I am not an angler nor an yachman.
What there is to see at the Lake Okeechobee ? Where to stay ?
The Clewiston Inn is the premier place to stay up there. It is an old inn that was once the place to go for people in Palm Beach County. There is not much up there if you are not a fisherman, sod farms and sugar cane fields, now tree farms to landscape all the new homes in Florida and some citrus. An interesting area is Hendry County west of the lake . It contains an area known is the Devils garden, it is still a very deserted place. You can get some views of the caloosahatchee river which runs all the way to Ft.Myers.
Pretty much anywhere there is a large body of water in Florida, you can do swamp tours to see the local flora & fauna, so Okeechobee must have them too. There are beautiful birds and a ton of other sights, including gators everywhere of course.
You'll usually be in a flat bottom boat on placid waterways, so no need to be a yachtsman.
