Hi,
i have been to Orlando quite a few times and have stayed in various places - I avoid I-drive like the plague though - hate really touristy areas!
We have stayed in a few places around Kissimmee and when I visited with work last year we stayed at the Lake Buena Vista Village (next to the factory outlets) and I was considering staing here again. 1 problem - I am staying for 28 nights and even with an ahents discount it's proving to be costly. $2750.00 for a 2 bed apartment and $3335.00 for a 3 bed! I am staying mid december to mid Jan so I am aware that it is over a peak time.
I liked this as an option as it's OK if you don't drive ( I drive, it's others in our pary that don't). If they don't want to rely on us it's only $20.00 in a taxi to Universal and they even do shuttles. And then theres the option to stay on resort and if you fancy a drink theres a separate bar just over the road. Theres also the shops in the outlet.
If we stay in a villa in Kissimmee it can get quite isolated as you have to drive everywhere and obviously you can't drink - if you are in a big group you always have to compromise when sharing a car! It's generally always been to expensive to use taxis to get anywhere in Kissimmee or Davenport.
Can anyone recommend and suites similar to the LBV Village? we require 2 or 3 bed suites.
Consider Celebration Suites at Old Town- http://www.suitesatoldtown.com/ Great all suites hotel offering 1 and 2 bedroom suites with incredible amenities and only 1.5 miles to Disney with free shuttles to all the attractions. Great shopping and restaurants within walking distance. Old Town Entertainment complex right next door. You'll love it. My family does every year!!!

If you're not so excited about watching the parades or fireworks, this is an optimal time to go on rides because so many of the visitors are lined up on Main Street, even staking out spots well in advance.
If you must eat at Disney, try going at slightly off times so you don't have to wait in too long of a line. We ate lunch around 3:00 and there was no wait at all.
Orlando caters to tourists and derives a great deal of its income from the masses of families, honeymooners and others who visit its theme parks and other attractions. Once you enter Orlando, it becomes apparent that the city is attempting to take every cent you have, can withdraw from an ATM machine or borrow from your credit card company. The Disney resort area has this down to a science. Those staying at the theme park resort area are instructed to toss their wallets and anything else of value into a large bin located directly beneath the large overhead sign bearing a gigantic picture of Mickey which marks the entrance to the Walt Disney World property. Any coins that are somehow left over will be retrieved at one of the many tollbooth locations conveniently placed about 1/4 mile apart on any of the Orlando area highways.
The above is clearly in jest. Well, partly anyway. Beware of those tollbooths, as they will bleed you dry .75 cents at a time.
You might want to bring a rain poncho. The rain showers can pop up at anytime, but generally they don't last long. We encountered an unexpected rain shower one day and decided to buy a poncho in the park, (a little on the expensive side) but by the time we stood in line with everyone else buying ponchos the rain pretty much stopped.
But to this day we still have our bright yellow ponchos with Mickey Mouse on the back.
This picture was taken in 1996 during the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Disneyworld.
Orlando is home to the last of the Xanadus -styrofoam "homes of the future" that look like something out of The Smurfs. (Speaking of the Smurfs . . . what was up with there being only one girl Smurf, Smurfette? That was messed up.)
If the landscape of Central Florida were not so hard to look at already, this Xanadu in its current condition would be considered an "eyesore." It's over-run with weeds and garbage, and the walls are a really grimmey grey colour. It's not pretty. However, it is kindof interesting to take in something so rediculous that was once considered plausible. It's a little like how Woody Allen's character must have felt at first when he woke up in Sleeper. Man, that was a good movie.
