Close to Universal

This twin tower hotel is very close to the Universal Studios parks and offers complimentary scheduled shuttles to the parks. There is a nice pool on the grounds and there are also a few different choices for dining here. The only real downside was the difficulty in finding a parking space at times. Be sure to ask for the cookies when you are checking in. The Doubletree is a little expensive, yet it is a nice hotel.

Unique Quality: Easy access to Universal and all of the places along International Drive. If Universal is your main goal for your stay, this might be a good choice.

Not impressed

by A TripAdvisor Member

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. Room was very shabby and dingy (and not too clean)....bedspreads, pictures, etc. were all faded and worn. There was no fan in the bathroom and the coffeemaker didn't have a basket so you couldn't make a pot of coffee.

Housekeeping was HORRIBLE. One day they didn't leave washcloths. We called the Careline (what a joke) but never received any. The next day they didn't leave ANY towels at all......after we called the Careline TWICE they finally brought us some (but no washcloths or handtowels). We were in a smoking room and they took all the ashtrays.....they finally had to bring us some soap dishes because (they) couldn't find any.

The pool was ok, but the spa was boarded up......ticked us off because we like to use the spa after a long, tiring day at Universal.

A free lousy chocolate chip cookie (and they weren't that great) won't make up bad management. Next time I'll stay elsewhere........there are too many choices in Orlando to settle for this place.

Awesome hotel!

Had a wonderful stay here in early July. Staff was super friendly. I'm not sure what these people are complaining about - perhaps they didn't get one of the newly renovated rooms. We had a great (large) room with a view of Universal. Our housekeeping staff was excellent! Room service was pretty good...and those cookies at check-in are tasty!! The shuttle was great in the hot weather. Beautiful hotel!

Not near as nice as it looks

I just got back from a 4 night stay at this hoteland I was not impressed. 85% of the staff were rude to us, including the bellboys. Housekeeping woke us up 3 days in a row at 8am, and kept asking us when we were going to check-out over and over again. We never once got room service, becasue they seemed to do it only in the morning when we were sleeping.
I feel like this wasn't good service at all and it didnt make our stay very enjoyable. We also had to wait 3 hours for towels. The careline wasn't very helpfel and the only good thing were the cookies when you checked in.
We were very disaapointed when we saw that the spa was boarded up. This hotel may be good for older people or kids but for two teenagers, it was not good. I wouldn't stay here again, we could be treated better at the Dollar Inn.

Great Hotel

We arrived on June 4th 2004 for two weeks. All the facilities were very good and with a very good pool. They do need more sun lougers due to the hotel being used as a stop over for airline crew and they us alot.
The location is perfect for Universal and you can walk quicker than driving and parking. It takes 15min to walk and all the roads have pedestrian crossings. The hotel is a conference facillity so it does get busy and you may have to que for a lift.We had a great time and would use the hotel again.

Nice hotel-miserable staff!!

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for two weeks in June. The hotel was a lovely hotel, the room was slighlty dated however, it was very clean and tidy. We also recieved a complimentary copy of USA today each morning which was a nice touch.

The staff were very miserable (verging on ignorant sometimes) apart from one girl in the food court and staff who gave info out about theme parks etc.

The hotel seemed full of americans on a couple days vacation, airline crew or people attending conferences opposed to holidaymakers, therefore, the facilities were tailored to that.

The location was excellent for universal with an excellent pool however the spa was closed.

Also if staying here keep a close eye on your valuables as some money went missing out of our room!!!

Nice hotel when we finally got our room!

by TripAdvisor Member TAshkar

We arrived very tired to find that our room had been double booked, not very happy! We were put in the Hilton Garden Inn just up the road for the night, which was a very nice hotel with excellent staff, much smaller than the Double Tree. When we arrived the next day we were given an executive room, not suite which would have been nicer, but it was very roomy, clean and comfortable. The hotel is very big so you don't get to know the majority of the staff, but we found them very helpful and polite, especially housekeeping (we tipped on a daily basis), which was more than could be said for some of the other guests and staff at the theme parks. Pool was nice and clean. Hotel caters mainly for short stay guests so maybe should provide more evening entertainment for longer staying guests and children, but after the parks all you really want to do is get some sleep. Cookies given at reception when you book in are excellent! Would stay here again, but not for the whole of our holiday.

Great Hotel

This was the 5th time we had been to Florida (where else can you go after visiting this amazing place) but we had reservations about staying at this hotel after reading the reviews before travelling. However they were unfounded, we had a beautiful room in the South Tower, 4th Floor, which is non smoking which had just been renovated so request a room on this floor to be guaranteed a lovely room, people in the north tower were not as pleased as they had not yet been renovated but I think they plan to start on them soon. The pool was lovely and not too overcrowed, this hotel is used for conventions and airline staff as a stopover. Close to Universal, about a 10 minute walk but close to nothing else unfortunatelyl, a car is recommended if you stay here, the I-ride is regular but takes you North to the Belz Mall before taking you South along I-Drive which can be very busy at times. Only 5 minutes drive away from I-Drive where there is loads of places to eat, for Italian food, the Olive Garden is a must and for Mexican, Don Pablos (their frozen margaretias are amazing). For all the time you are actually in you room this is a lovely hotel to stay in. Enjoy your holiday with no worries if staying at the Doubletrees (the cookies at check-in are delicous)

what a let down!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I stayed for the week-end on 7/30-7/31/2004. This was supossed to be a romantic week-end getaway. I did not know this was a convention hotel and that caused a big problem. First problem was parking! We could not find a parking place. The only place available was in the rear of the hotel and then you had to walk to the front of the hotel to get in. Not very safe late at night. Room was dirty when we checked in and although were were given a suite as an apology that room was not that great. No wash clothes, no coffee for the coffee maker, no ice machine on our floor. Lets talk food. Went to Scuba Joes for dinner. I paid $15.00 for a small bowl of pasta in a clam sauce. No salad, no bread and nobody offered to bring me anything else. There were the convention people running around yelling and screaming and they took over the pool and everything. The common outdoor areas were littered and dirty and only one umbrella with boken ribs to sit under. Then I was charged $10.00 more for the suite even though I was told there would not be an extra charge. All in all a very bad stay and I do not think we will stay there again!!

Dirty, Scary, High Price

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stay at Hilton family hotels over 70 nights a year! This hotel was by far the worst experience we have had. When we arrived the police were in the lobby investigating complaints. There were no bell hops to help us with our bags. When we arrived in our room, it was dirty with pee in the toilet, hair all over the sink area and a stained couch. We were so tired, we stayed after laying towels down on the carpet to walk. We woke up the next day and spent the entire day at Universal Studios and when we came back to our room, IT WAS STILL DIRTY! By this time, I went to talk to the manager and she asked what I wanted her to do about it. She changed our room for us, but it was only to another sub-standard room. Think twice if you are going to this hotel.
