Birthday & Christmas in South Beach. - Two UK chicks :-)
by Hippygroovychic
Hello everyone
We are planning to spend 16 days in South beach over the Christmas period and there are a couple of questions I would like to ask.
1) Can anyone recommend a restaurant to celebrate my birthday, and also recommend a restaurant for our Christmas Dinner?
2) As it will be the Christmas season, can any of you recommend a friendly, mid ranged priced hotel?
Thanks all
Lynne x

My favorite restaurant in South Beach is Wish Restaurant which is in The Hotel. The food there is wonderful. There are also a lot of choices along Lincoln Road.

There are plenty of restaurants as far as choice, have a look here at VT under Miami. For accommodation I would recommend checking out Tropics hotel & hostel. Just check www.tripadvisor. com for reviews. I've stayed there about 4 times, cost was about $75usd for a room. Thr rooms were basic, tv, aircon cupboards and hot showers, very clean. Has a great pool, has backpackers there in a dorm so u can catch up with others if u wish. The beauty of this place is it's location, minutes from Ocean beach drive - lots o art deco -restaurants, also Lincoln street [I think} has heaps of shopping, restaurants were the 'cool' people seemed to be hanging out. Area felt very safe.
To get anywhere from the airport, check the Blue shutle vans, cost is about $15-20 usd to South Beach. Have a great time.

There are many great restaurants in sobe. The newest is Danny Devitos, it is on Ocean Dr at approx 4th or 5th. The newest area in sobe is BELOW 9th.Another name is Emerils inside the Loews on Collins. Remember, these are expensive with great food and ambiance. Another oddity about sobe is that all nice restaurants add a tip(15-18%) to your bill automatically, it is annoying but I am sure they have their reasons. Also, to get a different flavor of sobe try Cuban, there is a great restaurant directly across from the National Hotel on Collins, it does not look great but the food is great. The bread is wonderful and a "Cuban" sandwich(Ham,cheese, pickle on cuban bread) is great. You will have a great time

Just called The Wish and found out that they are closed for Christmas 2007. I was hoping to eat there too!
