Great Budget hotel/ Hostel~
I rarely stay in a hotel while in Miami, but when I do, I surely come here~
It's modest, charming, good looking and has the basic ammenities you SHOULD expect from an American Hostel~
I would'nt stay *too* long~ but it's a great option in the clutch!
Unique Quality: Centrally Located on the beautiful Española Way, Key access, Kitchen, Nice courtyards, nice rooms~ Great food, internet and attractions close by.. 3 blocks from the beach~

Cheapest hotel in south beach
Nestled on the corner of quaint Española Way and bustling Washington Avenue, The Clay Hotel is a jewel among places to stay in the Historic Art Deco District of Miami Beach.
Twenty-four hours a day,you can step throughFrench doorsonto the cool terracotta floor staffed front desk- The same desk that's been there since 1925. Apparantly.
Came in very handy for location, cost, ability to ride the bus around the beach and to downtown and ultimately the airport, TV in rooms and aircon
Unique Quality: Great location, in spanish locale, friendly staff and easy to deal with, not far from local shops, bus links and within 5 mins walk of the beach

Simply Great!
If you are the type of traveller that travels for the place rather than the hotel then this is the place for you. It's very basic. Average price a night is $75. A standard room with private bath has a mini fridge which is great for those on a budget and would like to store drinks and food. The hotel is on a cute street called Espinola Way. It closes on the weekends for art, crafts, jewellery, book and clothing sales. Also, it is 1 block away from the beach and night life. Or you can create your own nightlife. Bring a bottle of wine, a blanket, some munchies, head on over to the beach and you got a party! If you are looking for luxury then this is NOT the place for you. But if you are more interested in spending your money on restaurants and shopping than The Clay Hotel is the right place for you.

Clay's the best
I've stayed at the Clay several times and will be back there in a month. I love this hotel.
They have a hostel part too but we only did that once, the private rooms aren't that much more expensive.
It's so wonderful located that we've never needed a car and it's only a few minutes from the beach. Storage lockers can be rented and they have luggage storage too which is so helpful.

Good base
A few blocks from Miami beach (3 minute walk), nice rooms. Right outside is lots of shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants - so you won't go hungry. The staff are friendly and the area is spot on (perfect).
Unique Quality: Share a room with a large bed and it's even cheaper. Rooms have T.V. with some cable channels, air conditioning (of sorts), a refridgerator (to store all your cold meals!!!), laundry facilities outside (a good meeting and drinking point), internet access (though not particularly cheap) and a good atmosphere.

Well -located, inexpensive place to stay
This Spanish-style, recently refurbished hotel which also has a hostel was recommended to me by a co-worker and it is an exceptional value in a prime location. I was quite happy with it and it provided me with everything I needed. Throughout this hotel ,there are beautifully painted murals and the rooms are really cute. TV with HBO,a safe, hairdryer, airconditioning, and a decent size fridge (great to store water and soft drinks) are in all the private rooms. The hotel also provides the internet and laundry facilities.
The hostel rooms are about $15/night. I stayed in a private double room with a private bath for $50/night. If you pay for 6 nights, your 7th night is free.
Unique Quality: The lobby provides info on how to take the bus, train etc. to the points of interest in the Miami area. This was very helpful to me. There was also a list of 15 inexpensive things to do in South Beach which offered some nice suggestions.
If you are looking for a well located, decent, funky place to stay in South Beach without breaking your wallet, than this is the place for you. If you want to order room service and have chocolates on your pillow, then you should choose somewhere else.

The Clay Hotel & Hostelling...
The Clay Hotel & Hostelling International.
$15/17 for dorms, $50-80 for private rooms.
Unique Quality: Great location right by Espanola Way, and all the buzzing nightlife of Washington Avenue. I didn’t look inside, but from the outside it looked fine.

Perfect hotel in South Beach for budget travelers!
We stay at the Clay every time we come to Miami, as we find it to be the perfect value. When you plan to come to Miami to go to south Beach, to spend your days at the beach, and to spend your money at the nice restaurants and clubs as well as shopping till you drop, the Clay is the ideal option. Its location is central, yet quiet on a charming pedestrian side street, Española Way, walking distance to Ocean Drive, Lincoln road, and the South Beach scene in general. Their standard double rooms are located a bit further down Española, which provides you with quiet. The rooms are absolutely nothing special, the beds are twin size, a closet, a TV, and a private small bathroom. Everything is old but everything is clean and for the price you pay, it's worth it (68$ per night in low season)!! Do bring beach towels as the hotel does not provide you with it, as well as a hairdryer. The clay hotel is basic, and a great value for budget travelers. If you're looking for luxury stay away from the Clay!!!
Unique Quality: Located in the heart of South Beach, blocks away from the beach, the restaurants, the clubs, and yet in a pedestrian quiet side street, the Clay is affordable and a great way to meet people. The perfect option for budget travelers, who prefer to spend their holiday money in other ways!

Staying at The Clay Hotel in November
I am staying at the Clay Hotel for several days in November. Should I get a car since this is not exactly on the beach? I want to enjoy the night life of South Beach and eat as some nice restaurants. Is the beach that is two blocks from there nice?
Re: Staying at The Clay Hotel in November
Yes the beach near the clay is nice but it is 3-4 blocks away. A car is really not needed if you are staying in sobe, going to the beach, eating locally. There are great restaurants next to the Clay, it is called esplanade place. Also, one of the best delis outside of NYC is a block away, it is called Jerrys. Ocean Dr
has many great restaurants which are outside and the entire street is hoping at night. Have fun.
Re: Staying at The Clay Hotel in November
Thanks for the reply Naples. Im really looking forward to the trip.
Re: Staying at The Clay Hotel in November
And 11th Dinner is not far (Washington avenue).
I suggest also Big Pink which further (157 Collins) but at a walking distance.
