Live Music

by Lena26

Hi,
My husband and I will be in South Beach at the end of April--we love cuban/jazz music and would appreciate getting recommendations on places to visit.
Thanks!

Re: Live Music

One of the only places on South Beach with live music every night is called Jazid (1342 Washington Ave). You can check out their website jazid.net to see what kind of music they have on the nights you will be there, but it is always jazzy and always incredible. there is an upstairs with a dj as well for a change of music. There is no cover charge sunday-thursday, and the weekend is $10 (if you say you are local they waive it usually). Drinks can be pricey though (it is south beach). Average $8 a drink.

i should've been more specific--suggestions on places in other parts of Miami would also be appreciated.

Travel Tips for Miami Beach

The Rooster

by Gypsystravels

As we were walking around Lincoln Road trying to find a place to eat, we happen to notice this rooster at an outdoor cafe perched on a chair having a drink (water) on a hot sunny day!

Apparently he's a fixture in Miami Beach and was accompanied by his owner who was enjoying a lunch at an outdoor cafe.

Later on, as we were having our lunch, we caught a glimpse of the rooster perched on his owner's bicycle handle-bars riding along Lincoln Road. He looked like a stuffed animal, didn't even move, such a well behaved a"cock"It was quite interested to watch them going about their daily business.

Great waterfront shopping and relaxing

by Dutchnatasja about Bayside Marketplace

This semi-outdoor mall has many chain stores like Banana Republic, Gap, Victoria Secrets and the Disney store, many tourist t-shirt and souvenir shops, and lots of local boutiques. Bayside is in a very nice setting on the waterfront.

There are many restaurants where you can eat and where you can enjoy a beautiful waterfront view of Biscayne Bay. From Italian to Cuban, seafood to steaks, it’s hard to choose.

You can have a fruity tropical drink from a stand in the centre of the water-facing side of the market. Relax and enjoying, do some shopping. It’s a great way to spend your afternoon. A whole day is something to much for me. I’ve seen it all in about 2 hours.

For shopping, or just a lunchtime stop, I highly recommend you try the Bayside Marketplace. Many local sightseeing cruises leave from ports nearby.

Just look for the 60 foot guitar above the Hard Rock Cafe, and you know you have arrived.

Bar at Smith & Wollensky

by sue_stone about Bar at Smith & Wollensky

One night during our stay in Miami we had drinks and dinner with Alex's Aunt and her husband, who live locally. They had chosen somewhere really nice to have dinner, and were keen to get there early for a drink. When we arrived, I could see why, as this was one special bar.

Part of Smith & Wollensky restaurant, the bar is located right by the water. The 'water' is actually the Government Cut shipping channel, and we arrived just in time to watch numerous large cruise ships heading off on Caribbean adventures.

The bar area is quite large, with some seating, room to sit or stand at the bar, and also a grassed area where you can mingle by the water. We pulled up a couple of seats at the bar and enjoyed the early evening sun.

We had been warned that mixed drinks were served very strong...and that was no lie.. I had a Gin & Tonic that must have been 85% gin! There was a cocktail menu and large wine selection, along with all of the usual mixed drinks and beer.

It was a perfect place to unwind after a long day, catch up on family gossip and watch the cruisers depart. There was a mix of day time casual and more formal evening wear, so take your pick.

I think that the best way to...

by Zoe_bcn

I think that the best way to get around Miami is to take a taxi or to rent a car, because the transport is not good.

SoBe is far from Dowtown Miami and of course there are buses but I think that the best it's to rent a car ( I think that is not expensive to do it!)
