality and type of rooms. There appeared to be some nice rooms with pool or ocean view. Unfortunatley, we didn't get one! We pre-booked and pre-paid $160 and our room was very disappointing, it smelt of mould, it was dark and it overlooked the next-door condo block and the parking lot. We asked to move and they said it wasn't possible - but the hotel certainly wasn't full. The staff were not exactly rude, but certainly indifferent. The 'continental breakfast' was a joke - it consisted of a table in the foyer where they put coffee in thermos', dry bagels and cereals. Everything was styrofoam and plastic and then you had to struggle with everything in one hand to grab a table by the pool. We heard later they were in the process of being 'bought out'. I hope the new owners are able to turn around this rather seedy hotel - it has great potential.

Stay away from the older building!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Whatever you do DON'T stay in the older building. Me and my boyfriend got a room in the older part of the hotel, it was the worst. There was an old bed old chairs and the windows were so dirty you could not see through them. (Get a room in the building the front desk is located). When we went into the room first thing we noticed was the A/C was broken. The handy man came to fix it, but three hours later it stopped working again. He tried once more and the front desk called to say it can't be fixed. We were so happy they swiched us to the newer building, or we would have rather slept on the beach. The room we were swiched to was very nice, it was clean and looked new. We even got a small balconey overlooking the pool. Aside from the first room we were in, the pool area is beautiful, very quiet and relaxing. If you want ice good luck, every time we asked for ice it took about one hour, they were VERY slow. Would stay again ONLY in the new building.

Warning-Website pictures of the rooms are FALSE

by A TripAdvisor Member

The FEW positives-Good location, quiet out of the noisy scene, beautiful clean pools, and great access to the beach....Negatives- TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED and shocked by the room we got, NOTHING at ALL like the website, the website is FALSE information, we had a room in the blding where the front desk was -chairs & sofabed were torn, stains on floors, dirty ugly curtains, we got a smaller bed than requested & the pull out couch had a metal bar poking out of it & most annoyingly it was a totally diff style/decor than the website shows, our room faced the parking lot, street & blding next door, when I asked to be relocated, they said they had no rooms available & it seemed like the hotel was empty. Horrible customer service. It was more of a 2 star than 4 start hotel. ALSO, the gym was CRAP...very small, had about 4 pieces of equipment that were from the 1970s at least so don't plan to work out, plus they were rusty and old...If you are looking for ZERO scene at the pool, you have chose the right place...the bartender was M.I.A & there is NO pool or beach service for cocktails..Lastly, they don't tell you this until you get there, but on top of staying in a crappy room, you have a room charge for using the towels & beach chairs at the pool & beach..It should of been included in the rate...South Beach's weather in early May is key. Next time I will be staying at the Delano.

Good Value

by A TripAdvisor Member

We visited in mid June, 2004 for 5 days during the week. We booked an internet special, and based on some of the reports, I was a little concerned. Our room was in the original Savoy building, a two room suite facing the pool. The room was great, the pool was great, the beach was great, and the service was great. This is an excellent value considering how expensive the So Beach area is. It is a quieter area than much of ocean drive is and it is easy to get to. This is an older hotel that has been remodeled so keep price and value in perspective. I recommend it!

We Loved It

by A TripAdvisor Member

We really enjoyed the Savoy Hotel. We were there June 16 - 19. The rooms were nice and roomy, and the beds were really comfortable. The pools are really nice! and the beach access was easy. The staff was nice and willing to help. The location was great. It was close to all the clubs and restaurants. We loved it there and we would go back!

Lumpy Bed!!

by TripAdvisor Member Alice9940

We are Miami residents and recommended this hotel to friends (a family with small children) who were visiting from England. We were so embarassed! When our friends checked in, they discovered the king-size bed was extremely lumpy. You could actually see a large dip in the matress through the down comforter. When they requested a room change, staff was rude and unhelpful. They loved South Beach in general and want to come back, but not to this hotel!

Great location....decent hotel

by TripAdvisor Member sos1973

I just spent 3 nights at The Savoy....The location is superb....it @ 100 yards away from the Friday's on Ocean.....Close enough to walk to the shopping district and various restuarants on Ocean YET far enough out of the way so that you avoid most of the hustle.
MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT ROOM YOU ARE IN PRIOR TO BOOKING.....I booked via Hotels or Travelocity and received the "run of the house" room. Horrible!! No balcony....the carpet was dirty and the couch was shameful.
If I were there with a bunch of guys on a golfing trip....the room would have been decent at best.
I upgraded to an ocean front room (additional $400!!!).....those rooms are the ones you see on the website.
I would recommend using a travel agent or booking a room yourself...that way, you KNOW what you are getting.
Do not book with online travel companies that give you no choice in room types.......you will be placed in one of those god foresaken "run of the house" rooms.......or "The Frat Room".
I would give The Savoy 3.5 stars out of 5.
