The cathedral at Palm Island Mt Dora
by Michael_D
Where the walkway joins the island is a setting bench I call "the cathedral" because it feels like I am sitting in a pew looking up at the cathedral cieling formed by the criss-crossing limbs of the huge bald cypress trees looming 40 feet above me. Just a faint bit of sunlight peeks through the boughs like through stained glass.
I spend 100s of hours sitting here, running my lines in my early days as an actor.
To me its a holy place rivalling the great cathedrals of Europe.
Tour Lake Dora by boat
by Michael_D
The the Rusty Anchor's pontoon boat is a stable watercraft. Tour of the lakeshore and dont miss a chance to watch one of Florida's finest sunsets and a perfect end to a Mount Dora day.
My friend city councilman Scott Alderman owns and operates the Rusty Anchor. Ive spent many hours as unofficial 1st mate courtesy of Scott when he 1st started out. Its a great memory.
Dora Canal
by Michael_D
The Dora Canal connects Lake Dora and Lake Eustis and has some of the most interesting wildlife, flora and fauna. These are bald Cypress knees.
On any given trip you can see alligators, ibis, turtles, deer, snakes...almost all forms of Florida wildlife.
Charming little town
by Katmosphere
This town is worth a day trip for sure!! It has a gorgeous lake, and there are a lot of antique shops, bars and restaurants. It's very close to Orlando, so if you want to take a break from Mickey, come here..
"walk along the lake"
be sure to go for a walk on the boardwalk along the lake, especially if you want to see some great birds and alligators.
