Canoes / Tubing near Ocala.

I shall be travelling up to Ocala from Tampa in August.
I would like to go to one of the Springs in the Ocala area. I have heard that Juniper and Alexander Springs are best but perhaps someone in the area or in the VT community can help to inform me of somewhere better.
I have tried to research this without much success so far any tips would be appreciated.

We used to go camping in this area a lot in the 80s - specifically I remember canoeing and swimming in Rainbow River in Dunnellon, which is actually a bit southwest of Ocala. The water was crystal clear, and you could just let the current carry you. No gaters either! And there were no crowds like at Manatee Springs I think it was.
I don't remember any places that we stayed in Ocala itself - other than in the National Forest for Thanksgiving, but no tubing or canoeing on that trip.

"Juniper Springs"
The day after Thanksgiving - my friend Jane and I went on a short camping trip in the Ocala National Forest. The campesite is called Juniper Springs. It was an easy trip from Tampa except we got into some major traffic just south of the "Swamp" and the Gators had a big game that day.
It was sunny but chilly for Florida standards anyway and it got colder as evening came on. Jane thought she brought chili but it was only a big can of kidney beans ... hmmm...
"Silver Glen Springs"
Next morning we left the campesite and headed east and north and came upon Silver Glen Springs. The attendant told us that it is "the Glen" as referenced in the book The Yearling by Rawlings. It is just beautiful. We rented a canoe and paddled out on an inland waterway that was crystal clear and every shade of blue. The morning was cool and bright... perfect I think. We passed water birds and turtles sitting along the bank sunning and fishing. After about 20 minutes of paddling we were at Lake George. A passing boatman told us there were manatees out near the channel.
We headed out toward the markers and came upon the manatees. There were maybe 5 or 6 of them. We came very close and they seemed curious about us too. Nice to see them up close in their habitat like that.
