BREAKERS , PALM BEACH
In Palm Beach the place to stay is The Breakers, a vast five star palace with twin towers, Venetian arches, Persian carpets and vast chandeliers.

the breakers is a historic hotel located on south county road in the heart of palm beach. this luxury resort is one of the best hotels in the state of florida. this historic hotel was originally built by railroad tycoon henry flagler in 1896. during the 1920's florida land boom it was remodeled in 1926. the breaker's italian renaissance revival architecture was inspired by the villa medici in rome. this five star hotel offers seven restaurants, three bars, a golf course, five pools, and a beautiful stretch of atlantic beach. if you are looking for luxury accommotions in palm beach you will not be disapointed. winter prices range from $500 to $1600 per night but are much lower in the off season.
Another magnificent ballroom with european decoration.
A beautiful ballroom decorated with frescoes depict explorers of the New World; with the paintings of Columbus and Queen Isabella of Spain above the fireplace.
I just visited Palm Beach to see this hotel, and was really impressed with the building. Built in 1896 by Henry Morrison and partner John D. Rockefeller and inspired in a Medicci Villa. Maybe was the first resort in the area, actually renovated it also has two 18-hole golf courses, but the main feature of the building are the great frescoes, vaulted ceilings, tapestries, paintings, and the magnificent ballrooms.
Well....this is a 5-star hotel so my expectations were high. For the most part it did live up to the standard. The grounds were impeccable, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the scenery was awesome!
I was visiting during the low season (late September) so many of the restaurants, etc. were still closed. Those that were open were excessively priced...even for a 5-star resort!
While the rooms were very nice (i.e. plush, clean, etc.), the bed coverings did not satisfy my tastes. for a $300+ / night room there should have been very new, plush sheets, comforters, etc. Instead it was more like sleeping on a bed you would find in a 10-year old Holiday Inn.
Otherwise, I would highly recommend a stay.
Unique Quality: I've never been SO close to the ocean! The views of the ocean and the resort grounds in general, were spectactular! Also the decor inside was truly awe inspiring - especially the ceiling decorations.
2 weeks!
Unique Quality: bar w/ fish swimming in it
We were here right after The Donald's wedding, thank goodness, as the hotel had been full of all of his guests before we arrived. It is "the" place to stay in Palm Beach, though there are other very nice hotels in the area. This one is gorgeous though... The rooms are lavishly appointed; there are excellent bathrooms; the staff is perfectly attentive. The views on the ocean front rooms are beautiful. They have great in-house toiletries as well, if you're into that sort of thing.
Unique Quality: DO NOT MISS Sunday Brunch in the Circle Restaurant. The food is lavish and delicious, and the atmosphere is beautiful. Drinks weren't bad either!
Also, pop in for a drink at the Seafood Bar; it overlooks the water, and the bar is an aquarium full of pretty little tropical fish.
I went to a business meeting at The Breakers a few years ago and absolutely loved it there. It's kinda sad when you don't want to leave a business trip to go home but it's just how I felt staying there. This is a beautiful hotel where you're treated like a celebrity and hey, a girl can get used to that!
Unique Quality: Walk through the doors and you've left Florida and entered a European palace!
You can find accommodation in Palm Beach county starting from around $20 / night. There are hundreds of motels around the Federal Highway. You can find these for example in the Lake Worth and Lantana area. If money is no object the Breakers hotel is the obvious choice. The Breakers is a legendary hotel that was founded by Henry Flagler himself. The Breakers hotel is closely associated with the history of Palm Beach in the same way as for example the Raffles hotel in Singapore is associated with the history of Singapore. The Breakers used to be the gathering place for the social elite of Palm Beach. This is still the case today too. This is the place for a 'Pretty Woman' to try to find her Palm Beach millionaire. The high season for the different charity events at the Breakers runs through autumn until Christmas. The Breakers has specials starting from $199 / night.

The Beach. The Breakers hotel in the background
My fiancee and I are trying to plan our honeymoon, and neither of us have done much traveling. We'll be getting married on May 17th in Vienna, Virginia (not far from D.C.). Do you have any suggestions for a solid east coast beach/city that we should look into? We want something that isn't too touristy (i.e. Myrtle Beach) and offers more sand and sun.
Thank you for your help!
I would suggest St. Simon's Island, Georgia and specifically the King and Prince hotel. It is a beautiful old property which has been completely modernized and sits right on a beautiful beach. There are lots of really good restaurants nearby on the island.
I forgot to include the link to their homepage. It is: http://www.kingandprince.com/
The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida (a 5 star resort). BEAUTIFUL! Have you seen the movie Heartbreakers, that was the hotel they stayed at. It is not touristy at all, the ocean is Carribean blue, you are surrounded by mansions, so the beach is virtually empty.

If that is too expensive, there are many other great options...
