Beautiful place to stay
We stayed at this resort back in 2003 and are returning in 2005. This is a beautiful resort to stay at. They have a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The rooms were extremely nice and well kept. You won't be disappointed.
Ok, but not all good....
We just got back from the PBS and must say that overall is was just OK. The beach was absolutely the best feature of the resort, and we enjoyed the walkway to the beach. The water was crystal clear, the beach clean, and we all enjoyed the swimming, shell hunting, and night walks on the beach.
On the otherhand, the resort lobby area smelled musty. A real turn-off for a first impression. We ignored the sales pitches that came daily - either phone calls or notes under the door. We didn't expect calls on our trip so we pretty much just ignored the phone and messages. The BIRDS.... they have caged exotic birds around the pool area that are pretty much ignored, and mostly just make lot of noise. The sun comes up, and they are letting you know it.
We were given a room on the inside corner of the building - room 238 -- (I had read getting an "inside" room was best.) But the balcony was on a rooftop and the rooftop was dirty - cigarette butts, cups, other trash -- great addition to the view..... we didn't spend much time out there. We would have been better off having a room on the city side and have a view of the harbor and city lights at night.
The kitchen was an efficiency/studio type. It had everything we needed to make small meals. No BBQ grills available.
The elevators were horrible. SLOW.... better to take the stairs. There is one staircase that leads outside; the others have emergency crash bars.
The pool area was adequate. Towels were provided and we took them to the beach. But the pool decking seemed pretty dirty. The hot tub - too hot to get in - even at night (watch out for little ones in there!).
We own a timeshare in Hawaii, and it was a totally different experience. This resort needs to be reevaluated for its Gold Crown status. Although we enjoyed our trip, we kept comparing it to what we expected and it just didn't meet the expectations.
Probably wouldn't stay there again.
The Resort is Outstanding!
There is nothing sweeter than seeing the Pink Palace from the top of the bridge going over to Singer Island. When you pull up to the resort you feel like royalty with all the extra attention you get from the staff. These people truly love their job! The resort is right on the beach and just blocks (walking distance) from the Intercoatal waterways where you can have a nice dinner or feed the fish, a favorite past time of ours (and I'm not 80) or take the Water Taxi over to Peanut Island. Each morning we wake early to go comb the beach for seashells always amazed at our finds. You can sign up for all kinds of fun activities ie snorkeling bus tours all at the resort. There is a day camp for your kids too. So you can go do something without them. I take my 8 yr old with me all the time and he always meets other kids from around the world. He always asked to make sure we are going back again. I have been to many other resort in Ft Lauderdale area and NONE compare to PALM BEACH RESORT!.
OK Rooms - Terrible Location
A friend and I stayed for one night in late July and will not be returning. The hotel itself is just OK - certainly not worthy of the 4-star rating we believed it to be (honestly, as a seasoned traveler, I would hesitate to give it 3 stars!). The rooms are fine - styled like any timeshare, with a kitchenette, small sitting area, spacious bathroom and bedroom. However, we found the quality of the room to be irrelevant due to the horrible location of the resort. From the freeway, one must drive through one of the most blighted, horrible neighborhoods I have ever seen - absolute ghetto. We did not feel safe in this area at all! This fact alone - the awful location - rendered any redeeming qualities the resort may have had pointless. If you are wishing to stay in this part of Florida, I would strongly recommend that you book something farther down - perhaps in West Palm - even if the price is a little more. Your safety is worth it!
Expected Gold Crown to be less than Breakers, more than Marriott
The instructions on our 'exchange' confirmation didn't have updated street info so we drove around in that ghetto mentioned above until nearly midnight. Every time we called the resort we were told another way to get there. There were police at the resort 24/7, unsure if we were supposed to feel safe or if there was something going on we didn't know about.
The furniture in our 4th floor room was very worn. The mattress was thin and worn. The bathroom is huge and the little kitchen adequate. We made sandwiches for the beach and did some breakfast things, we didn't try to cook on the two burners. We had a parking lot view but didn't spend much time in the room. We walked in from the beach one day and heard a crash. A fake wood table w/lamp smashed on the floor. We had maintenance there 3 x for doors, etc.
There was one washer/dryer on the floor and it was always in use. With double wings, wish they would separate families and couples. Kids were really noisy, the rooms were too small for families, and the walls were thin.
The beach was great. We rented the chairs/umbrellas most of the time for the convenience. The beach staff was ok but ??? something about them. The ocean was the best part of the resort. Warm blue/green water.
We did a lot of sightseeing and there is a lot to do if you have a car with you. We visited other nearby resorts and mom/pop rentals and those were nice. To get away from the lumpy bed and noise we went to Key West a couple of days. We enjoyed visiting Roger Dean Stadium in nearby Jupiter.
The time share stuff was annoying but we deleted the messages on our phone without listening. If they wanted to sell us a time share they needed a better product. If our room was an example, ... The sales people doing the tours were mostly pitiful and some were smoking cigs as they brought people to the beach. This was our first exchange and we had been told by our vacation club that gold crown was a big deal. Forgetting our points that we used for the week, the exchange fee was abour $140 and the place was worth that for the week. I had expected the resort to be somewhere in quality between the Breakers and the Marriott Vacation Club Resorts. In our opinion, it wasn't even in the ballpark -- I was shocked that RCI and our Club would think this was Gold Crown Status. For example, parts of the concrete on the pool were reinforced with steel rods that looked like dinner knives stuck under the ledge. The big 'garden' restaurant and behind lobby parlor area and the ballrooms were all 'boiler rooms' for the timeshare.
Luckily we took our own soap because we got a sponge, some coffee filters, and a couple tiny packets of dishwasher detergent. And two rolls of bathroom tissue. Towels were plentiful. Only saw one cockroach and it was a giant. No more trips to the bathroom without a light!
Read this before you go!
Ok well I have to say most of the reviews are not wrong they just care about alot of things that I am not thinking about on vacation. The rooms are just like the photos on the site. If you like what you see you will like the rooms. This resort is right between the nice side of the tracks and the not so nice side of the tracks. So we drove the five miles to the nicer store for food and supplies. We traveled with a five year old and I never felt unsafe at the resort. The resort was doing some repairs to the outside and inside while we were there but they let us know right when we got there and told us to let them know if there was any problem during our stay. No problems. The one time I went to the W/D to do a load they were not being used and I had no problems. Washer - $1.25. Dryer $1.00. You will have to go down to the Gift Shop for soap if you did not bring any with you. Soap - $1.75. The beach was wonderful. We took some pop ups with us down to the beach so we would not have to rent the chairs at the beach. Oh the band...yes there was a guy out at the pool from about 10am - 4pm. I dont think he was too loud. Yes, this is a timeshare. They asked us a total of 3 times if we would like to listen to their pitch. Once in person, once by a letter slipped under the door, and one message on the phone. I would go back to this resort.
