All the bus stops have a distinctive sign of a paw print and the number bus services which stop there and are cheap and fun as some services provide tv screens wiv puzzles and latest news. Here are a few of the services that may come in handy if staying on International Drive:-

No. 50 I RIDE to stop No 38 (one stop before seaworld) cross the road to other bus stop opposite side then No. 50 to WDW Ticketing and Transport Center (Magic Kingdom ferryboat entrance)

Date of Trip 10/22/04 -Great International Drive Area Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

Since we were going to Sleuths Mystery Dinner Show located on Universal Boulevard. I wanted a hotel nearby, preferably within walking distance. That’s the great thing about Orlando; there are usually several hotels within walking distance of wherever you are going. I started my search by entering Sleuths address into my mapping program and looking at the nearby hotels. Then I used Trip Advisor to narrow down the choices. I decided to give the Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando International Cove a try. After using Trip Advisor to search for the best rate I found that for our date, all of the prices were about the same. I used the Fairfield Inn Web site to make my reservations because a) I have a Marriott Rewards account and b) they allow you to request early check-in. Since our travel time to O-town is only 2 ½ hours we tend to arrive early – which we did. It was 11 AM to be precise. We are experienced travelers to the Orlando area and we didn’t have any problem getting to the hotel. There is only one driveway entrance off of Canada Avenue so be ready to turn or you will miss it. There was no waiting at the reservations desk but after my request of “We would like to check-in please”, the young man stated “You can’t check-in until after three PM.” “We requested early check-in our name is …..” “Is the third floor OK?” “That would be fine.” This is the first time that I have stayed in a Fairfield “suite” room and it was about what I expected it to be. There was a King bed, closet, dresser, and a 25-inch TV. Then a sitting area with a large TV, “Boom Box” radio, a couch and a chair. A small alcove that we put the cooler and grocery bag in. A dressing area with a sink and a faucet that defies any kind of simple logic as to how it’s supposed to be used. Opposite the sink is an alcove that holds the microwave, the coffee maker, and the traditional small “cube” refrigerator. The bathroom consists of the standard tub/shower with an adjustable shower head and a commode. Our friend at the front desk gave us a “pool view” room which was a nice surprise. My wife noticed right away that the non-smoking room had been smoked in and it had a slight musty smell too. In the hotels defense though, people here don’t take the “non-smoking” rule seriously, especially in this price range. The room was very clean, almost spotless and the carpet was in fair condition. They do get a little stingy with the consumables though. One coffee packet, one bar of soap on the sink and on the tub, one bottle of shampoo (no conditioner), three bath towels, etc. You get the picture. There is a USA Today newspaper available in the lobby but not delivered to your room. The small pool and kiddy pool looked nice and a few families and kids were enjoying it. There was a small exercise room too that wasn’t crowded when we were there. They have a breakfast nook near the lobby but we didn’t use it this time.
I would come back to this hotel and I have no problem recommending it to others.

The room was clean and ordinary

by A TripAdvisor Member

The room was clean and ordinary. Very convient to Universal Studios and Sand Lake Rd. I thought the price was a little too high. The whirlpool was broken the first few days we were there, was finally able to use it the last night of our stay. All in all it was an ok hotel.

Good value for money

by TripAdvisor Member peppermintcat

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn for 3 nights during June '04.

The hotel is situated just behind international drive, within walking distance of many restaurants.

We were given a "king suite" on the third floor. We had a double bed and a sofa bed, with a wall that separated them. The room was well equipped with 2 TV's (one being very big), iron and board, microwave, fridge, stereo and hairdryer. The room itself was clean, although our sink was blocked when we arrived - this was seen to the next morning. The beds were not the most comfortable I have slept in, but were ok.

You get a complimentary continental breakfast each morning, which you can eat either in the breakfast area, or on the tables outside. There is a good selection of items including cereal, toast, bagels, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, and coffee, tea, juice etc. It is usually busy, and if you get there late, you may find they have run out of coffee, or the bins are full - which means there is rubbish on the tables.

There was a small swimming pool, which we didn't use.

Overall, good value for money. If you have a few more $ to spend, I would recommend the Crowne Plaza Universal as the rooms are more luxurious, but if you want a clean and friendly place to stay, then this fits the bill.

The only things I would change are the lifts, which are old and small. And also, it would be nice to have a safe in the room.

one of the worst staff we have come across

by A TripAdvisor Member

good hotel...reception staff - little guy with spikey hair on reception was very rude and also the staff did not seem to care about his attitude - Virgin had to intervene as he was very rude and opressive otherwise, he even locked us out of our room as Virgin had accidently ommited the leap year, and would not let us and our two kids back in until we paid the 119 USD room rate again Virgin had to sort the matter out, would not stay there again as there are many hotels with better facilities and more importantly who appreciate customer care.

