Perfect!
by A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed there in March 2002- it was WONDERFUL. The rooms were decorated SO nicely and the lobby is amazing. I went with my mom and two little sisters and we all agreed that it was the perfect place for relaxing.
Just make sure you have a car because all the good shopping is 20 minutes away.
Great, if your expectations are low

We spent a week here on our honeymoon. Our suite was fantastic and the beach was perfect. Food and wine pairing were tremendous. It's the service that is lacking here. We didn't even know that there was food/bev service on the first three days at the beach. Nobody came by.
Same with the concierge. He was MIA until the last day. The restaurant's waitstaff during the day were feeble. And good luck getting your car from the valet in under 40 minutes on a Friday or Saturday night. Golf course (way off-site) was nice, but there wasn't a clubhouse or restaurant at the time...and they still charged full price.
Conclusion: If you can book it at half price, do so with half the expectations. Otherwise head to the RC just down the street where they surpass your expectations w/o exception.
just ok....

We have just come back from 5 days at La Playa and are sorry to say that we were a bit disappointed with our stay there.
We reserved an ocean view room but think we must have been given the worst one in the block !!! From entering the room i could detect the smell of damp and it was very dark as the light was blocked by a big palm tree out front. The bathroom was cramped & very dated. We stuck out one night in the room but then changed to a Gulf view room which was across the road. That room was lovely as it was newer than the ocean view rooms & had a big balcony overlooking the water.
The food was very nice in the evening at Baleen restaurant but we only ate there twice since it proved very expensive. We didnt eat lunch or order any room service due to the same reason - for example, a cappucino delivered to the room would set you back over US10 (incl room charges + tax). We were able to find a lot cheaper cafes in and around naples itself. If possible try and get some food included in your hotel price as it would end up being very expensive otherwise.
The service was also a bit lacking alternating between very rude to over the top friendliness. In the rude basket i would put the valet, certain front desk staff and the aloof concierge. The waiters at the Baleen restaurant tended to be a lot better although the "hosts" tended to be also rude when a different table was requested.
The actual beach front is lovely though (calm water & soft sand) and it was great not having to worry about getting the sun loungers or umbrellas as the beach staff do that for you (at a small tip of course..).
Overall it is an ok place to stay if you havent been to anywhere else decent. It pales in comparison to other 4 star places that we have stayed in the carribean and doesnt even come close to standards set by asian hotels.
Wow What more can i say? Wow!!!

Excellent!! As soon as i got to the resort i knew i was in heaven. Valet was very courteous and helpful. Front desk girls were so pleasant and great at check in. When i got to the room i was so surprise. it was the first room that actually did not look like a motel 6. It had beautiful furniture, awesome canopy bed with lots of plush pillows and the bathroom was out of this world with an inviting jacuzzi overlooking the ocean. Id have to say this is the best room ive ever stayed at. When i got out to the balcony i couldnt breath! the view was soooo orgasmic i was on the 11th floor and i had a straight view of the gulf...it was extremely relaxing. I had a nice candelight dinner on the balcony. The service from every department as great what more can i say. The pool makes you feel like ur in another world and what can be better then bathing in the sun on a chair and sipping a pina colada? Keep up the good work LaPLaya i will sure be coming back more often!!!!!!!!!
A great trip!

I was very skeptical of what I would find at La Playa after reading the reviews on this site. However, I was extremely pleased with my stay. First, the beach is fabulous. Contrary to what the previous poster said, a tip is not required for beach service (i.e. getting chairs, towels, etc.). It takes some effort to flag down a waiter on the beach but that is because there are only two of them. Second, the rooms were nicely appointed without being stuffy and very clean. I stayed in the beach house and would recommend it. The alternatives are the Gulf Tower and another tower across the street. Third, the service was quite good, especially on the beach and in the restaurant. One drawback is that there is only one restaurant, Baleen, with a primarily seafood menu. A little more variety (both in terms of the types of food and the cost) would be nice. Overall, however, this is a great place to stay and, importantly, is A LOT less stuffy than the Ritz Carlton (which, after all, is important on a beach vacation).
Extraordinary Place

Spent a wonderful week at La Playa in late April - Stayed in the beach house on second floor and found it wonderful. Had a great view and instant access to a marvelous beach. The restaurant, Baleen, is excellent with great fresh fish. Dining is about as close to the sand as you can get. We found the service to be excellent. We toured the Ritz which is indeed a majestic place but in our view was conceptually different than La Playa. La Playa to us was like staying in a friend's comfortable house at the beach (more expensive however). If you are looking for a pure beach experience than La Playa is the place.
Truly Wonderful in All Regards

In early June, 2004 we stayed at the La Playa for a week. The hotel, grounds, and staff are all wonderful. The beach is the best in Naples... the pools are small but spotlessly clean...and the pool area is beautiful. The restaruant is very good but very expensive. We had a dinner for 8 there and it was flawless. The drink prices, however, are comical ($9.50 for a small bar drink). We played the golf course and found it too narrow and with too much water to have fun. There is water on 14 of 18 holes...too difficult of a course for 10 handicap or greater. Instead, go to the LeLy course South of Naples. We inadvertantly left our passports in the hotel when we left but the staff found them and promtly FedEx them to us. This resort is equal to or better than many higher priced resorts we have visited. We could not have been happier with our stay at the LaPlaya.
The beach was the best part...

The best part of La Playa is the location - the beach is just absolutely gorgeous. The rooms and facilities are quite nice, although it does show some wear in places (a previous guest, for example, bent the iron post on our bed). We stayed in the Beach House, and we loved it! We were literally steps away from the beautiful beach.
Service, on the other hand, was not as good as it should have been. The staff were polite and nice, but dirty dishes remained in the hallways all morning, and sometimes it was difficult to find a waitress to take your drink order, even though it wasn't busy.
We were on the bed/breakfast plan, so our parking fee, resort fee, and breakfast were included in our rate. Guests should be aware of these fees to avoid being surprised.
Dining at Baleen was pricey but good. We enjoyed watching the sunsets at our outdoor table. The only downside was that it was a bit buggy, and I saw people spraying bug spray on themselves at the table!
Overall, I highly recommend La Playa for beach lovers who want a clean, beautiful beach with calm, warm waters. When we were there in June, there was a nice mix of couples and families.
Relaxed and Romantic, a perfect escape

My wife and I were looking for a relaxed, casual break, and the LaPlaya delivered just what we needed. Our spacious 11th story room was much like the pictures on the web site, and the balcony looked out over the gulf, perfect for sunset watching. The restaurant was a bit more expensive than we were looking for, but the evening meal we had there was very well done and the breakfasts started the day off well. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and looked wonderful at night, and the beach (near Vanderbilt Beach) was terrific. This was not the busy season, so the beach and the entire area was not that busy, again just what we were looking for. The chairs and umbrella on the beach came with drink service that was just right. Everything added up to a very relaxing trip. I'd return here again for sure.
