Downtown Orlando

by cadiana88

I'll visit Orlando in two weeks due to a bussines trip, and I'd like to visit Orlando downtown on Sunday. I'll be in a hotel close to SeaWorld. The questions is: I've been twice there but I've never visited Downtown. Are there interesting things there to see and visit? or it will be a boring time?
Regards
Carlos

Hi, Downtown Orlando is pretty boring... You might be better off renting a car and driving down towards Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach. Much more stuff to do & see. There's actually a toll road that you can take so the trip only takes about 45 min drive vs 1 1/2 hr on regular roads.
The other place that's near Orlando is Kissimee but that's mainly just a long street with hotels, restaurants and various other tourist attractions.
Have fun!

I live in Orlando and I can honestly say, there is not much in downtown Orlando. The downtown area itself is not very big compared to other big cities' downtown areas. Around Church Street, there's plenty of clubs to go to for the night life, but other than that there is not a whole lot to see or do, especially not during the day. If you have the time, you would be better off taking a drive out to the coast - from Orlando, it's only about an hour to get out to Cocoa Beach and the Space Coast (Titusville, where you can visit NASA), as you can easily do this in one day and I think you will enjoy your time a lot more. Or, if you have a couple extra days to work with, drive about 2.5 hours north on 95 to visit the historic and beautiful St Augustine, and spend a night there. It all depends on how much time you have to work with.

Hope this helps!

And now I see that you're already there and are only there for 3 days - so disregard my answer! LOL

Well I will admit I haven't actually been downtown since the "Santa Stumble" in December, but it was definitely open then. They do close off the street to traffic at night because there's too many people stumbling around the middle of the street, and there has been a lot of construction and remodeling going on in certain areas, but to my knowledge you can still access Church Street and its many bars and clubs.

Yes, Church Street Station has been closed for years, but Church Street itself is still open. I'm confused, I thought we were talking about the street not the station. Sorry!

Travel Tips for Orlando

Save time using the single riders line

by kbl

In the Universal Studios Theme Park, there are some attractions that have a single riders line. The people in this line are used to fill up the gaps, as most parties don't like to be split up.

When we visited the Universal Studios, we decided to take all singke riders lines where possible (being a group of 6). We managed to see ALL attractions in the Studios in one day without any stress and even without having to use the express pass.

maybe not an option if you are here with your family, but with a group of friends, this is the way to go.

Disney World is exactly like...

by Chris45

Disney World is exactly like the commercials say its a magical kingdodom, you can get lost in the fantasy,I loved it feeling like was just lost in the kingdom, its just like the commericials say,it is a magical kingdom,if u havent been there yet,and if i was u,id go as soon as possible

Visit MGM Studios, my second...

by dzni

Visit MGM Studios, my second favorite park at Walt Disney World! This is another place that's a lot of fun! The best rides and shows are probably here. There's the Tower of Terror, which is an elevator that goes up and drops nearly 13 stories before stopping you. Then there are shows like this Indiana Jones one pictured here. This place really is a ton of fun, and I would be as likely to go here as to Epcot, I think. Also, food is very good here too! :)

Packing List

by macdnangel

Think comfort. Florida can be hot, hot, hot in the summer months. The humidity is a killer! Think October thru March for travel plans. Don't forget your shorts, tanks, sandals and sneakers for those long days at the theme parks, that's for the summer of course. If you do decide to come in the December-January time, do pack some heavier clothing. Think layers! Days will be somewhat warm, but when the sun goes down it can get quite nippy. Do not forget your sunscreen. Those rays can be harsh! Buy your film at home. Go to some wholesale club and buy a ton, you are going to need it. If you wait until you get here and buy you WILL be paying big tourist prices. If you have to buy here, try to find a local supermarket, Wal-Mart, etc.
