Don't be afraid of Setai
by TripAdvisor Member EnigmaWmn
Stayed at the Setai from 5/16-5/21. Having read numerous reviews on problems with housekeeping and overall hotel service I was concerned, but the only issue encountered throughout our stay were the huge carpet stains in the hallway.
Housekeeping was prompt, in-room dining always arrived within the time frame given and although rather highly priced was very good. Hotel staff is very polite & accomodating and overall everything that we have requested to arrange prior to the trip along with check-in/out, car & dinner was flawlessly executed.
If planning to dine at The Restaurant make sure to request a table near the window facing the courtyard. Having gone to Nobu (which is literally 10 meters across form the hotel at the Shore Club) two nights in a row before we actually had dinner at The Restaurant we regretted not skipping Nobu at all in favor of TR. If you are faced with a choice between the two restaurants, forget the played out atmosphere of Nobu (which is rather different from NYC) and go for quite, relaxed The Restaurant with great decor and even greater cuisine.
Pool is beautiful and was one of the deciding factors in favor the Setai (cover photo on Amex's Fine Hotels & Resorts looks incredible) along with Howard Stern's recent ravings about his April stay that included mingling with Jay Z, Beyonce and (supposedly) Oprah by the pool. The overall area is rather small, so make sure to get there before 12 if you want to get a spot. There are 3 pools, one warmer & more shallow than the next with the deepest one being 6ft.
Grounds of the hotel are beautiful, but everything seems to be a little cramped and constantly makes you think, "if only they had more space to work with". Our suite was well appointed, with chocolates, champagne and a personal note from the manager upon arrival, freshly baked cookies every night and was very quite allowing for a good night's rest. There are no complaints, but we would most likely not stay at this hotel again, only because we don't care about SoBe. But if it so happens that we must visit again, The Setai will be our only choice.
Please don't hesitate to email me if you have more questions and/or would like to see photos.
The Lounge Bar at The Setai
by sue_stone about The Lounge Bar at The Setai
One night during our stay in Miami we had dinner with Alex's Aunt and her husband, who live locally. After dinner they were keen to take us for a drink at a fab newly renovated hotel bar - who were we to say no!
The bar in question was the Lounge Bar at the Setai Hotel. This a classy bar, with a fabulous tropical courtyard for those warmer nights.
We headed straight for the courtyard, which has a large central Asian-style pond surrounded in candle lit seating areas. We found a corner and took a seat, sending the men to the bar to get some drinks.
This is one seriously beautiful bar, with an amazing atmosphere. A place for a romantic drink, or to catch up with a few friends. It really is one of those places worth making the effort to check out. But make sure you bring your credit card...one round of drinks cost us 90USD...though it was worth every dime! You will get away with smart casual, but dress to impress if you want
Criminally Overpriced !!

I got a place here for the Winter and I am absolutely amazed The Setai gets away with the outrageous prices (10.00 for a glass of milk,70.00 for a minicure) when the food and service are so mediocre. The rooms are very nice but thats where it stops. The staff have no clue and the management isn't much better. I paid 1000.00 for two New Years Eve party tcts olny to find they had oversold the party resulting in the fire marshall not allowing enrty back in after I left to got to the restroom. I could go on and on about all the horrible experinces I've had there but it just upsets me. I just wanted to warn anyine considering a stay at The Setai.
This is not Aman, as we hoped. Needs major improvement

Management and staff seemed to be hired yesterday. Noone knew what they were doing, and when they did it was so/so service wise. Rooms small and not quite what we were looking forward to (even with an upgrade). We love Aman resorts. We have no desire to return to Setai.
Absolutely beautiful

We have just returned from 3 nights at the Setai. It was just magnificent. The service was amazing throughout the hotel, from the complimentary private car service to the main shopping strip down to the swimming pool everything was designed to really make you feel like a guest.
We got to meet the head chef who is also an Aussie and he was more than happy to give my children a tour of his extremely spotless kitchen. The staff were very attentive to our needs as well as the childrens' and our stay was everything we expected.
The only thing I thought was over priced was the day spa. $300USD for a massage is a bit over the top.
Real Shame

It is a real shame , I had high expectations of this hotel , but it turned out to be more of a hip and trendy shell than a proper good quality hotel that I had wanted.
The staff were nice enough but felt that they had not been fully trained
One or two nice moments but overall disapointment through over promise and under delivery
