Vacation on Thanksgiving

by Kevinst2008

Hey Community,

i have been living in Michigan for 1 year now as I moved over from Germany.
I just booked a flight to Miami for Thanksgiving (Thu til Mon) with another german buddy.

Unfortunately we do not know that area very well so i am hoping to get some advice in this forum.

First of all. Here is a short description of what we are into:
We are both 21 and 25 years old and are a lot into rather "extreme" sports like kite boarding, paragliding or jetsking.
Furthermore we love hanging out in great clubs and bars.
We prefer clubs that a lot of openminded people use to go to as we would love to meet people.

We dont have a hotel for the nights.. only a car. So we are pretty independent and can drive wherever we want to.

Therefore my question is:

1. What places do you advice to have a look at?
2. What great sport possibilities does Miami (or Florida) offer?
3. What are the best clubs / bars / etc. to meet new people

Thank you very much,
Kevin

Hey kevin, I used to live just outside of Miami. I actually went to school in Fort Lauderdale and worked in Miami, so I know the area pretty well. South Beach is a definite must. If you want to me some people you should definitely hit south beach. At the same time Riverwalk in fort lauderdale has a TON of bars and clubs close together. So I would recommend going to both. Fort Lauderdale is about 30 miles north of Miami, just take I-95 north to Broward Boulevard and go East and you will find Downtown fort lauderdale.

For Sports I found that Fort Lauderdale Beach has plenty to do. I have rented jet skis from this site before: http://www.splashwatersport.com/index.html
If you mention the website you get an extra 10% off.

Definetly stay in the South Beach area, if it's too expensive Miami Beach.

Thank you guys for your answers!

Do you have more popular streets with great clubs and bars on it?

Besides that - what are the best places to go shopping for the holidays?

Where exactly in South Beach do you recommend to go?

THANK YOU!

Collins Avenue is the place I used to go (for South beach). There are tons of bars and clubs on that road. Like Pedmar said, Las Olas is a great place on Fort Lauderdale, it is RIGHT on the beach and there are great places in there. Just a tip, if you are out late on las Olas and get hungry, look for Primanti Brothers pizza, it is a 24 hour pizza place and it definitely hits the spot at 4 am.

Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive are the main hotspots in South Beach

Hit up South Beach.. it's the place to be.. Kiteboarding is popular south of 5th street as there are not many beach goers down there. There are also jet skis for rent. All the bars along lincoln rd are great for meeting people.. I always stay at the shelborne hotel but I book the room through private owners. They call their condo Luc's Miami Getaway. Their website is www.lucsmiamigetaway.com if you want to check them out. Cheezy name but really Nice Room and cheap. Snorking/diving is also great off the jettie at 5th and ocean. Lauderdale has some good extreme sports too.. Maybe spend a few days in each city.. Good Luck.

This is the Versace Mansion where he was murdered on the front step on July 15th 1997. For some people it is a morbid curiosity, for me it is admiring an awesome residence. The medusa heads adorn the iron gates surround this mansion, as is his famous Greek pattern he used on most of his mens clothing designs. I was lucky enough to gain entrance to this amazing estate, finding out that the house is now an exclusive members only private facility with annual club dues in the range of 30,000 with every visit being an additional 3 or 4 thousand. The membership is by invitation only. Sorry about the boarded up windows, the pics were taken when Hurricane Ivan was off the coast of Jamaica.

The Wolfsonian

by agarcia

If you want to include some culture in your SoBe experience, the Wolfsonian Foundation will not disappoint you. Apart from the attractive permanent collection (mainly industrial design from the early 20th century), it usually holds interesting temporal exhibitions. During my visit, for example, there was an exposition about propaganda posters during the Spanish civil war.

By the way, if you happen to be a gadget fan (like myself) you will find very interesting the museum shop. ;-)

A must avoid

This place is loud and boring. The only good thing is that ladies were comped before midnight on a Friday, so we didn't have to pay to find this out. There's loud and there's ear-shattering. The music in this place had already gone beyond ear-shattering and was heading towards ear-bloodletting. You know when the months-old "Jenny on the Block" is the best thing being played, it's time to leave.

Trying to find out what club to go?

Having a hard time finding their web-site?

Well here are the links to quite a few.
But please realize clubs come and go.
