affordable orlando getaway
by 14girasol
In a couple of weeks my family and I will be visiting orlando for the first time. This is our first family vacation in 10 years. We don't have a lot of money to spend and I will appreciate if anyone could guide us through finding cheap hotels, discount tickets and so on. I would like my two little girls to have a great time. thank you.

check out the web site mousesavers.com
they offer all sorts of advise for discounts, and other disney info. Lots of info on the site - I've used them, and we have gotten some great deals.

I would highly recommend going to Gatorland. It's a fun and unique experience for both kids and adults. Most hotels have a brochure stand that will have a Gatorland brochure with a buy-one-get-one-free coupon. You can also visit http://www.placestogousa.com/2009/10/places-to-go-florida_7843.html for more great ideas of fun and interesting things to do in central Florida (other than just the typical theme parks)

We just went to Blizzard Beach ( Disney water park) yesterday and had a GREAT time!! If you like water activities, this would be the place. It is a little less expensive than the regular Disney tickets ( I think we paid $49 each for adults, your kids will be less). They have a great area for younger kids, plus lifevests if they don't know how to swim also.
Travel Tips for Orlando
Universal Studios Cineplex
by yooperprof
I had an afternoon to kill in Orlando so I went to see "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" at the Universal Studios Cineplex. There are about 47 separate screening rooms here, and it's easy to get lost walking around, but it seemed to be a well-run complex. I like that you can purchase your tickets with a credit card at vending machines in the plaza outside the theater.
spend a day visiting Kenedy...

spend a day visiting Kenedy Space Center in Cape Carnarval my best memory of visiting Kenedy Space Center is touring the launch pad, vehicle assembly building, ISS assembly line, and saturn V, space shuttle mockup.
Lift Off!
by Carnation
At around 2.30pm local time the shuttle launched and the cameras were clicking away. A few minutes later the noise reached us with a boom making the ground shudder slightly under my feet. This was well worth waiting for and an unexpected treat. On this occassion the shuttle was going up to do repairs on a satellite.
Pressed Pennies & Quarters
by cjg1
I had seen machines that do souvenir coins in other places before so this was not a new thing for me to see. It is a custom for Liz to get pressed pennies from every Disney location when she visits. She's been doing this since she was a child and has a nice collection from all of her trips.
A souvenir penny is $51 cents (two quarters and one penny). A souvenir quarter is $1.25 (5 quarters).
Packing List

If you are coming to Florida in the summer time, do bring sunscreen, but also bring your UMBRELLA. It is hot here in the summer time, but it also rains a lot. Lots of thunderstorms here in the summer.
Also, ***bring a light jacket***, even if the weather is HOT... a lot of places turn the air conditioning up very high, and believe it or not, you might get cold if you're inside certain places for very long. If doesn't hurt to bring Benadryl or Benadryl itch cream if you have any allergies to ant stings. All I have to say about photographic equipment is be sure to have plenty of film or whatever you need - there is plenty to photograph down here, where you can see blue herons, cranes, egrets and lots of wildlife just about anywhere.
