toll roads?

by nwestwood

This year we plan on doing some more exploring of Florida so will be doing lots of driving to different places, so is it worth paying for a toll road tag, if so how much would they be per week?? did look at them last year but forgot the costs.

Cheers.

Here are the links for the Florida Turnpike, and for tolls in the Orlando area.

http://www.floridasturnpike.com/index.cfm

http://www.expresswayauthority.com/

Depending on where you are, where you're going, and time of day sometimes I will or won't take a toll road.

I live north of Orlando, for instance. I used to take 417 (toll) to the airport, but the tolls increased, particularly in Seminole County and it does seem you go out of the way a bit. So now I take I-4 to the 408, and do pay $1.00 to Semoran Blvd-SR436 to get to the airport, it's chaper and faster unless I'm driving during rush hour. In that case I'll take the 417.

Turnpike vs. I-95 - hmmm, I usually end up taking the turnpike, seems faster unless they have too many construction areas. Why I do, seems more of a "straight shot" than I-95.

Hope this helps!

the smaller stickers only cost about $5. The tolls are automatically deducted from your checking or savings account (or credit card) I like the toll roads for convenience, but they did just jump to $1 in most places and that does add up.

Travel Tips for Orlando

Disney World, MGM, Universal....

by John195123

Disney World, MGM, Universal. Personally, I hate these places. I think they suck. I have been there twice and was neither impressed by most of it, nor did I want to stay. Especially the second time. The first time I was too young to know the difference, and it actually looked kind of neat. The second time, I was older, and more into travel, and it just didn't seem good. HOWEVER, it is a great place to take kids, and it's also a piece of America.

Things to Remember

by Cielo_Algaeed

Disneyworld is so huge and its impossible to see all those 4 major themeparks in one day. It is either you purchase a longer number of days, or a park hopper ticket or a no expiration ticket.
Disney ticket is one of the most expensive themepark in Orlando. Next would be Universal Studios. So better yet plan ahead and make sure to make an itinerary to where and when to visit the parks and museums. This would save you time!
Also, one cannot resist the attracting souvenirs which you can find within the parks. mind you, most of them are pretty expensive. A shot glass would cost you $5.00 to $7.00 each. While T-shirts and other clothing ranges from $25- 40 per piece.
In cases that you really love to get some souvenir items (which i think we all love to do) Go and visit any Walmart branch, they have wide selection of Disney items at a lower price.

Mickey's Premium Ice Cream Bar

by cjg1

All the Disney Parks and properties sell the Mickey Premium Ice cream bars and other Mickey themed ice cream treats. I had never eaten one before but Liz assured me that I had to have one. It's a good sized bar of vanila ice cream covered in a chocolate shell and shaped like Mickey's head. It was so good we actually had two in one day.

The Mickey's Premium Ice Cream Bar is only $2.50 each so it's delicious and affordable.

Mickey's Cookies n Cream Sandwich is $2.50 as well.

At Disney World

by easterntrekker

Take a day pack with you . Lockers are available as soon as you enter for a fee of $7.00. You can store extra articles there incase you need them later. A sun hat, and rain poncho and good walking shoes , are a good idea for a day at the park . However we always come prepared. What starts out as a hot day can turn chilly as the day turns in to evening. There are firt aid stations here but don't forget sunscreen . It's more expensive here. Lots of digital memory and don't forget batteries. You can purchase them but they will cost more here. It's a good idea to pack a water bottle for everyone . They can be refilled at the foutains . We always take a cooler for our lunch and store it in oor locker.

WDW Marina

by grandmaR

Not many people seem to know about it but there's a small marina on the lakefront near the Comtemporary Resort where you can rent boats.

12' Sun Fish Sailboat 2 guest maximum $9.43 per ½ hour
14' Hobie Cat Sailboat 2 guest maximum $11.79 per ½ hour

My niece, who is mad on sailing wanted to do this. The website says:

"Please present a Walt Disney World Resort ID Card, passport, or a valid driver's licence. Sales tax not included. For information on specialty cruises (seasonal) or additional recreation offerings, please inquire at the rental window, touch 57 on your WDW Resort room phone, or call WDW-PLAY."

*Requires reservations.
