Everything is relative. If you tell us where you are coming from, maybe we can determine if it would be "Expensive'. ???

You're going to Orlando but nobody wants to go to theme parks?
Maybe one of the coastal resorts would suit you better?
Orlando is well-known for the Disney theme parks plus Seaworld, Universal Studios and some water parks.
What DO you like to do? maybe we can help with suitable suggestions?

Where could you be coming from to want to go to International Drive, Orlando and no theme parks? The chain stylish restaurants are not really significantly more expensive than elsewhere in the USA. Fast food is fast food priced. There are some reasonable tourist shops, but generally shopping prices are somewhat elevated when directed at tourists.
Seriously, get in that rental car and get out of Orlando. I would suggest St. Augustine as a start.
good luck.

Best Time to Visit Walt Disney World
by virtualpatrick
The following article on the best months/weeks to visit, even though it's focused on Disney World, can be applied pretty much to any theme park in the area:

Alligators! Right now there are a hundred and thirty alligators on the Breeding Marsh, several hundred adult animals in the front lake areas and another several hundred young alligators in the display pools and the nursery for a total of over one thousand alligators. And about two hundred crocodiles.
General Disney Resort Tip
by Ischyros
Disney World lists its hotels in four catagories: Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and Home Away From Home. These catagories are based on price and amenities offered. Value resorts are the cheapest. You won't find the wonderful luxury spas. What you will find are the only resorts on Disney property under $100 a night (during the offseason) and plenty of families and kids. Moderate resorts are a bit higher on the chain. You will find much better theming here and room quality and amenities are bumped up a bit. All rooms on Value and Moderate resorts open outdoors and none have balconies. Deluxe resorts are top of the line! Here you will find very expensive rooms (over $200 a night), but you will also find less kids, more romance, beautiful views, and in some cases luxurious spas! These resorts are the only ones to have balconies and all rooms open to an interior hallway. Home away from home resorts are just as they sound. Sort of like small apartments. They usually have sleeping area, sitting/living room, and small kitchen. These are generally the most expensive rooms at Disney but are more like villas than hotel rooms.
You may find that the service...

You may find that the service here in the summer is not exactly...friendly. Please don't be upset. It's just the weather. Everyone is hot and sticky, and while you're on vacation and intent on having a good time, remember, the people serving you are just at work for another day.
Light Clothes And Lots Of Sunscreen
by Trina_Craggs
A large suitcase and an easy to carry backpack. Shorts, light tops, sweaters, light pants. Sunscreen is a definite plus. A digital camera and a disposable for back up are always good. A hat and comfortable shoes.
