birds at walt disneyworld
by kriddie77
My family was in Orlando in December and the white ibis were everywhere. I'm very afraid of birds and seeing all those about did me in. We are leaving for Orlando in 3 weeks and I wondered if the birds were as bad in the summer time? Thanks for any info you can give me!

My wife has a huge bird phobia as well. Unfortunately there will always be birds in Orlando and they seem to have a fondness for the region. They are not aggressive birds but I can understand your fear. We had a run in with Emus on our last trip to Australia...

Lots of water+lots of birds. Trust me Florida is jam packed with birds..fortunately the non-aggressive type. I have a huge phobia with birds so I can understand your concern...

Thanks to all who replied. I can get by if there is like a couple here and there, my neice and nephew run them off before we get to where they are. When we went in December, we walked into Animal Kingdom & they were just everywhere and I had a full on panic attack, hyperventilating, bursting into tears lol. That was my first to trip to Disney and the very first day lol.The larger white birds that are with the ibis- (I think they are Egrets right?) One of those swooped at us twice before we left so I'm not planning on going back to Animal Kingdom this time. A lady who has recently moved from Miami had mentioned that they didn't seem as bad during the summer as they are in the winter.... Here's hoping!!!!

I live 7 months or more of the year in Florida. Neither of those birds are aggressive. I see Ibis every day. They stay out of the way of people all the time. I have been to disney several times and have never noticed them begging from people. The worst I have seen there is blackbirds (Grackles) stealing food if you leave food on the table at the outside venues. I saw a woman take some trash to the waste container about 40 feet away and leave her remaining food on the table. The bird swooped down and grabbed a piece of pepperoni from her pizza and flew off to eat it. It certainly was more humorous than dangerous.

Well I assure you we were walking out of Dinoland and a big white bird flew down at our heads and then turned to come back lol..Everyone else around us was on guard to during that moment lol. We had no food in our hands and I'm the only birdaphobe in our family so my family was around me and ducking and screaming too :) We saw tons of the birds around the food places but I try to do a very brisk walk/sprint thru there.

I guess to people who aren't afraid of birds, they really don't pay that much attention to them. But I am on guard looking left to right up and down constantly. When your afraid of things your more aware they are there. Thank you so much for everyone's input and for those of you that sympathize:)
Travel Tips for Orlando
Theme parks in general
by redtrike1
There is no one single thing that stands out in Orlando.
The whole place is just overflowing with life, and it is you (the people) that give it this life.
It doesnt matter where you go, wherever you look there is always something going on. Having been to Orlando a few times now, I must say that the Disney parks are not as popular with us as they were. this may be due in park to the fact that the children are growing up.
Also the other parks are starting to catch up a bit now. I must say that at the moment my favorites are Seaworld (I like animals-big softy) as you can get free beer and Islaands of adventure (the newest part of Universal studios), However EPCOT will always have a special place with me because I enjoy the evening display so much.

GO TO DISNEY QUEST IN DOWNTOWN DISNEY. YOU PAY ONE PRICE AND GET TO PLAY ALL THE VIDIO GAMES FOR FREE. THEY HAVE ELECTRONIC GAMES, BASEBALL HITTING GAMES, BASKETBALL SHOOTING GAMES, AND MANY INTERACTIVE STYLE GAMES. THE FONDEST MEMORY OF DISNEY WORD WAS THE EPCOT CENTER, MY TEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER LOVED THE AMIMAL KINGDOM.

visit EPCOT CENTER's fantastic World Showcase!! Here I am at China World (I think that's what it was called).... within the World Showcase area.
If you've never been to CHINA and want to experience what it's like to be in such a lovely country, then head down this way! Behind me is an EXACT replica of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing! You can also taste some delicious Chinese cuisines, grab some souvenirs of China and... well, generally, have a great time!
Don't miss their incredible 360 degrees movie on 'China' in the IMAX theater. It's VERY crowded most times.... so, try and be the first ones in the queue. :-))

Packing List
by stopatnothin
If you want to take a little back pack , fine . Keep in mind you have to either put it into a locker to go on a ride or have somebody else hold it . with all the walking that you will be doing should you visit these theme parks , please - bring comfortable walking shoes . You will go home with blisters . It gets really hot in Florida . Be sure to either stop at water fountains throughout the parks ( yuk , Florida water , I think , tastes nasty ) or bring your own . You will feel sick if you don't drink enough liquids being in the sun . Gee , I sound like such a mom !
