A day out
On Monday 8th April 2002 we went to the Kennedy Space Center. Little did we know what treat lay in store for us! We were at the right place and the right time to watch the launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-110)

We arrived at roughly 6 PM and no room was available. We were told to try back in
an hour..still nothing. Hit the park..came back close to 11 PM and a large group
of angry people were being told the same thing. We left and stayed with friends.
One friend stayed and said they finally got a room just after midnight.
We have kids and can't wait that long. No refund of course.. we were told
'you should have waited'.

I'm coming into Orlando next weekend, on a long-distance Greyhound from New Orleans. Then I transfer to an even-longer-distance flight back to UK (via DFW!) That's a long time travelling.
So my question is, is there any shower available either at or near Greyhound bus station, or inside MCO? How about Lynx Central Station or Amtrak.
Or is there a fairly low cost hotel with an hourly rate could take me in for four hours max?
I don't know of any hourly rate hotels by the greyhound terminal, but I checked and there are a couple with regular rates close by.. Best Western and Landmark inn, both with rates under $50. you might call them and ask if they have an hourly rate.
I think the correct term is day rate and not hourly rate - the latter suggests something not exactly what a regular hotel would condone...
You might want to check the SFO airport for a place that offers showers. I can not recall the name of the place but saw it about two weeks ago when I was there. Maybe they are a franchise and have a place in MCO. There is a Hyatt inside the terminal, but I don't know how cheap they will be. We stayed there serveral years ago when we had a early AM flight out and it was really great to be a few feet from the ticket counter.

Perhaps the best word of advice for visiting the Walt Disney World Parks is - GET THERE EARLY. If you arrive at the park about 1/2 before the rides open, you'll be guaranteed an hour or two of short lines. This will be the time of day that you'll get most of your riding done. By 11AM the parks start really filling up with tourists.
After our second full day at SeaWorld shooting travelogue videos, this was our last venue. My camcorder quit 10 minutes into the Luau ceremonial dancing. As the performers enter the stage area through the large audience doors, they sing in a unified Polynesian voice and carry banners. Once onstage a ceremony hosted by the Kahuna and the Polynesian Queen is introduced. The fire dance required spreading a spark netting in front of the stage to prevent those in the first sections from being burned. Both female and male dancers performed, including children, and the style and costume were authentic although not outdoors. The Seafire Restaurant is in the Italian Village overlooking the Shamu Stadium Harbor. The peak season was over, and the weather turns cooler at night, but the outside air was not cold. While an outdoor setting and staging would have been a polynesian charm, both my wife and I enjoyed the family-style service and the cultural presentation.
I [Kevin] thought Zingaro dancing referred to 'Feet of Flames' but that male dancer with flaming torches danced without scorching his bare body. That was the real Zingaro!
light colored clothing, loose fitting shorts, t-shirts and tops, airy shoes like the sandal-style tennis shoes, sun visors, sunglasses, poncho for the summer months (May-September).
Same as above, but maybe a light jacket as well and a pair of jeans and sneakers for the winter months (October- April).
In November through March we can have one day every 6 days or so where it can get really cold at night (in the mid-30s). It just depends if a cold front is forecasted to impact the State. Sunscreen, vinegar is helpful with jellyfish stings. I recommend bringing a digital point and shoot that can fit in your pocket. You really can't lug around tripods and expensive camera gear comfortably around the theme parks. If you plan on doing things other than the theme parks like going to the beach, then maybe the nicer camera gear will be less of a bother.
We have some State Parks nearby Orlando that feature natural warm springs. The water stays 72 degrees year round. The closest spring to the Theme Parks area is Wekiva Springs off of highway 436 near Altamonte Springs and Apopka. There are also the Blue Springs, which is a popular place for manatees to visit, and the Deleon Springs. All of these State parks have websites with the Florida State Parks. Rangers are at all of the parks to answer questions and ensure safety.
Wekiva has excellent swimming and hiking trails.
Blue Springs has swimming in blue clear water, canoe rentals, and a wildlife trail.
Deleon Springs is unique in that it features an old mill on the property. Inside is a restaurant where you can make your own pancakes on grills built-in to the table.
