best pool bar

While staying at the Raleigh you'll spend some quality time in the pool. Whether in the pool or out on their private beach sunning the attendants at the Pool bar take care of you with powerful good drinks.
Best margaritas and mojitos in town. Also the most expensive, but hey you only live once.

Unique Quality: I'm wet from swimming, why yes I'll have another...

Art Deco style and great service

Beautiful location right on the beach. Amazing pool with a pool side bar with gracious attendants. Old school style of rooms with all the modern conveniences. Great food, drinks and service - all at a prety hefty price if you can take it.
Truly an oasis compared to the jungle of hotels on the main strip 3 blocks away. Even has an outdoor gym that goes mostly unused but has everything you need.
Rooms range from $195 (I think) on up. Oceanside rooms, not suites, at $300 a night.

Unique Quality: The pool, filmed in many old Ester Williams films and others as well. Great restaraunt, unbelieveable staff.

More about The Raleigh Hotel

hip crowd on the right night

by Shaft28 about Tiger Oak Room

Inside the wonderful Raleigh Hotel is the hip Tiger Room. A restraunt and bar (more latter as the night goes on) that is very cool.
Expensive but large in proportion and booze content drinks, best of all we could charge to the room.
Enjoyed many evenings here when it was croweded and quiet. No jeans, sneakers or shorts.

Top Cocktails

by AimeeQ about Raleigh Hotel

Over the years, this has remained my all-time favorite spot for cocktails in Miami Beach. It's a very nice hotel with a comfortable lobby bar/lounge and a gorgeous pool area that stretches to the beach where they have a fire pit. The service is friendly and the cocktails were quite good the last time I was there. The decor is pure 1940's glamour inside and tropical hide-away outside. Also, it's not a bus station like the Delano. I think it's still a bit of a "best kept secret" and, overall, it has more low-key vibe than some other nightlife spots. They do serve dinner too, although I haven't eaten there. They cater to tourists, so it seems pretty flexible. However, the Miami Beach nightlife dress code is halter tops, skinny jeans or mini skirts and spikey heels for women and oversized but nicely tailored button-down shirts and nice jeans for men. Flashy and expensive looking.

Purdy Lounge
A new addition to...

by fga

Purdy Lounge
A new addition to the bar scene Purdy Lounge is a small, dark boîte where some of the town's hippest kids hang. Far from the bombastic, techno-driven frenzy of Washington Avenue, Purdy is hidden away on the western border of the Beach, providing a perfect cover for the nightly frolics that ensue. A pool table, mismatched cozy couches, and assorted chilling spaces add to the feeling of a frat party gone extremely hip. Drinks are reasonable as the town goes, and everybody is just letting loose and having a good time, with a minimum of attitude. That, combined with everyone's great good looks, makes this a new Beach fave.

THE GO-GO '60s RETURN
Pearl
One of South Beach's chicest new restaurant-cum-lounges is Pearl, a wildly hued, orange-and-white happening that brings the best of the Barbarella era into the new century. Since its opening in November, Pearl has hosted Miami's most notable nightcrawlers, who come for the forward-looking menu (we love the angus filet with the two-potato and Gruyere pave, as well as the grilled Copper River salmon), and stay for the hip vibe that happens when the DJ takes over from the chef. Most importantly, everyone looks brilliant and tanned in the orange glow, as if they have been sunbathing all day downstairs at Nikki Beach Club.
There is a door policy, so dress should be sexy and stylish
One Ocean Dr.; tel. 305/538-1231

THE LATEST HOTSPOT
320
With the career demise of erstwhile nightlife king/gangland associate Chris Paciello, 1999's hotspot Bar Room has been transformed by promoter/club veteran Michael Capponi into 320, now the most luxe and packed of South Beach's dance-club venues. A new grand staircase bisects the VIP area, allowing revelers to scope out the glam comings and goings of the smart set, and a small food menu and numerous balconies and nooks add to the scene. Soon, Capponi intends to mount full-scale nocturnal pageants, such as a massive Trojan Horse wheeled into the club that spews forth a bevy of sexy dancers. It's sure to be Celeb Central for the coming season.
The door policy is what one would expect: Dress properly, come with sexy people, and be prepared to spend money.
320 Lincoln Rd., 305/672-2882

BOUDOIR SEXINESS
B.E.D.
Though it serves food, B.E.D. is really one of South Beach's more elaborate and sensual nightlife options. Patrons recline in large beds situated around the walls and in the center of this minimal space, which also has curtains for dalliances and private flashes of skin. The DJs are among the town's best. Wednesdays are especially hot and frenzied, while Recovery Sundays feature more ambient music and a cooler vibe. The regular Pajama Parties—you can imagine how flimsy those garments can be—are South Beach at its most hedonistic.
The door policy can be tricky; look good and be prepared to spend money. Reservations also help
929 Washington Ave., tel. 305/532-9070

