how many days should i buy a ticket for Disney

by mitzygolf

We are planing a trip to Florida for the first time in May 2010. The problem is i have no idea how long we will need in the different parks. i dont want to buy 14 day tickets for Disney and find i have only used them for six. We also want to visit Universal studios, space centre, discovery cove and other atractions. i will be going with my wife, daughter, son-in-law and two grandaughters.

Just from past experience many years ago when my kids were ages 3 to 9. We spent a day at each of the Disney Parks (3) a couple of days at the Disney Water Parks (2) and then several days around Orlando (2) before they had Universal. Since then we've spent another week down there but only did a couple of days at Disney now including the Animal Kingdom.

So you have 4 Disney Parks plus the water parks. If you are staying on site I would give yourself a 6 to 7 day ticket for everything at Disney. Just don't push the granddaughters too hard especially if they are under the age of 8. They will need down time.

There is a special at the moment - 5 days for the price of 3. That would be enough for me: we did one day on, one day off. Universal is separate from Disney - Disney have MGM don't they?

Space centre is quite a drive, but worth it.

I'm sure you'll all have a great time.

We visited Disney May 2-6 this year with a 9 yr old. Presonally we found the parkhopper to be a waste of money. One day in each park is quite enough. The longest lines were for character pictures. We stayed at Animal kingdom for 4 nights and it was very nice but expensive. The Disney hotels are huge and there is too much walking to get from one place to another. We would not stay again. Disney transportion is great but some of the hotels outside disney have free transportation to and from the disney parks if you do not want to drive and they are very nice and reasonably priced. We also have stayed at Holiday Inn express in Lake Vista (very close to everything) and it was great plus breakfast! I have many suggestions on restaurants in that area and inside the disney parks too if you are interested.

Travel Tips for Orlando

WALT DISNEY WORLD

by Helga67

Walt Disney World is a huge complex of assorted diversions, including several theme parks, along with resort hotels, shopping and entertainment complexes, golf courses, and water parks. So do plenty of research before you go, and make a plan. Then relax - and have a wonderful time.

Have a look at my travelogues for more pics of the different theme parks.

I don't have to tell you this....

I don't have to tell you this. Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and, MGM, and the water parks are not to be missed. I think everyone will love Fantasia, which is performed each night at MGM. If you're a thrill-seeker, you'll love Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain,Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. If you're into culture, EPCOT's World exhibits will delight you. My two best memories are:
1) picking oranges from the orange trees at Westgate with my son, Jonathan. He was seven at the time. we took them back to the condo and used the juicer they provided to make juice each morning.
2) riding with the engineer at the front of the monorail.

WINTER PARK ART FESTIVAL

by shohman

Eevry March, Winter Park hosts one of the best art festivals in the Country. Park ave is closed down to make room for the artists. All the shops have sales as well. It is a great time and you will be thankful to be exposed to so many talented people.

Do NOT forget the sunscreen!!!

by Florida999

It is very hot here during the summer, and usually during the fall also. However, most of the restaurants, stores, and other indoor places have their airconditioning on like 50 degrees F, and I never go out without bringing a jacket, to wear indoors during the summer. The humidity is worst in August, so be prepared for sweating a lot outside. On most days during the summer there will be a thunderstorm in the afternoon, so be prepared for large amounts of rain in a short period. You MUST wear sunscreen outside ( SPF 30 and up) , if you are out more than 5 minutes most of the year. Everyone, regardless of how well you tan. If you stay outside all day without sunscreen, you will most likely end up in the emergency room with a severe sunburn. Don't camp in a tent in July or August: too hot , too many thunderstorms and bugs. If you camp, do it in March or April, maybe May.

winter park

by doug48

located about 20 miles northeast of the theme park area of orlando is the charming town of winter park. park ave. in central winter park is lined with upscale shops, restaurants, bars, and outdoor cafes. winter park has several excellent art museums and is home to the famous winter park sidewalk art festival each march. a fun, safe and interesting place to visit when in the orlando area. see my winter park page and tips for an overview of the this beautiful town.

from downtown orlando take I-4 east to fairbanks ave. take fairbanks ave. east about 2 miles to park ave. most of the attractions of winter park are walking distance of park ave.