Room was not the best and the AC was not working well, we had booked a family room and were given a double 1 bed room and then had to beg for a rollaway as they had no suites available,

It was one of the worst hotels we have stayed in, the others Holiday Inn and Staybridge suites were much better, the Continental breakfast was not great and certainly left a lot to be desired, also the Gym room consisted of two Running Machines and a TV, we have informed Virgin of our problems, awaiting outcome.

Overall very poor and unsatisfactory service.

unhappy with smell of dampness in room

by TripAdvisor Member nge

We stayed for 3 nights in July, 2004. Hotel is new, very clean, good continental breakfast. The beds are tiny with those thin foam mattresses, furniture okay nothing special, small ordinary rooms. That's okay though, but the thing that turned me off was the smell of mold and dampness in the room. Even with the air conditioning running all day long it still smelled bad and the sheets actually felt wet from the dampness. Their air conditioning units must not work well. Would have been a decent place if not for the dampness. Will not stay here again orlando is full of hotel choices. After a long day at the parks , a good night sleep in a good bed with fresh air is the most important.

comfortable clean rooms...........

by A TripAdvisor Member

We spent a week at this hotel in July 04. Room with two queen beds. Clean and comfortable. In a quiet location at the back of International Drive. Staff helpfull and courteous. Buffet breakfast included in price was good for it's type. Heated pool, small but well kept with some inflatables for children. We would recomend this hotel which had a good family relaxed atmosphere. Fitness room not used by most guests had nearly new running and step machines, and air conditioned.

Good hotel, great staff

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed here for 2 weeks in August 2004. The rooms were cleaned every day with new sheets and towels. Continental breakfast had a good choice, though that did vary a little. Great location for I-Drive. Staff were great, really friendly and helpful. Pool was adequate though could have been cleaned a little more often!!
One thing, we booked a suite. Don't. It's just a hotel room with a small set of wardrobes partially partitioning the room!
Would definitely recommend the hotel.

Great Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

I arrived in Florida and had the most horrendeous experience at the Enclave suites. (I managed a whole 2 hours in there before leaving as a family of 4 was sharing my accommodation at no charge - the Cockroach family!!!!) I contacted the Virgin Hoidays rep who agreed to move us. As it was the 4th July weekend, there was very little available, but they could get us a suite at the Fairfield. I took this with great reservation as it was the only thing available, but.... It was fantastic!!!! I don't understand people who have wrote "bad" reviews on this hotel as it was clean, the staff were friendly, the room was quite truely amazing. Lets put it this way, I have already booked to go back in January. No its not a 5 star, but it is what it says!!! I would recommend this to anyone and at the end of the day my job is to deal with "customers in resort" with "real" problems for another tour operator, and Im sorry if people don't like the "free" breakfast, but its free!!!, and if you don't like it, go and spend your money in the "Ponderosa" because I am sure this would be right up your street!!!!

Fantastic Fairfield!

by TripAdvisor Member llorribull

I can't say anything bad about this hotel at all. If you want a clean, friendly and reasonably priced hotel to base your stay at then you need look no further than the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Canada Avenue.
It's just off the I Drive which means it is quiet but well within walking distance of resaturants etc.
We stayed there for 16 nights - July / August 04, we were unfortunate to be there for Hurricane Charlie but the staff of the hotel were fantastic, helpful and supportive. Travis was always helpful and the manager replied to my e-mails promptly when we arranged a fridge for our room (the only downside but it can be arranged at a small hiring charge.)
This really is a great place and if we go back to Orlando we'll stay at the Fairfield! With so much of USA not explored yet we may go elsewhere but Orlando is such a brilliant holiday destination...the parks are just ace! We stayed last time in a Disney hotel but this time we enjoyed staying in the 'hub' of I-Drive.

Do you have a car?

I don't know whether this Days Inn has a shuttle to the parks or not.

LadyJane is right about International Drive having easy acces (central location) to everything. It is also where a lot of the restraunts are and side attractions.

I just moved here about 5 months ago and have driven past the Days Inn on International. It looked nicer than teh average Days Inn (bigger). However it is still a Days Inn.

I'm not sure if your familar with that franchise, but they are budget. 2.5 stars.

If you need any help on attractions or anything you can e-mail me at....

Check out www.rusmarproperties.com. They have rental properties, including a hotel room option with a mini-fridge & microwave which runs around $50/night, but they offer discounts if you ask for it.
They give travel times to various activities in the area and is about 18 miles from MCO.
We stayed there and really enjoyed it.

Good Luck!