LOUNGE LUXE
Lola
One of South Beach's most secret destinations, Lola is an ultracool lounge that adds a note of civilized maturity to an otherwise too frenzied club scene. Named after a 20-year-old institution in Tel Aviv, the Miami outpost features an immense bar that dominates the space, complete with stools that seat up to four (conversation with strangers is encouraged). Concrete floors and white draperies mix with white-leather-padded bed/lounges on which the hip clientele reclines. The music is ambient, the cocktails strong, and the vibe smooth.
No door policy, but everyone is usually dressed for an evening out
247 23rd St.; tel. 305/695-8697

THE CLUB TO BEAT
Level
After the demise of last season's celebrated Bar Room, Level has become the club to beat in a hotly competitive nightlife scene. Located in what is arguably the best disco space in town, Level greets patrons with a soaring deco lobby, staircase, and bar, which both prepares one for the throbbing tribal beat of the dance floor and serves as a respite when things in the next room get too frenzied. Throughout are sofas and secret nooks for sexy rendezvous. I always go upstairs to check out the dance-floor action from a more elevated perspective.
Dress up, meaning chic but casual-not business attire. Everyone is usually admitted. No shorts.
1235 Washington Ave.; tel. 305/532-1525

VELVET SOFAS AND BOTTLES OF DOM
Jimmy'z
An outpost of the Cannes institution, Jimmy'z is a favorite watering hole of the Euro set who can't seem to get enough of Miami. Of course, one of the main lures here is the nightclub empress Regine, who oversees the indulgent romps that take place in this richly baroque room. Overstuffed velvet sofas and brass lighting fixtures perfectly complement the bottles of Dom and $50 cigars that are consumed everywhere. The music can be anything from the most current house to the most ancient Donna Summer. Be sure to dress up, drink down, and take along someone who looks like they belong on a magazine cover.
There is a velvet rope, but it is usually easy to cross. Make sure to dress, however. Jackets work well for men
432 41st St.; tel. 305/604-9798

NEW YORK STEAKHOUSE WITH SEA VIEWS
Smith & Wollensky
Though known for being a superb New York-based steakhouse, Smith & Wollensky also features my favorite sea-view bar in Miami. A number of high tables and bar stools provide ideal vistas of Government Cut, the waterway through which all major ships must pass to reach the Port of Miami, with the exclusive residential enclave Fisher Island just beyond. Professional bartenders—not models waiting for a break—handle patrons with talent and discretion, and lobster and shrimp cocktails make perfect bar snacks.
No door policy
One Washington Ave.; tel. 305/673-2800

PERFECT HOTEL LOUNGE
Raleigh Hotel
Quite simply the perfect hotel lounge. An oval-shaped hideaway off the main lobby, the Raleigh bar looks like an intimate saloon in a grand transatlantic liner of the '30s, richly decorated with dark woods, deco details, and original terrazzo floors featuring fizzing champagne glasses. The music is always suitably swank, from Sinatra to Billie Holiday, and bartenders Crispy and Milton are famous for martinis so large they would stun an elephant. I often use it for both starting and ending an evening.
No door policy
1775 Collins Ave.; tel. 305/534-6300

TOP GAY BAR
Twist
After seven years Twist still reigns as the preeminent gay bar in a town that is famous for being a gay destination. Multiple rooms provide a variety of moods, from sweaty and pounding to cool and breezy; though the upstairs open-air veranda offers a taste of Key West, the more recently added Bungalow Bar in back is even more charming for its lack of pretense and singular privacy. Weekends get really crowded, especially late, and attract every type.
There is a doorman, but mostly to check age
1057 Washington Ave.; tel. 305/538-9478

DIVE CLASSIC
Club Deuce
Famous as the most venerable dive bar on South Beach, Club Deuce still maintains the neon signage given it by the producers of Miami Vice 15 years ago. Dark and wonderfully dank, the place hosts regulars who sit around the double-horseshoe-shaped bar and sip cheap beers and cocktails. I've been there at all hours of the day and night, and the mood is always casual and friendly, though it can get a bit raucous as the hour gets later. A great jukebox offers anything from vintage rock to jazz, and pool tables are always being used by off-duty models on a spree.
No door policy
222 14th St.; tel. 305/531-6200

LIVE JAZZ
Jazid
The only live-jazz club on South Beach, Jazid is always packed with trendy models and locals who want a cool, easy evening. Simple wooden tables and chairs surround a small stage, where combos and soloists entertain with a mixture of soul, blues, and pop standards. Upstairs is a cozy games room with great views of Washington Avenue. All in all, I find it one of the more civil haunts in town, with invariably good service and a hip clientele.
There is a doorman, but mostly for effect. Occasionally there is a small cover charge
1342 Washington Ave; tel. 305/673-9372

