panama city florida
panama city is the county seat of bay county florida. this historic northwest florida town was developed in the early 20th century by robert lee McKenzie. this historic and peaceful town should not be confused with it's more famous and rowdy neighbor panama city beach. panama city did not gain any significant population until the construction of the dothan-panama city railroad in 1906. it was said that the railroad was atlanta's connection to the panama canal which is how the town got it's name. tyndall air force base is just east of panama city and contributes much to the area economy. panama city has a very nice historic district and is worth a stop for those interested in architecture and florida history.
