Packing List by DoctorDon
PACK LIGHT. Check the weather patterns for the area before you leave home, and realize that, if need be, you can buy clothes there (and probably will, anyway). You need only ONE pair of shoes -- a well-broken-in (NOT NEW) pair of sneakers -- I use Reebok shoes designed for walking, Tjorlo double-wall hiking socks (buy them at a camping supply store) and I've never had a blister or even a sore foot. T-shirts, shorts (plus a jacket & jeans in winter), a nice short-sleeved shirt and a nice pair of long pants in case you eat fancy. If you bring anything that looks like business clothes, go home; this is a VACATION. I am able to pack for a 10-day trip here in one suitcase that is just small enough to fit the carry-on requirements. Bring a folded-up duffel for all the extra stuff you'll buy. For other tips on packing light, I recommend Rick Steves' book 'Europe Through the Back Door' just for the general traveling information.Of course, bring prescriptions in their original containers, but there is a pharmacy nearby for emergencies, and the hotel staff are great about such things. If you have a problem, let them know ASAP.
