4 Star Service without 4 Star Prices

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 23, 2008

The Hotel is by far not the most expensive hotel on the strip, nore is it the cheapest. If you're looking for luxury, you won't find it here, but everything seems clean and taken care of. If you're looking for a room in a great location with good food and drink, a nice pool and lounge area, then this might be the one for you.

Unique Quality: A direct access to the beaches, a nice pool, palm garden with lush tropical foliage. Although the $22 a day parking fee made a noticeable dent in the budget, you'll save at least that much with the complimentary breakfast which included the traditional continental items and juices plus cold cuts (cheese, salami, ham). But perhaps the best thing about the location is the fact that you can walk from your rooms barefoot to the pool, then across the walkway to the beach.

South Seas Hotel – Miami Beach Florida (USA)

South Seas Hotel is situated in a great position on Collins Street just next door to The National Hotel and up market Sagamore Hotel. Restaurants and cafes are just two blocks away in famous Lincoln Street. The hotel is on the oceanfront and has a lovely pool area that leads onto the hammock area and then directly to the beach. We booked this hotel on the internet and our rate was higher than direct booking. It was cheaper than most other hotels in the same area which offered particularly the same sort of accommodation. Our room 237 had two very small art deco windows that looked onto the pool area. King size bed, working desk, small table and chairs, adequate bathroom although small. Hairdryer, room service, telephone, internet connection, air-conditioning.

PROS: Excellent position to beach and restaurants. Good value. Lunch time menu terrific – remember to try shrimp pesto salad with a margarita! Staff friendly and helpful. Clean rooms, lift, roomy swimming pool and modern timber deck chairs. Towels and deck chairs provided at beach for $10.00 per piece. Safe with 24 hours security. Gym and hammocks. Two lifts.

CONS: No balcony (Art Deco building) so not modern. No coffee or tea facilities. No fridge or mini bar but ice and room service provided. Carpet in corridors and room needed up-dating. Bar closes 11.00pm – opens 11.00am. Breakfast ordinary – plastic cups and plates.

Recommendation: Yes – but after viewing the National Hotel next door which was a fabulous elegant Art – Deco Hotel with original and furniture with bar and restaurant opening late and not to mention the absolutely fabulous lap swimming pool surrounded by tropical palm trees. I would have definitely stayed here after inquiring about rates which were cheaper than South Seas. (Checked rates on National via internet $247 – up USD) so rates quoted to us on sight were US$135.00. Probably better to just front – up and get best deals. (www.nationalhotel.com)
