Sleuth's Dinner Theatre
by picklegirl
I'm thinking of treating my family of 4 to a performance at Sleuth's Mystery Dinner Theatre.
Does anyone have any opinions on this joint? Is it worth what they charge? I'm assuming the shows are all kid friendly?? (kids are ages 10 + 11).
Thanks for yr opinions!
Debbie :-)

We went 2 years ago and enjoyed the evening with 3 of our 4 young adults (not kids anymore as they were 20, 20 and 22 at time). The food was not all that bad. I had the lasagna. There is interaction with the theatre group before the show even starts. There is some adult humor, but nothing that is inappropriate for children. The kids will have fun trying to guess "Who Done It"
Travel Tips for Orlando
I was lucky enough to go to...

I was lucky enough to go to both Disney and Universal theme parks. As a matter of opinion i prefered Universal. Saying that, both are great. Out of the Disney parks i went to, i prefered MGM Studios and Typhoon lagoon. Out of the Universal parks, i prefered Universal studios, Islands of adventure and Seaworld. Whatever your type of holiday, there's something for everyone. It was so clean and tidy. People are very friendly and helpful. Plenty to do. Weather was great.

If it is your first visit to Orlando, you're probably going to want to do the theme parks. Islands of Adventure is my favorite, but that is because I like thrill rides (The Hulk rules). I like EPCOT Center because I like grabbing a beer at the Rose 'n Crown (in the U.K. pavillion) and then touring the park in a laid back way. Don't skip Sea World. They do so much to help manatees and dolphins. Feeding and petting a dolphin is wonderful! I like biking through Winter Park and having lunch on Park Avenue (a European wannabe). There are fun shops to pick through.
To tip or not to tip!!
by Gwynneth
I'll be honest... I don't want to tip. However, I've talked about this custom in length with my cousin Derek and he's explained it well to me a number of times and maybe I'm starting to see why it is done.
The wages here in the states are very low for restaurant staff such as waiters and barstaff... he said they are paid about $2 per hour and you and I both know that is shocking. Tipping actually makes it possible for them to make a living. So if you don't tip they don't earn much at all.
Tipping started when the government decided not to pay bar and wait staff very much because they earned so much through tips so the mandatory wage was dropped to an unbelievable low.
Tipping goes a little like this:
10% for normal service (even a little bad)
15% for good service
20% for great service
My cousin has even said for excellent service - beyond the call of duty - he has paid upto $500 in tips as their waiter went the second, third and fourth mile in making sure everyone was 'wowed' with an incredible tangible - tastable menu selection. The business lunch was a huge success and a very positive outcome was reach for all.
So you can see the answer is... to tip.
Now wear did i put that...

i recommand a small backpack and or a fannypack. also neck card holders! card holders, fanny packs, other carry arounds can be bought in parks, but at a suffiently highier price then let's say wal-mart! pack light sweater for night time chills. comfortable walking shoes ones that tie rather that slip on are best. ponchoes are package small and are light wieght for those surprize flordia showers! cardholders are good for keeping tickets ,passes, room keys, and creditcards so you don't have to carry around a wallet with fear of losing it. carry some change but not too much because some stands don't take credit. i should really talk to disney about that, because that's really anoying in todays day and age! sun screen, or will scream later went you go to take a shower at the hotel! =) spray on sun screen is what i'd reccomend because a light aloe misting in the hot flordia sun feels kind of refreshing when your'e heating up. plus your'e protecting your'e skin at the same time! kill to birds at once. if traveling with children pack age aproate snacks and toiletries even if your kids aren't babies any more having baby wipes on hand is ever a bad idea! sunglasses are a pian to keep up with and hats make your head sweat too much so i suggust sun vitors! miostier dosen't get traped on your head and you won't have to worried about wear to put your glasses went it's time to ride! your'e going to luangh, but i'm serious on this next one, a pack of gas-x and a bottle of I B profien would be good idems to pack. that come form personel experices of discomfort! water prof. camras are great
Bok Sanctuary - see the "real" Florida close up
by taco_mel
About 25 miles south of the Disney area you'll find this "hidden gem" of an activity. The Bok sanctuary features gardens with all sorts of trees, plants, and ferns that you can see up front. You can also take an easy 10 minute walk up to the 205 foot tall "singing tower" to listen to the carillon and enjoy the view from one of the highest points on the Florida peninsula. Or, stop in the "window by the pond" where you can watch the wildlife in a pond through a large window, and hike the 3/4 mile pine ridge trail, which has several labeled points of interest to help identify the plants and landscapes. They have picnic tables, and you can carry in your own food. They also have a cafe that is reasonably priced and has good food, so you can purchase your meal there as well. The cost at the time of this writing is $10 per adult and $3 per child, which you pay at the gate as you enter. Check out their website for directions.