HIP HOTEL PARTY
Wednesday Nights at the Delano
As one-nighters go, the Delano Hotel's Wednesday party is one of the best. Filling the entire lobby with beauties, celebs, and chic travelers, the event features a wacky mix of '60s space-age lounge music, retro rock, and swingin' standards. I often go around 10 to settle in and beat the midnight crowds, who are more than ready to play, dance, and lounge about the oversized chairs and sofas. So hip it has attracted everyone from Calvin Klein to Lou Reed to N.Y. Gucci execs, who all use The Delano as home base when they're in town.
No door policy, but look like you belong with the In crowd
1685 Collins Ave.; tel. 305/672-2000

SEXY AND SIZZLING
Nikki Beach Club
South Beach's hippest scene of the moment is the Nikki Beach Club, an outdoor happening that mixes the best of Jamaica, Saint-Tropez, and Ibiza in one sexy, sizzling package. In the day it resembles a giant beach party, as shockingly good-looking kids sip champagne in white teepees or under the blazing sun. A trance-infused soundtrack is provided by the DJ, who changes the mood as the evening shadows creep into something a little more pounding. The crowd can include anything from children to grand dames to drag queens, which adds an ecumenical note to a blatantly beauty-ridden destination.
Dress chicly, but for a beach club
One Ocean Dr; 305/538-1231

CUBAN HOT SPOT
Café Nostalgia
Last year Little Havana music impresario Pepe Horta teamed up with restaurateur Shareef Malnik to bring his legendary Café Nostalgia to the beach, and it is one of the most energetic, sexy Cuban spots this side of the Straits of Florida. Whenever out-of-towners want to go to a 'Cuban place,' I know this is what they mean—a swank, yet extremely lively, room where live bands nightly play traditional merengues, salsa, and mambos, which cause patrons to dance until the wee hours. Plush banquettes, attentive service, and oceans of champagne keep everything smooth. No other city in America could host such an authentic, suave re-creation of old Cuba.
There is a doorperson, but mostly for effect. Do dress swankly, however. Jackets are fine for men, but not necessary
432 41st St.; tel. 305/534-4536

Gorgeous!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at the Raleigh for six nights during February 2005....it was fantastic! The decor is understated and glamourous, the staff attentive and friendly...the cocktails are divine...we would definitely go back. First Class!...expensive but worth every cent.

Do not stay here - You will be very sorry

1. Reserved a 1-bed suite - prepaid for 5 nights. Arrived to find out none available?? Also, even though check in is 3pm - room not ready until after 6pm. Given a small west facing room on floor where all other rooms were under construction - jackhammering started at 8am - even on Sunday - called front desk - they didn't care, didn't even appologize or make it stop. Due to Art Basel - no where else to stay - all full.

2. Pool - no screening of visitors - so all chairs taken by non-hotel guests by 10 am. No one working at hotel gave a crap when we complained.

3. Many unathorized charges on my bill which required over 1/2 to confirm they didn't belong to me.

4. Called front desk to make dinner reservations at local hot spot. After being on hold for 5 minutes they came back on the line to say "Did you want the Telephone # for the Rest? -- my response -- NO, I wanted you to make the reservation. Duh! They were unable to get us in. My friend at the Marlin got us in however (Raleigh - no clout?)

All this for $395 per night! (over inflated price due to Art Basel)

Stay anywhere but here.

Finally A Cool and Relaxing Place in South Beach!

by TripAdvisor Member WMCtraveler

I have stayed at all of the "hot" hotels in South Beach(delano, sagamore, shore club, tides, the hotel, pelican)...finally have found one which I would go back a second time! They have renovated, trained their staff well(for Miami) and the food and drinks are great. WMC period is very busy for me and it was nice to have a place to go back to and relax without all of the "try-hards" wanting to know if they should be talking to you(listening to your conversations)! I could also enjoy their amazing pool (deep enough to swim) and find a place to sit without a massive crowd at any time of the day. The front desk staff, house keeping, pool service, and restaurant service was first class. I sensed that all of these people like working here, it shows. Well done and thank you. I will be back next year.

So relaxing and serene!

by A TripAdvisor Member

I had a great experience. The room was a delight. I overlooked the pool, the windows opened to let in the ocean breeze, they had smooth jazz playing on their really nice Bose stereo/CD player, plasma tv on the wall, slippers and robe and a very comfortable bed and pillows. The barstaff was very nice as was the manager of the hotel who was checking around on guests making sure everyone was enjoying themselves.
When checking out, there were 6 people waiting and just one person working behind the counter so it was slow and disorganized. That's my only complaint. You can't beat working from the pool and martini bar with wireless access throughout the hotel and outside. I would love to stay here again, next time for longer. It was such a relaxing, beautiful place.

Hi -

You can use the functions on Yahoo Maps to determine mileage and driving times from the location you are leaving from to your destination. I use it for business travel. Traffic and weather conditions will, of cource, affect the driving time.
